Something I’ve learned from God is that

He is a jealous God. It says in the Bible,

that we shouldn’t put anything in God’s

place. This means that we shouldn’t, for

example, love any person, place, or thing

more than God. I’m not saying that God

should be the only thing on our minds, but

He should be the first. That’s the first

thing I’ve learned from God.

The second thing I’ve learned from God is

that His love is unconditional. No matter

what we do, God will always love us.

God’s love is not like human love. Human

love is temporary. If you mess up, that love

is gone. Even when we think that we’re

not loved, God still loves us. That’s the

second thing I’ve learned from God.

The third thing I’ve learned from God is

that He’ll never leave us, nor forsake us.

No matter how alone you feel, God is

always there. Other people will leave us

when we’re not in a good place in life. But

God says that no matter what you’re going

through, He’ll be there for you. That’s the

third thing I’ve learned from God.

“A Time I Needed A Friend”

Marshawna Antery

When I needed a friend, it was my sister

Kalana who was my friend ever in my life.

I can tell her everything and anything. She

always knows what to say or do to make

me feel better. We are always together, no

matter what happens. So, yeah, I really

already had a friend when she came into

this world.

“What God Expects From Me”

Alex Binion

What God expects from me is to

praise and worship Him. When I

praise Him, he blesses me. I know

what God expects from me and I

shall do it. God also expects me to

have the HOLY GHOST, to be

baptized, and to obey my parents.

“Friends” – Channing Green

When you think about friends and what you truly

call a friend, you think about how you first met. You meet for the first time and you want to make

a good impression. So, you start thinking about things like “does my hair look okay, am I talking too much.” These are just some of the many

things you think about when you first meet someone new.

“Knowledge” – Kalana Burnett

When you receive the knowledge of God, you use it

to help yourself and others. Others include you

parents, teachers, students, friends, or your

neighbors, or maybe strangers.

Because you know and understand the Word of the

Lord, then you can truly lead and direct people to

going to church. Also helping them to believe in

God for themselves and not for anyone else.

When you have then directed someone to know the

knowledge of God, God will acknowledge you

because you are doing the works of the Lord. You

will then be blessed.

And if times get rough and the person that is trying

to live a Holy life is tempted to do wrong, persuade

them to do the right thing.

Therefore, this is what I believe you should do when

you receive the righteous knowledge of God.

“When I Needed A Friend” – Keya Burnett

The time I needed a friend, there was no one around and sadly there was no one that could have been found. I sat by myself and sadly and slowly ate my lunch. But suddenly five people confronted me in a big bunch. They asked in a soft tone, “Are you new? What’s your name? Are you a transfer student who flew in on a plane?” For some reason, they seemed to have a lot of interest in me. I said, “This is amazing and it must be a dream.” I finally found people who had interest in me in the end. This was the time I finally found someone when I needed a FRIEND.

“Bullying” – Kristy Knox

If I was getting bullied at school, I would tell the teacher because getting bullied can hurt . I would try to stop it so it won’t get worst. Then, I would tell my mother what happened. Finally, I will tell the bully that he is hurting others by bullying them.

“Decision Making” – Raylon Bivins

When I was fifteen, I made the decision to move

in with my grandparents in Indiana. This was a

huge change because I wasn’t used to living in a

house with a dad and mom, and I wasn’t used to

having to report to two people. This changed my

outlook on life and showed me how respect was

really supposed to be shown and given. My

grandparents taught me valuable lessons and

showed me how hard work pays off. Then when

I moved back home I had a different outlook on

life and had a better understanding on respect and

how to give it to my mom.

“Good Deeds” – Laurence Beasley

One of the good deeds I did is that I got “Star of

the Week” for doing good and then I was so

happy. My mom said I was very responsible by

listening to what her directions were to have to

get on the city bus by myself. I also loved how

my mom emailed my teacher and asked “how is

my son doing in school? In front of my face and

she said, “Great!”

My mom is pretty. My mom gives me kisses. She is nice. My mom

gives me lunch.

