Chris Jarvis Chris wrote this show, inspired by a another amateur group's Christmas Production he saw last year, where actors combined a short play with traditional carols. He wrote the Sherlock Jones tale for the Wheatsheaf, and hopes that you'll enjoy tonight’s performance. Chris also starred earlier this year in Run For Your Wife - as Bobby, the rather gay neigh-bour from upstairs....a challenging role, I'm sure you'll agree!

Peyton Taylor and Ethan Flynn This is a debut performance for both Peyton and Ethan at the Wheatsheaf. Chosen by our Artistic Director, and from our Youth Group, our two young actors show great potential. They both enjoy being on stage and have shown lots of enthusiasm in learning their lines - and those of the other cast members too! Cheeky things!

Christmas Carols Ding Dong! Merrily on high

Ding Dong! Merrily on high In heav'n the bells are ringing;

Ding Dong! Verily the sky Is riv'n with angels singing:

Gloria, Hosanna in Excelsis.

E'en so here below, below, let steeple bells be swungen,

And I-O, I-O, I-O, By priest and people sungen, Gloria, Hosanna in Excelsis.

Pray you, dutifully prime

Your matin chime, ye ringers: May you beautifully rhyme

Your evetime song, ye singers. Gloria, Hosanna in Excelsis.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Hark! the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King

Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!"

Joyful, all ye nations rise; Join the triumph of the skies; With angelic host proclaim

"Christ is born in Bethlehem!" Hark! the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ, by highest heaven adored;

Christ the everlasting Lord; Late in time behold Him come, Offspring of the virgin’s womb.

Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see; hail the incarnate Deity

Pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel

Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King"

Hail! the heaven-born Prince of Peace!

Hail! the Son of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings,

risen with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by,

born that man no more may die; Born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King"

Good King Wenceslas

Good King Wenceslas looked out On the feast of Stephen

When the snow lay round about Deep and crisp and even

Brightly shone the moon that night Though the frost was cruel

When a poor man came in sight Gathering winter fuel

"Hither page and stand by me

If thou know'st it telling Yonder peasant, who is he?

Where and whats his dwelling?" "Sire, he lives a good league hence

Underneath the mountain Close against the forest fence

By Saint Agnes fountain"

"Bring me flesh and bring me wine Bring me pine logs hither

Thou and I shall see him dine When we bear them thither"

Page and monarch on they went On they went together

Through the rude wind's wild lament Through the bitter weather

7

Christmas Carols "Sire the night is darker now

And the storm grows stronger Fails my heart, I know not how

I can go no longer" "Mark my steps, be brave my page

Tread thou in them boldly Then thou'lt find the winter's rage

Freeze thy blood less coldly”

In his master's steps he trod Where the snow lay dinted Heat was in the very sod

Which his foot had printed Therefore Christian men be sure

Wealth or rank possessing Ye who now do bless the poor Shall yourselves find blessing

The Holly and The Ivy

The holly and the ivy When they are both full grown

Of all the trees that are in the wood The holly wears the crown

The rising of the sun And the running of the deer

The playing of the merry organ Sweet singing in the choir

The holly bears a blossom As white as lily flower

And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ To be our sweet Saviour

The holly bears a berry As red as any blood

And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ To do poor sinners good

The holly bears a prickle As sharp as any thorn

And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ On Christmas day in the morn

The holly bears a bark As bitter as any gall

And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ For to redeem us all

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night! All is calm, All is bright

Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child Holy Infant so Tender and mild,

Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight!

Glories stream from heaven afar; Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ia!

Christ the Saviour is born! Christ the Saviour is born!

Silent night, holy night! Wondrous star, lend thy light!

With the angels let us sing Alleluia to our King!

Christ the Saviour is here, Jesus the Saviour is here!

Silent night, Holy night! Son of God, love's pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face, with the dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus Lord at thy birth; Jesus Lord at thy birth.

Christmas Carols God Rest Ye Merry, Gentle-

men

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay;

Remember Christ, our Saviour, Was born on Christmas day,

To save us all from Satan's power When we were gone astray. O tidings of comfort and joy,

comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

In Bethlehem, in Jewry, This blessed Babe was born,

And laid within a manger, Upon this blessed morn;

That which His Mother Mary, Did nothing take in scorn.

