 SHERLOCK HOLMES RETURNS 

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle killed off Sherlock Holmes because he spent too much time writing the

stories. Now, 8 years after the author!s death, "ritain!s most famous detecti#e is being brought

 back to life with a new no#el by Anthony Horowit$. %he character of Sherlock Holmes was

originally created by the Scottish writer Arthur Conan Doyle, who wrote four no#els and more

than & short stories about Holmes. After his death, his son Adrian wrote se#eral stories about

the famous 'ictorian detecti#e, but critics say he was ne#er that popular. "ut it!s the first time

that the Arthur Conan Doyle Society has officially asked an author to write a new no#el. His

name is Anthony Horowit$ and is best known for his Ale( )ider children!s series. So was he

worried by the challenge* Anthony Horowit$+ -ell ob#iously, was worried to a certain e(tent

and you are dealing with probably the most iconic detecti#e in the whole history of literature.

And the one thing didn!t want to do was to disappoint those really de#out fans, the sort of 

Sherlock Holmes Society and people who lo#e these books. "ut to be honest with you,

actually found it fairly easy to write because ha#e lo#ed those books since was /0 years old,

!#e read them two or three times during the course of my lifetime 1 in fact, my whole life as a

writer of crime fiction myself was, to a certain e(tent, inspired by Doyle and find the book not

so scary as thought it might be. Anthony Horowit$ says he!s a de#oted fan and aims to

 produce a first rate mystery for a modern audience.