What Shield of Faith Feels About Education

Apostle Henry B. Alexander, Senior Pastor

Most mature human beings agree that the most important things in life are God, family and education, typically in that order. God is mankind’s Father, the one to whom we are all accountable: The family is the foundation of life, the source of the love that empowers us to accomplish things in the world: And EDUCATION is the tool that makes productivity and fulfillment in life possible. Without education the individual is not only ignorant of needed information but also unable to achieve the enormous potential that lies within each human being based upon the intellectual and personal gifts that God has given him. The Black Church in America has historically been a powerful agent for education in the community and Shield of Faith is passionately committed to follow in this honorable legacy. The commitment to education that emerges from African-American spiritual institutions is no doubt the result of the horrific social policy that existed in the days of chattel slavery when it was against the law in many states of the Union to teach an African-American to read! Certainly it is impossible to accurately quantify the negative impact and prolonged

consequences of a policy that for hundreds of years intentionally deprived one racial group of the information that was commonly shared by others in the culture with whom we are compelled to compete. To what extent might a group be disadvantaged when it lacks access to the detailed and complex information that is freely available to be enjoyed and utilized all other groups? Think of it! It was against the law to teach black people to read in America! From my earliest years I can easily remember when African-American children were not allowed to go to school with those of other races. I remember those days when racial segregation, a sort of American apartheid was social policy in our nation, the days of “separate-but-equal” educational facilities in which black children were forced to attend inferior schools with inferior teachers and substandard equipment – when black children knew that the government of the United States did not consider them “good enough” to go to school with children of other races and cultures. I clearly the news reports when a young black man named James Meredith was escorted by soldiers so that he could enroll at the all-white University of Mississippi. I remember the Governor of the state standing in the doorway to block this black young man from coming in. I can recall the morning when seven brave elementary school children required protection by the National Guard so that they could enter classrooms in Little Rock, Arkansas and seek for an equal education which might potentially prepare them to compete in life with white children. Sadly,

Page 4: Shield of Faith: The Education Church

America’s legacy is shameful in a variety of areas, including the education of minorities. Thank God for gradual change in our nation, largely brought about by brave and selfless men and women who risked their physical safety in protests and marched that shamed a nation and brought about a reversal of public policy regarding education. We have opportunity now! And Shield of Faith Christian Center of Pomona fashions itself as “The Education Church” for the very reason that success in life is now a matter of choice for those of us who recognize it! No longer does discriminatory social policy hold us back from becoming educated to the very limits of our intellectual potential. Thank God the doors of opportunity are open and we can now become all that we choose to become through our hard work and superior effort! If and individual commits himself to exceptional effort he is likely to achieve more than those around him! Those who work the hardest are likely to become the highest achievers and rise to the greatest places of power and impact in a society that no longer tolerates open racial prejudice and unveiled inequality of opportunity. For the most part we can rise as high as we choose to! It is now possible for a minority individual to become President of the United States, the CEO of American Express, a four star general in the military, or perhaps best of all, the Presiding Bishop of a great, worldwide ecclesiastical organization! We are limited only by our personal gifts and by our willingness to strive for excellence and academic achievement. And Shield of Faith is committed to help every young (or older) person who wants an education, who values his mind and his intellectual gifts and is willing to invest themselves in living up to

their potential. Our church has been carefully structured to instruct, challenge, inspire and support those who choose to operate in academic excellence and to succeed in high school, college and beyond. Both our Senior Pastor and First Lady have been blessed to achieve multiple graduate degrees. They worked and labored without parental financial support to put ourselves through schools at UCLA and California State University. They have paid the price and are now positioned to serve as role models to the thousands of young people who will choose to follow them to significance and world impact based on their decision to refine their minds, to sharpen their skills and to master the information that makes greatness possible. Students, Shield of Faith is with you in your endeavors because we have chosen to become “The EDUCATION CHURCH!” May God bless you richly as you pursue your EDUCATION!

“Friends” – J C Preciado

When I think about friends I think about what to do when I’m around them. For example, when I meet someone new I would introduce myself or tell them my name. The thing about friends is that when you have friends, you have people to talk about stuff that you like. I like talking about soccer and music. I have friends that like the type of things I like. When I have a friend that I’m close to, I like to give them stuff like a dollar or something. Also when I have friends I feel like I can trust them and they back me up. When someone is bugging me, they help me, they stand up for me.

Page 5: Shield of Faith: The Education Church

Wrong and Right Choices – Cortha McNair I had made up many excuses of how I made a wrong choice and a right choice. When I was three years old, I threw a plug switch on the back of my auntie’s head. Although I was a little kid, I still knew better, so I got a whooping. My wrong choice I did was lying to my mother about getting an A in my history class. My mother knew about it the next day at parent teacher conference. My teacher said, “Oh well you can bring it up to an A if you do the project.” I paid the consequences, and had gotten punished for a year. The good choice was, I worked on my project and did all my homework. The good news was I got an A in the end. If it wasn’t for the Lord on my side, and a diligent mother, I would have still had an F in the class.

