There is a saying that “Change is the only constant in Today’s world”. When I look back on 2015, our major intention was to revamp and rejuvenate Uganda Baati so that this rejuvenation is not only felt internally, but also externally with customers, competitors and other stake holders as well. This meant a series of actions in terms of attitudes, motivation, focus on planning and execution, remove bias etc. Fortunately, our custom-ers have responded positively to all the changes that we tried in the market, and did buy more of our products in 2015 which meant that we could deliver growth.

The way I see 2016, I feel it would also be a challenging year for us. Hopefully if there are no major disturbances on the political front on account of elections and no major economic issue, we should not do too badly. The foundation is in place. We have taken a much higher target and I am sure if we continue to focus the way we did in 2015, we will achieve our 2016 objectives as well.

I take this opportunity again to thank each one of you for the support and suggestions from time to time. They have all been very invaluable in helping us build a better and stronger Uganda Baati.

Best wishes for 2016

Regards,

DP MohantyBUSINESS HEAD & DIRECTOR

As we come to the end of what has been an exciting, challenging, inter-esting and dierent year in Uganda Baati Limited, I can only say that a determined and focused team will always achieve success.

Reflection through the year shows how great a team we are as we have achieved alot in 2015. All of us have worked hard to achieve our goals in one form or the other whether are supervisors or are being supervised in the dierent sections of our company.

As we move into 2016, we must have a positive attitude over and above all the duties that have been assigned to us at any given time if we are to produce the desired results. We must win the trust of the people that walk with us this journey as we work on a daily basis. Three qualities are indis-pensable to all of us if we are to become successful and give the best of ourselves in the coming year 2016.

COMPETENCEOur competence must be clear to those who have chosen and selected us to perform work. They must see our wisdom and confidence in the face of assign-ments, see solutions from us, and not see work going uncompleted for days, weeks and months.

Dear All,

We are now coming to almost the end of the year for 2015 and as we enter into the New Year, I thought it was appropriate to highlight a few things.

First of all I take this opportunity to wish you and your family “ Merry Christmas & Happy New Year”. Before we bid adieu to 2015, I am sure we would like to cherish some wonderful memo-ries we had in 2015 at Uganda Baati. I would like to thank each one of you for the eort and contribution during the year to ensure that Uganda Baati does well.

It was a tough year but a very eventful year at Uganda Baati. We not only reversed the declining trend in business but ensured that we grow well in double digits and come as close to the target that we had set ourselves for. Except for the exchange losses due to the currency devaluation, we were close to the targets for most of the parameters we had set ourselves for.

I know it was a bit tough for many as we are trying to reverse gear and lot of time we had to shed our existing inertia, thoughts, and beliefs to come out with new and better way of doing things to make us successful.

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR CONTINUED

CHARACTERThe people that have chosen us must see integrity and honesty in us. In their minds we must be utterly trustworthy, men and women to be depended upon.

CONNECTIONWe must know how to connect with people, we must speak their language, we must also express compassion for their predica-ments and relate well to all.

They must not see an enemy in us but rather team members complementing their eorts for success.Winning is partly achieved by a person who possesses the above qualities and all of us must do our best to have these three. The simple formula for winning in 2016 is: COMPETENCE + CHARACTER + CONNECTION = SUCCESS

Once again welcome to the last publication for this year. A big thank you to the editorial team- Judith, Luisa, Nash and Davies. Merry Christmas & Happy New year!

At the onset we would like to congratulate the entire team for the stupendous performance in the year 2015. The year has seen a big turn around for the company and credit goes to the entire team who have put in a lot of hard work.

State of Ugandan Economy

Despite weak demand from abroad, Uganda’s growth prospects have remained relatively good, though below historical average, largely driven by domestic demand, with strong public investments. However, domestic demand is expected to weaken in the coming months due to tight policy stance before broadening in the medium to long term

The Shilling depreciation pressures which started in 2014 continued through 2015, with the Shilling depreciating by 22 % year -on-year on a trade weighted basis. However the shilling has showed some resilience against the USD since October, thereby arresting the free fall depreciation of the UGX against the USD. The depreciation pressures were largely driven by the contin-ued global strengthening of the USD; continued weakening of the current account deficit; reduction in FDI inflows on account of deferred investments in the oil sector because of low global oil prices;

net portfolio outflows; elevated demand for foreign exchange from the key sectors of the economy including energy, manufacturing and oshore players; and bearish sentiments in the foreign exchange market.

Inflationary pressures remain elevated, though inflation remained close to the BoU’s medium-term target of 5 % after bottoming out at the beginning of 2015.

Interest rates have risen in the recent past, reflecting expectations about increased domestic financing and rising inflation expectations in parts driven by sustained deprecia-tion pressures. The yields on government securities remain at 20.28% (91 days) and bank rare at 22% p.a.

UBL Technical EmpowermentAs we were close 2015, Uganda Baati continued with our technical empower-ing by training our partners through workshops, seminars and meets.

In December 2015 we held two Fundi meetings in Gulu and Lira. Our Technical team led by Brian Kagezi, Jayendra and team, Lukyamuzi Davies and Andama Robert conducted two successful Fundi meetings where we drew close to 30 Builders in Gulu and 81 Builders in Lira respectively.

