We would like to welcome you to join us at our annual production sale, held at our Clear Creek Ranch on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. MST.

Our program began with two heifers 28 yrs. ago from a family that started rais-ing black angus cattle in the 1940’s. Our kids, Austin & Bree are the 4th genera-tion and we look forward to them carrying on our family’s tradition. We are very excited about our offering this year. The 65 bulls represent the top of 130 bulls from one contemporary group weaned last October. Developing these bulls slowly and having them around here longer gives us the ability to sort on them a few more times to help insure you are buying quality bulls with stay ability and longev-ity. They are a muscled up, super sound set of bulls that have not had any creep feed or hoof trimming. We have a responsibility to you, our customer, that we take very seriously—to provide sound, functional, maternal, adaptable and effi cient cattle. The sires that we seek out and use in our program excel in every aspect of the breed. We like to call it performance from the range to the rail. We are also offering 30 bred heifers that come right out of the heart of our registered and com-mercial cowherds. Many of them will be carrying A.I. calves by Connealy Packer 547 and Sitz Icon 1054. The others will be carrying natural calves by some of our very top bulls selling in the sale—Lot 1, 8, & 21. The heifers will be grouped with calf age & sex.

We have got on board this year with Pfi zer and tested nearly 65% of the bulls for 50K DNA. This is leading edge technology in the cattle industry right now with the potential to progress the breed forward at an amazing pace. 50K data results are fairly straightforward and easy to read. If you have any questions on 50K or anything else, feel free to call. Data will be available sale day.

Craig Benzing came on board as a friend, partner and employee with us a couple years ago. A big thanks goes out to him for being a huge part of our opera-tion. Craig will again be offering 2 broke ranch geldings in this year’s sale. These are defi nitely the using kind as Craig is almost always riding one of these horses for our ranch work.

We have been sending our steer calves to Poky Feeders from Scott City, Kan-sas for several years. Joe Morgan and Guy Ficeto from Poky plan on being here sale day to visit with anyone. Poky is absolutely one of the very top feed yards in the country and have been exceptional to work with.

Bull Development at Shipwheel Cattle Co.The bulls were weaned on our hay meadows at Lloyd across a hot wire from their moms on November 3, 2011. They were left on the hay meadows and fed 5lbs. of head start pellets on the ground for 2 weeks. The fi rst part of December, we hauled the bulls to our Clear Creek Place and put them in a 40 acre fi eld with hills to climb. January 15th we brought the bulls into our grow yard and they remained there until May 25th. From December to May, we fed the bulls chopped hay and 6lbs. of CHS’s Bull Challenger pellet, targeting a 2-2.5lbs. gain. The bulls ended up at a 2.7lb. gain and .11” of back fat. May 26th we turned them out to grass where they remained for the summer. On September 15, we brought the bulls back to the grow yard and fed them hay barley/oat silage, chopped hay, peas and the bull challenger pellet. We are very confi dent in our development and handling of the bulls. Our goal is to fi nd the genetics that rise to the top with minimal inputs—not maximum. The bulls are also horse broke, dog broke and hot wire broke. Klint personally feeds and walks through the bulls nearly every day and trusts our kids to walk through as well.

These heifers come right out of the heart of our registered and com-mercial cow herds. Many are 1/2 sisters to bulls selling in this sale sired by some of the industry’s top A.I. sires as well as our top Ship-wheel owned sires. We do not develop the heifers in the feedlot. They winter on grass pastures and hay meadows with a lot of room to travel, hay and a protein supplement. They should weigh approxi-mately 975lbs. by sale day and have had PregGaurd Gold FP10, Scourgaurd 4KC and Dectomax pour-on.Lots 1-30 are carrying A.I. calves by Connealy Packer 547 and Sitz Icon 1054 due to calve Feb 26, 2013.