“When I Grow Up” – Anthony Galvon

I want to be a football player because I have always liked it and I am really good at it. I’ll be playing it for my freshman year. Hopefully I will go pro for the NFL. I am really good at sports, so when my career ends I will go and play basketball. So I guess my career will start at my high school.

“Good Decisions” – JaSonique Scott

A good decision that I have made was not socking this girl in her face because she called me out of my name. I know that my consequence would have been that I was going to get suspended.

“What God Expects From Me”

Lauren Green God expects me to honor my mother and father. I will listen more when she’s speaking to me. Do everything that she asks me to do and do things efficiently. I will not get an attitude with my mom when I’m told to do something. I will follow the Ten Commandments, study my Bible, and do my best to go accordingly to what the Word says. I will trust in God and do right. I will love everyone, like the Bible says, “Treat others as you want to be treated.” And in the stories when the people began to judge the woman when she was caught sinning and bring her to Jesus. So that He can condemn her and He tells them to cast the first stone if they have not sinned.

“What Can I Do To Please God”

Mireya Preciado What I can do to please God. I will honor my father and mother by obeying them and when they tell me to do something, I will do it. I will go to church and praise God and help people get the Holy Ghost and get baptized. I will pray for people who are unsaved to go to church and get saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.

My mom is cool.

My mom is pretty.

My mom is nice.

“I Know Jesus Loves Me” – DeJa Morales I know Jesus loves me because He gave me a good family. He died on the cross for me. I have many good friends and a great family. I have a great mother. She cares for me. She cooks and cleans so we won’t have dirty clothes. She buys me cute clothes to wear. We have a good car, so we can go to church every Sunday. Because of Jesus these good things happen to me and my family.

“The Time I Needed a Friend” Kolia Burnett

The time I needed a friend was when I barely started seventh grade, and we moved so I had no friends at all. I didn’t know where to go, but then I made a friend. Her name was Brandi. She helped me with going to all my classes and where to go to lunch. She showed her friendship by helping me. She showed her kindness, too. That’s the time I needed a friend the most in my life.

“Ways to Tell When Is My Friend” Destiny MaGee

There are many ways to tell if someone is your friend. One way I can tell if someone is my friend is if we hang out or talk on weekdays, even if I don’t see them. Also, I go to the mall with my friends from my school. Another way I can tell if someone is my friend is when they call me “out of the blue” just to talk. Sometimes I call my friends Maya and Marrissa just to see how their day went, those are some ways you can tell if someone is your friend.

“Good Decisions” – EnDaisha Williams In my life I have made many good and bad decisions. I regret doing the bad things. I regret the bad things, but I’m going to start with the good things. In school, my grades are increasing. My G.P.A. is a 3.0. The homework that I get is always done each day. My teachers say that I’m a good help in my environment and that I do well when it comes to respecting others. These were some of the good decisions that I have made in my life.

“What God Expects From Me” Alyse Binion

Something God expects from me is to tell people about Him, so they can go to church and learn about Him. Also, he expects me to go to church, so we can learn about the Bible. He also wants us to pray and get to know Him. God wants me to give Him all my praise. He wants me to be a good person.

Page 7: Shield of Faith: The Education Church

“I Know that Jesus Loves Me” Christina Hunter

I know that Jesus loves me because He gave me

the will to obey my parents. I know that Jesus loves me because He died for me. I know that Jesus loves me because I share a lot. I know that Jesus loves me because I clean my room without anybody telling me. I know that Jesus loves me because I listen to my teacher. I know that Jesus loves me because I help people a lot. I know that Jesus loves me because He gave me food to feed the poor. “What I would do if someone was Getting

Bullied” – Alan Binion If I knew someone was getting bullied, I would tell the bully to stop. However, if they didn’t stop, I would go straight to an adult. Also, I would tell my classmate to come hang out with me and I would ask the bully, “What did he ever do to you?” There’s no reason you should bother him because, I know it’s uncalled for. Also, I know that words are powerful and bullying can even lead to someone killing themselves. Bullying happens all over the world and it’s good to look out for your classmate.