The Fundis were mobilized from surrounding Districts of Gulu, Adjuman, Pader, Lamwo, Lira, Apach and Dokolo. The two day meeting was very interac-tive and Uganda Baati received impor-tant information concerning our brands on the market.

I am happy to note that in Lira, we did not only train Fundi’s alone but dealers and some distributors. We were able to take them through our new Zinc Al technol-ogy, Optima Plus double coat color system, SAFLOK concealed fix roofing methods to mention but a few.

Our partners were happy with the approach more especially as they termed as END OF YEAR GIFT from Uganda Baati and they promised to provide the best building guidance to their clients come 2016.

At the end of the workshop, all partici-pants were awarded with Certificates of attendance. Many thanks go to the respective Branch Managers for the mobilization and support.

4 Behaviors That Push People away from You and Derail your Growth

.

Taking everything too personally.

People are toxic to be around when they believe that everything happening around them is a direct assault on them or is in some way all about them. The truth is that what people say and do to you is much more about them, than you. People’s reactions to you are about their filters, and their perspectives, wounds and experiences. Whether people think you’re amazing, or believe you’re the worst, again, it’s more about them. I’m not saying we should be narcissists and ignore all feedback. I am saying that so much hurt, disappointment and sadness in our lives comes from our taking things personally when it’s far more productive and healthy to let go of others’ good or bad opinion of you, and to operate with your own heart, intuition and wisdom as your guide.

Acting like you’re always a victim.

Another toxic behaviour is persistent complaining that fuels your sense of victimization.

.

Believing you’re a victim, that you have no power to exert and no power over the direction of your life, is a toxic stance that keeps you stuck. Working as a life coach with people who’ve suered terrible trauma in their lives but found the courage to turn it all around, I know that we have access to far more power, authority, and influence over our lives than we initially believe. When you stop complaining, and refuse to see yourself as a hapless victim, you’ll find that you are more powerful than you realized, but only if you choose to accept this reality.

Obsessive negative thinking

It’s very hard to be around people who refuse to let go of negativity when they dwell on and speak incessantly about the terrible things that could happen and have happened, the slights they’ve suered, and the unfairness of life. These people stubbornly refuse to see the positive side of life and the positive lessons from what’s happening. Pessimism is one thing – but remaining perpetually locked in negative thoughts is another. Only seeing the negative, and operating from a view that everything is negative and against you,

3

In our line of work, we’ve seen scores of toxic behaviours that push people away from each other. And we’ve witnessed the devastation these behaviours cause – professional success and to the well-being of both the individual behaving negatively and to everyone in their life.

Whether your toxic behaviour is a common occurrence, or just a once in a blue moon phenomena, it’s critical for your happiness and success that you are able to recognize when you’re behaving badly and shift it when it emerges.

2

.

is a skewed way of thinking and living, and you can change that.

Lack of emotional self-control.

An inability to manage your emotions is toxic to everyone around you. We all know these people who explode in anger and tears over the smallest hiccup or problem. Yelling at the grocery store clerk for the long line, screaming at an employee for a small error she made, or losing it with your daughter for spilling juice on the floor. If you find that you’re overly emotional, losing it at every turn, you need some outside assistance to help you gain control over your emotions and understand what’s at the root of your emotionality.

There’s more to it than what appears on the surface. An outside perspective – and a new kind of support – can work wonders.

There is a bigger picture to your life, and it’s not about what you achieve in the eyes of the masses. It’s about the journey, the process, the path – what you’re learning, how you’re helping others learn too, and the growing process you allow yourself to participate in.

Hoping we're ready to reflect on ourselves, work hard to feel better, think more clearly, and get our lives back on track.

Wishing you a happy start to THE NEW YEAR 2016.

Our major focus come 2016 is to sell color in large volumes.Team Arua has become strong in 2015 which has helped us in team building activities like football. This has made us come together as a team which is also helping us in our daily work. We take this oppor-tunity to thank the Business Head and HR department who have supported the branch and not forgetting the sta members who put in their time and eort to make this team strong by participating in all games planned.

We had some activities that took place within the region such as fundi meetings in Gulu with the support of the marketing team from Kampala.

During these meetings, engineers were taught about the UBL products, new brands, and generally how to fix the iron sheets etc.

Gulu showroom is under renovation and will be oicially opened soon. This will largely cater for our clients in Gulu and surrounding areas as a one stop centre for product inquiries, hence promoting Uganda Baati products in the region.

As far as CSR is concerned, Arua Branch participated in some activities during this 4th quarter such as Independence Day celebrations in Arua – Vura sub-county where sta participated in matching at Vura – sub county grounds as shown in the pictures below. The branch also joined hands in supporting some churches within Arua Vura sub-county by giving support as part of Uganda baati Limited contribution to them. We hope in 2016 we shall be able to do atleast one major corporate social responsibility activity there by giving back to the community. We are looking forward to a better 2016 and we hope we shall achieve more than we did in the year 2015 God being our guide.
