Technical Specification

Page 5: SHERA Product brochure...that, no additional maintenance or specialist cleaning products are required. Washing SHERA decking can be washed using warm water and soap with a soft sponge

Shera decking can be installed directly onto steel joists underneath or to aluminum joists runing across the structural steel. We recommend the following joist centres for the two

difference widths that we offer:

25mm thick x 150mm wide boards - 400mm centres25mm thick x 200mm wide boards - 500mm centres

Supporting frame structures: steel frame

The steel used should meet UK construction standards and the SHERA boards should be securely fixed to the steel. The recommended sizes of steel joists are listed below:

Span Length of Beam (metres) Steel Joist Profiles

<1.00 C 100 x 50 x 20 x 2.3

<1.50 C 100 x 50 x 20 x 2.3

<2.00 C 150 x 75 x 20 x 3.2

SHERA decking is designed to be installed correctly using the appropriate frame materials and used with ‘normal’ levels of uniform loads. Typical load bearing data can be seen below:

Joist spacing: load bearing data

Shera decking boards 25mm thickness – allowable uniform loads. For decking boards width 100/150/200/250/300mm

Tip: if you are not sure of the potential weight loads we recommend a narrower joist spacing, alternatively, feel free to get in touch and we’d be more than happy to assist

Transport, storage and handling

Handling and Carrying SHERA BoardsSHERA deck boards should be handled and carried correctly in order to avoid damage to the painted surfaces and to the edges and corners of the boards.

Boards should be carried in an upright position to avoid flexing.

Share the load with another colleague if needed, holding one end each with the board in an upright position.

Do not install and /or paint boards when they are damp or wet.

Lifting and Lowering BoardsLift the boards from the stack in an upright position and be careful not to damage ends/edge when lifting and lowering boards.

Carry the boards with another colleague if needed, holding one end each, with the board in an upright position to avoid unnecessary flexing of the board.

Stacking and StorageStore in a shaded, dry and level area. Pallets should be transported using a forklift.

Delivery

Whether it is for a full arctic load, self-unloading vehicles, flatbeds or smaller rigid vehicles we can offer the right solution for you.

We can organise deliveries to a time that suits you, provide any additional paperwork and work to your construction programme. On larger orders we can plan phased deliveries and ensure we have stock on the ground to make sure there are no hold-ups on site.

Handling and Delivery

Pre-drill SHERA deck boards 6-7 mm deep using an 8mm drill

bit.

Screw SHERA boards to the chosen frame using SHERA

FIX-W45 or FIX-T 1 3/4” screws and apply SHERA Touch Up

Paint in the screw hole.

Insert SHERA Screw Plugs to cover screw heads and knock plugs in gently using a rubber

hammer until the surface is flush with the boards.

Cutting SHERA decking

SHERA decking can be cut as required using a normal electric power saw with a diamond blade. We always recommend wearing full PPE, including using a face mask to avoid inhaling dust, whilst cutting SHERA decking.

Tip: before cutting SHERA decking use paper masking tape along the planned cut line to avoid accidental chipping of the edges of the boards due to damaged or substandard cutting blades.

Touching up SHERA colour through decking

SHERA Touch Up Paint can be used to repair any damaged areas.

Tip: ensure the surface area is thoroughly cleaned before applying SHERA Touch Up Paint or any other primer and before installing SHERA Screw Plugs.

Installation

Like any hard landscaping material in an external setting, dust, dirt and debris will accumulate on the boards so we recommend an annual clean to help keep on top of this. Regular sweeping will also help prevent the build up of dust and debris. Other than

that, no additional maintenance or specialist cleaning products are required.

Washing

SHERA decking can be washed using warm water and soap with a soft sponge.

Maintenance and Care

Decking Furniture

Care should be taken when moving furniture, plant pots or other heavy objects to prevent scratching the deck board surface.

Decking Plants

Use plant pot trays with any decking plants in order to prevent permanent exposure to water/damp/mud.
