Shiva-yoga Technique of Opening the Third Eye

Shiva-yoga is a technique of opening the third eye . The third eye is an enigmatic organ having a universal

mythological history. It is the middle eye of Shiva; it is the eye of Horas of Egyptian tradition it is the horn of the

unicorn. The third eye is an organ apparently dormant !ut innately acquired !y man"ind #hose a#a"ening is the !irth

right of every individual. It is an organ of inner vision #hich em!races eternity #hile the t#o physical eyes loo" !efore

seeing neither the past nor the future.

$hysiology has recogni%ed the importance of the mid!rain and of endocrine glands; it has therefore set a value upon

the pituitary and pineal glands. & special relationship unites the pituitary gland #ith the roof of the third ventricle on

the one hand and on the other #ith the #hole system of ductless glands throughout the !ody. The third ventricle is a

narro# slit lying near the !ase of cere!ral hemispheres and separating the t#o thalamia from each other. &t the

posterior end of this slit a small nodule of grey matter pro'ects !ac"#ards and overhangs corpora quadrigemina ofthe mid !rain. This is the pineal gland. It represents all that remains of the third eye #hich used to adorn the forehead

of some of the li%ard ancestors in far off times. This type of li%ard is found only in (e# )ealand and it dates !ac" to

the end of palaeo%oic period in the $ermian epoch. One of the li%ard*s feature is that it has a quite #ell developed

third eye !ehind and !et#een the usual t#o. This is "no#n as the pineal eye and is represented in man as the pineal

gland.
