    a Piece of History along the Rail!

    The Aiken Visitors Center and Train Museum is located inthe Aiken Railroad Depot. The Visitors Center staff,located downstairs, can assist you with information anddirections to the many unique sites of Aiken. Alsoavailable for pick up are brochures, maps, eventinformation and more. We encourage you to make thisyour first stop upon arriving in Aiken.

    The Train Museum, located on the second floor of theVisitors Center, has nine dioramas that depict the townsalong the original South Carolina Canal and RailroadCompany right of way. The railroad became the firstdesigned steam powered commercial railroad in theUnited States and the longest railroad in the world. Thedioramas are complimented by interactive displays!

    The Train Museum also features a gift shop where uniquesouvenirs and gifts can be purchased.

    No trip to Aiken is complete without taking the timeto stroll the paths of Hopelands Gardens.Bequeathed to the City of Aiken by Mrs. C. OliverIselin, this 14 acre estate was reopened as a public

    garden in 1970. The 10 acre estate home of thelate Dorothy Knox Goodyear Rogers, known as RyePatch, is adjacent (also operated by the City ofAiken) and is home to a beautiful rose garden andconnecting pathways. Located at Whiskey Roadand Dupree Place, the gardens are free to thepublic from 10 a.m. until sunset.

    Aiken is home to a thriving equine sportsindustry. The Thoroughbred Racing Hall of

    Fame & Museum is just the place to visit ifyoure interested in learning more aboutthe sport. Located within HopelandsGardens, the museum pays tribute tohorses trained in Aiken who have gone onto become National Champions byinducting them into the Hall of Fame.Visitors may also view trophies andphotographs from the careers of some of
