It was the beginning of the Eastern Goldfields and was to spark the greatest gold rush in Australian history. The Old Camp is truly the Mother of the Eastern Goldfields’ and has celebrated its birth right for most of its history. By the end of WW1, the population of Coolgardie had dwindled down to about 350 residents. It is not known at what point in time the celebration became known as ‘The Coolgardie Railway Picnic’. We do know that the Railways would put on a free train from Kalgoorlie to Coolgardie to celebrate Coolgardie’s birthday. In line with Goldfields history, Coolgardie Day has had its rise and falls. The 1970’s under a very pro-active Council, saw the day rise to old heights with the introduction of camel racing down the main street. Like all events in all towns, it was only as good as the economic environment and the people who give their time to create these special days. Time was again to see the Day shrink, but not to disappear. In 1992, and again with the support of a very active Council, the Shire of Coolgardie brought together a good collection of its business and professional people with the intent to build the day to a major attraction on the Goldfields. I was a foundation member of that committee and at this point it became an incorporated body. Today, Coolgardie Day enjoys the respect it is entitled to. It is the oldest event in the Eastern Goldfields. It is firmly etched on the West Australian Calender of Events and still brings people back to the Goldfields who have soft memories of their past. Crowds of 10,000 plus have made Coolgardie Day a nice place to be. Today, Australians care about our history, and why not? We have earned it. And so the significance of the Day will rest with today and tomorrow. The above information was kindly provided by Victor Churchill Dale, Past President. The Coolgardie Day Committee is excited about the 125 year celebration and this year we have the returning of the “Cabaret” on Saturday night 16/09/2017 – tickets can be purchased directly from the Goldfields Arts Centre or purchased from their on-line website. And in case you are wondering what the day will bring this year besides the good weather, positive fun, and many visitors into the town!! - Well lets just say that there will be good music, street performers, and activities (maybe noisy) that are very important to the history in the Goldfields. As well as lots of free fun for the family in the park, rides to make you laugh and scream, proud stall holders, delicious food, the strongest men in the west, a street parade, farm animals, bouncy fun and more!! “Its all about the family” and there will be a mixture of both free and affordable fun for all ages. Come and spend the day with us and we look forward to seeing you.

Coolgardie Day is the celebration of Arthur Bayley registering his claim for himself and William Ford, known thereafter as ‘Bayley’s Reward’, on the 17th of September 1892 at Southern Cross.

On Sunday 30th July the Kambalda community showed us once again why it's one of the very best around. Myself (Sarah Neal) and Emily Piggott held a High Tea to raise money for a fellow mum, friend, and community member, Kirra Bird who sadly is fighting cancer for the second time. We wanted to help her out by relieving any financial strains this time may bring. The event was held at the Kambalda Hotel located on Bluebush Rd, who kindly let us use the room, organised us with a staff member to give a lending hand, all free of charge. Champagne was also donated by the Hotel for guests to enjoy. Food was provided by friends, acquaintances and everybody who walked in the door. In between donations flowing in the Tea Party came together like nothing we ever imagined. People who came were generous buying plenty of raffle tickets. All our prizes were donated from local businesses. Everyone ate, talked, socialised and enjoyed themselves all in honour of their fellow community member. Thanks to all involved but special thanks to: Chakra Tree, Hippocrocaduck, Kambalda Hair, Angel Hearts Nail and Beauty, Charlton Design Graphic Prints, Free Spirited Essential Oils, Super Sarah & friends, Kambalda Hotel, Rustic Putter, Artisan Savon, Lena Dole, Allison Dowey, Tanya's Cakes Galore, SB Naturopathy and Hufflepuff Honey Farm.

I once saw a show on TV called “Doomsday Preppers”. It is a show about how some people see great catastrophe ahead and what they do to prepare for it. The people are labelled “doomsdayers” because they believe doomsday is imminent or not far away. Whether it be in case of a future nuclear explosion or world war people build bunkers, store food and seek survival methods for if or when the event takes place. The nation of Israel was once taken into captivity for 70 years by the Babylonians. At the time Daniel was a young Jewish man who was given a leading role in the government. A time came when the extremely powerful King Nebuchadnezzar was troubled by a recurring dream. King Nebuchadnezzar was quite a brutal man and ordered that any magician, soothsayer or fortune teller who could not tell him both his dream and its interpretation should be put to death. How amazed the King was when Daniel the young Jewish man was not only able to interpret the dream but tell the King what the dream was. Daniel told of a large statue made up of different levels. Each level of the statue represented future kingdoms that were to come. The Babylonian kingdom was to be replaced by the Persians and then the Greeks and then the Romans. Historians have no natural explanation for how a man could so accurately predict the coming kingdoms hundreds of years before they happened. In the King’s dream, there was also a kingdom mentioned that would have no end (Daniel 2:44). Daniel was referring to the kingdom that the Lord Jesus Christ would bring to earth. That kingdom began with the arrival of Jesus Christ, however most did not recognise it.

Though most people aren't as extreme as the ‘doomsday preppers’ most try to insure themselves against some future events. Sadly, some of the preppers will die of cancer or heart attacks before they get to try out their bunkers. Scripture makes it clear that every man-made kingdom will eventually collapse or be destroyed. The kingdom mentioned in Daniel chapter two is an everlasting kingdom that will never end. You are invited to be part of this kingdom. It appears to me that by far the safest bunker is Jesus Christ Himself.