O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,

O tidings of comfort and joy.

From God our Heavenly Father, A blessed Angel came;

And unto certain Shepherds Brought tidings of the same:

How that in Bethlehem was born The Son of God by Name.

O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,

O tidings of comfort and joy.

"Fear not," then said the Angel, "let nothing you affright,

This day is born a Saviour Of pure Virgin bright,

To free all those who trust in Him From Satan's power and might."

O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,

O tidings of comfort and joy.

The shepherds at those tidings Rejoiced much in mind,

And left their flocks a-feeding, In tempest, storm, and wind:

And went to Bethlehem straightway, The Son of God to find.

O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,

O tidings of comfort and joy.

And when they came to Bethlehem Where our dear Saviour lay, They found Him in a manger,

Where oxen feed on hay; His Mother Mary kneeling down,

Unto the Lord did pray. O tidings of comfort and joy,

comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

Now to the Lord sing praises, All you within this place,

And with true love and brotherhood Each other now embrace; This holy tide of Christmas

All other doth deface. O tidings of comfort and joy,

comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy

Once In Royal David's City

Once in royal David's city, stood a lowly cattle shed,

where a mother laid her baby in a manger for His bed:

Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven, Who is God and Lord of all,

And His shelter was a stable, and His cradle was a stall;

With the poor and meek and lowly, lived on earth our Savior holy.

9

Christmas Carols And through all his wondrous childhood

He would honor and obey, Love and watch the lowly maiden,

in whose gentle arms He lay. Christian children all should be,

mild, obedient, good as He.

For He is our child-hood's pattern, Day by day like us He grew,

He was little, weak, and helpless, Tears and smiles like us He knew, And He feeleth for our sadness, And He shareth in our gladness.

And our eyes at last shall see Him, through His own redeeming love; For that child so dear and gentle,

is our Lord in heaven above, And He leads His children on, to the place where He is gone.

Not in that poor lowly stable, with the oxen standing by,

We shall see Him, but in heaven, set at God's right hand on high;

When like stars His children crowned,

all in white shall be around.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

You better watch out You better not cry

Better not pout I'm telling you why

Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list, And checking it twice;

Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice.

Santa Claus is coming to town He sees you when you're sleeping

He knows when you're awake He knows if you've been bad or good

So be good for goodness sake!

O! You better watch out! You better not cry.

Better not pout, I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.

Jingle Bells

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!

O what fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh

Dashing through the snow On a one-horse open sleigh,

Over the fields we go, Laughing all the way; Bells on bob-tail ring, making spirits bright,

What fun it is to ride and sing A sleighing song tonight Jingle bells, jingle bells,

jingle all the way! O what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh

Christmas Carols The Twelve Days of Christ-

mas

On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me:

A partridge in a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me:

Two turtle doves And a Partridge in a pear tree.

Three French hens

Four calling birds

Five gold rings

Six geese a laying

Seven swans a swimming

Eight maids a milking

Nine ladies dancing

Ten lords a leaping

Eleven pipers piping

Twelve drummers drumming

O Little Town of Bethlehem

O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie.

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by;

Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light;

The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary, And, gathered all above

While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wondering love.

O morning stars, together Proclaim the holy birth.

And praises sing to God the King. And peace to men on earth.

How silently, how silently The wondrous gift is given!

So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His heaven. No ear may hear His coming;

But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive Him,

still The dear Christ enters in.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend to us, we pray;

Cast out our sin and enter in; Be born in us today!

We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell;

O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel!

White Christmas

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know

Where the treetops glisten and children listen

To hear sleigh bells in the snow.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write

May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be

white.

Chairman’s Christmas Message

As 2006 draws to a close, I'd like to thank you all again for support-ing us throughout the year. It's been so nice to see so many famil-iar faces in the audience from one show to another, and it means so much to us to see you having such a good time that you return again and again.

For those of you that have missed it (and I can't imagine how!) this year saw us win the 2006 Godiva Award for Best Theatre in Coven-try and Warwickshire. This is a testament to your votes and support and a real encouragement for us to press on for greater things in 2007.

I hope you'll join us for the Pantomime in January 2007, the first the Wheatsheaf has put on in many years, which will be the first in a calendar of great and diverse shows in 2007.

Merry Christmas to all our guests Chris Jarvis
