DIRECTIONS: From the south-east GTA:

Take HWY #404 north to Vivian Road/Mulock Drive. EXIT 49.

Turn left (west) on Mulock Dr. and go approx. 5.0 km to Columbus Way (1st intersection west of Yonge Street).

Turn left (south) on Columbus Way. School will appear on your left on the north-east corner of Columbus Way &

Sawmill Valley Drive.

From the south-west GTA:

BRANCH IDEA SHARING Step right up and join other Guiders from your

branch of Guiding. Voice your ideas and concerns.

Ask those questions you always wanted to ask. Our

best resource is each other so take a few moments

to share with fellow Guiders at our sharing tables

(find your appropriate coloured table cloth)!

Each participant may bring in resource publications they no longer require. Publications can include

program books, music books, instant meetings, craft books, camping books, activity books and

magazines related to Guiding. We also welcome ceremonial items i.e. Toadstools, Flags, Flag stands.

All donations are to be dropped off at the Resource Rescue Re-Store by 8:45 a.m. Ask for directions

when you check-in at registration.

The Re-Store will be open for your browsing and shopping pleasure during the breaks or while

supplies last.

Shopping bags will be provided. Each bag is $5. Individual items will be $1 each.

This session will provide you with the modules to earn your Outdoor Activity Leadership green pin and

supply you with the resources you need to have a great camp! You will be encouraged to include the

girls in the decision making process for camp and shown how to do that in a fun way! We will look at

camp planning, food and nutrition (menu), planning duties, learn and play outdoor and rainy day

activities, plan a campfire, choose a theme and so much more.... Handouts will be emailed after the

training.

AB1 HAND SPINNING CLASS: INTRODUCTION TO SPINNING

YARN

Have you ever picked up a wonderful skein of yarn and wondered “How do they do it!”? Then this

beginner class is the class for you! This workshop is an introduction to hand spinning using a wooden

drop spindle, and will cover drop spindle basics and history, methods and techniques of spinning,

learning about different types of fibers and their preparation, and the steps in the process of spinning

and setting your handcrafted yarn. The course fee includes all materials needed for the class including a

student drop spindle to keep, material kit and fibre for use in class and to take home for practice later.

A crest is also included in the course costs! Sign up to learn the basics or refresh your knowledge, and

start on the path to becoming a yarn-creating fibre artist – spaces are limited so register early!

AB3 FLAVOURED COFFEES & HOT CHOCOLATE Jan Gibson

We have all heard of flavoured teas—but why not shoot for the moon and try something different?

Join us to make, sample, and take home our own flavoured coffees and hot chocolates!! Share them

with your unit and have the girls make them as gifts and thank yous to parents and guests instead of

the traditional crafts.

AB4 IRIS FOLDING & QUILLING Maureen Robertson & Sue Walintschek

Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped

and glued together to create decorative designs. Iris Folding is a paper craft technique that involves

folding strips of coloured paper in such a way to form a design. The center of the design forms an iris, a

shape reminiscent of the iris diaphragm of a camera lens.

Calling all Drama Queens and Drama Queens-in-training! The Dramatic Arts are a super easy way to

incorporate fun and creativity into teaching or reinforcing a skill (without having to bring in a lot of

props or do a lot of prep). Through role-playing, puppetry, drama games, mime, improvisation and

storytelling we will explore how to incorporate drama into your meetings and tie it to your program.

CD5 THE SKY'S THE LIMIT WITH MONOPRINTING

TECHNIQUES!

Play with different printmaking techniques using printing ink, acrylics, photo transfers and found

materials to create one of a kind images. We'll make cards but bring a plain light-coloured t-shirt to try

Want to get your girls interested in nature but don't know where to start? Birding provides a wonderful

opportunity to connect with the natural world, and to become more aware of the wildlife found in our

own backyards. Come learn some birding basics, as well as a variety of bird-themed games, crafts and

activities to try out with your girls.

Note: if weather permits, we will spend some time outdoors looking for birds, so come dressed for the

weather. Please bring a pair of binoculars if you have them.

Our Wild Child Hike includes an opening circle, some hiking, some imaginative play, plant or animal

identification, group game, snack and a closing circle where we can review the hikes learning and share

thank-yous with the group. A Wild Child hike is designed for kids who want to do deeper scientific

inquiry, or journaling, and/or creative projects using natural materials.

We will be going outside so please dress appropriately for weather.

So what else can you do with that GPS besides hunt for geocaches? In this session you'll learn how to

set up and play a couple of fun GPS-based games that your girls will love. Those who participated in the

morning "Geocaching Part 1" session, as well as Guiders with some previous geocaching experience, will

benefit from this session.

C2 FIRST TIME IN TENTS Candis Ellis

Prepare your girls for an overnight in tents, tips and tricks for the actual weekend, along with getting

meeting ideas for before the weekend.

The only scary thing about sleeping in a tent should be the next day hair-dos.

Put your observation skills to work and learn to tell direction and time by signs from nature. Learn to

not have to rely on electronic gadgets or the compass you forgot to pack. The session includes an intro

to interpreting map contours. Resources to use with your unit will be provided.
