Spend a week learning how to create original songs with hit songwriter Sandy Ramos who has written songs recorded by the Dixie Chicks, Neal McCoy, Faith Hill and more! Get a basic overview of song structures, lyrics, melodies, and ideas, and delve into the world of where it all starts - with a song! Explore what hit songs have in common, where writers get their inspiration, and what comes first: lyrics or music? No experience in songwriting is necessary, but students should have a basic understanding of how to play an instrument/carry a tune as most songwriting requires some sort of musical talent. Students will write and record a demo of their best song by the end of the week, and perform at a ‘writers’ round.

Come have a fantastic week with other students who are excited about viola and want to make music together! This workshop is for high school and advanced middle school violists who want to take their playing to the next level. Students will get an opportunity to play in large and small viola ensembles, have private lessons, and perform at the final concert. Students will also learn how to practice as effectively and efficiently as possible, how to warm up well, and how to prevent injury while playing.
