THANK YOU FOR JOINING US TONIGHT!Each year, we invite the best singers, dancers and musicians we can find from high schools across Cape Cod to perform in a benefit concert. We have two large dance troupes, Dance Designs and the Beth Walsh Dancers…classical musicians from the Cape Cod Conservatory program (their whole orchestra)…plus ballet, tap and modern dancers…solo vocalists covering from pop to opera…the best student rock and jazz bands we can find, plus musicians from violin to bag-pipes, depending on what’s best each year.

Cape Cod Community College has been our host for the past 8 years. Tilden is the perfect venue with a sound and light crew that showcases the performers at their best. When the artists are not performing, they act as stage hands for one another. Schools may compete in sports, but SHELTER is a collaboration born of an awareness that we have people in trouble: veterans, homeless, and victims of domestic violence who need protection and assistance.

Our first concert fed the Noah Shelter for 4 months. Over the years, we have assisted the Veterans’ Outreach Center in Hyannis, Homeless not Hopeless Shelters and more. We’ve worked with the Duffy Health Center and totally funded 3 Stand Down programs, bringing up to 30 agencies together to provide free services to Cape Veterans.

Silence is Golden: Please don’t forget to silence all cell phones.

ABOUT CAPE COD ACADEMYOUR SCHOOL We are an independent, Pre-K through 12 school located in Osterville. At CCA, we understand the specific learning motivations of each child, and personalize the experience to challenge and support each child, allowing them to flourish in their own way. CCA focuses on developing the soft skills and the mindsets that are essential to a student’s success and building a meaningful, self-determined life.

EXCELLENCE IS PART OF OUR CULTURE Students at Cape Cod Academy respect each other and embrace excellence in sports, scholarship, and the arts. There is more than one way to be cool here; kids with all sorts of gifts and talents can find a home with us.

INNOVATION FLOURISHES HERE Our curriculum isn't driven by standardized testing —and that changes everything. Cape Cod Academy teachers develop new approaches to engaging students based on the best research and our own experiences.

WE TEACH INDIVIDUALS We don't just teach subjects here; we teach individuals. We have a faculty who teach collaboratively and holistically in a supportive, safe environment. We teach to the whole child, so students thrive academically and as “human beings.”

WE DELIVER As a college preparatory school, we deliver the goods. Our thoughtful and strategic college process begins early. Take a look at the colleges our students attend. Talk to our graduates about how prepared they were compared to their peers.

SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL Cape Cod Academy is an intentionally-sized community which helps to create what we consider to be one of our great strengths: the way it feels here. When classes are smaller, teachers know every child well. Teachers can stretch individual students to try more challenging assignments while also being able to offer detailed feedback. Friendships form across grade levels. Older students mentor younger students. CCA is a place where everybody truly knows your name. Many schools assure you that they're a community, but here it's real and you can feel it.

WE'RE INTERNATIONAL Cape Cod Academy has a vibrant population of Chinese students who live with host families in the area. Theses students in Grades 8-12 flourish not just as scholars, but as artists, performers, and athletes. Our community gains a new dimension in friendships, collaboration and global awareness.

THANK YOU TO TO OUR “GODPARENTS”We are pleased to recognize the following sponsors and contributors to this event:

JOIN US. Become a “godparent” donor !

Our Godparent Donors contribute $1,000 and upwards each year to put some muscle behind our efforts. Wendy’s of Cape Cod has rented the hall for us

since we started. This means every penny we raise goes to assistance with no overhead. We are 100% efficient. If you ever wondered who will be the next wave of socially-conscious benefactors will come from after we’re gone, the answer is above. By being a part of this, you ennoble the efforts of several

hundred young Cape Codders and empower them to do good. It’s hard to say whose lives are changed more through what we’re doing together.

Please join us.

SHELTER FROM THE STORMABOUT US The Shelter from the Storm concerts are put on by a team of students from Cape Cod Academy. They are members of our People-to-People International Chapter and members of the Barnstable County Human Rights Academy.

WHO ARE WE HELPING THIS YEAR? Our student committees have responded to information provided by State Senator Dan Wolf and from our Cape Cod Council of Churches. Last year we spread our revenues between a number of worthy organizations (see below). This year our students have voted to devote 100% of our efforts to rebuilding the SAFE HARBOR shelter for battered women and children. Funding this vital refuge has always been difficult and victimized women and children have had to live in seriously sub-standard conditions. If we can raise at least as much as we did last year (and hopefully improve on it) we’ll be able to refurbish 10 living units—bringing the facility to a condition where people who have already suffered so much can re-group with at least some dignity and grace.

Where our donations went last year:• $5,000 to the Cape Cod Council of Churches • $2,000 to Safe Harbor, the Cape’s shelter for

battered women and children • $3,600 to Champ Homes • $3,800 for Cape Veterans • $3,000 for Homeless Not Hopeless • $2,000 for the Noah Shelter• $1,000 for Children’s Cove