“The Right Decision” – Shaleah Lacey What if you found an iPod just lying there in your front yard? What would you do? I definitely know what I would do. If I found an iPod in my yard, first I would look around to see if someone was there. Then I would go inside my house and ask my mom if she could take me to the library so I could type something out to make an article on a lost iPod. Next, I would put the papers that I made up around the neighborhood and ask for them to describe it. I would do this despite the fact that my first mind would be to keep it. “Good Decisions” – NiRiesha Turner A good decision I made in my life was when I didn’t go to a party that I got invited to. This was a good decision because I knew I had church that night and I don’t need to be ditching church. Also, because of the music they play at parties and how they dance there. I know that bad things could have happened and then the consequences would have been very bad. I’m glad that I didn’t go because I heard that somebody got shot at the party and people were fighting and stuff. This smart decision I made turned out to have a great outcome. It came out to be a great outcome because that could have been me who got shot, and I learned some great things at church.

Poem

God expects me to believe To trust in Him faithfully

To give him my all So I give him my poetry

He expects fasting, worship, prayer and trust

I will give to God my life, if I must

Because fasting shows my resolve My ability to give God all

Because through Him, I will become strong

My worship shows my devotion My walk with God

My strength and emotion

Prayer is to talk to my Lord To lift my hands

And drop my knees to the floor

Trust is to exercise my faith And believe in God

And show that I will stay And to give my life

Is to show my love for the Lord

"What God Wants" - Tiana Simmons

God expects me to do what he calls me to. We're expected to pray and read our Bibles everyday. It's just the matter of us being obedient to The Lord. I'm going to be obedient by obeying my parents and going to going to school and getting good grades. Doing what The Lord wants requires fasting and praying in order to get closer to God. I need to be obedient and figure out what God's calling is for me. I try to be involved in church as much as possible. I'm going to start fasting every Wednesday like Apostle Alexander asks us to. I'm going to do our writing assignments every Sunday without getting an attitude. I know I'm capable of doing everything I stated. It just takes time and it's not going to happen over night.

"Good Morning" - Unique Knox

I can tell Jesus Loves me because He woke me up this morning. I can tell Jesus loves me because He died on the cross for me. I can tell Jesus loves me because He's always there for me. I can tell Jesus loves me because He put a roof over my head. I can tell Jesus loves me because He's always right there when I need Him. I can tell Jesus loves me because He gives us our breathe. He also gave me the power to write.

Tanya Spears

Jesus teaches me the Bible and how to understand it. He

gives me wisdom to give to the older people. God gives me

knowledge when I pray or study the Bible. I learned that

the word of God is talking to me.

“Neighbors” - Kayla Fittz

When we first moved to the new neighborhood, we didn’t know anybody there. The neighbor across from us came and introduced themselves to us. They were really nice and they invited us to his daughter’s birthday.

The neighbors across from us used to play really loud music. We got tired of it so we approached them in a nice way. We brought them cookies. After we gave them the cookies, they agreed to turn the music down.

If there is a problem in the neighborhood, they come and warn us about things going on. If there is a “break-in” or a lost dog they will come to our house and let us know.

This is mainly about being nice to your neighbors and if you’re nice to them, they will definitely return the favor

I Know What God Expects From Me – Tasiah Hunter

I know that God expects me to be obedient to my parents. I know this because He said in His word, “Honor you father and mother” and “Children obey you parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

The Lord also wants me to stay in contact with Him. When I say stay in contact , I mean praying, fasting and reading my Bible. If you pray you are talking to God and to answer, He will wither talk to you through the Bible or talk to you through a dream. So the Lord will keep in contact with you.

We all have known that the Lord wants all of us to be baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. In John 3:3 God says, “Except a man be born again, He cannot see the kingdom of God.” I know that I have the Holy Ghost, but I can’t keep it to myself. I have to spread it out to the people who don’t have the Holy Ghost. That’s another thing God wants me to do.

We Are…

“God’s Gift to me” - Anthony Binion Jr.

Throughout my life I believe God has given me much wisdom. From trusting in Him to respecting all of His children. With wisdom comes the necessity of use, for knowledge is of no use if it is to sit in the corner of one’s mind.

Consequently, I apply it to my life. This is done simply by upholding God’s righteousness. For me this is seldom a challenge because I know it is for my own good and advantage in life.

This wisdom continues to show its necessity to this day. When left alone, life is far from it’s best.
