Chairman’s Ramblings…Welcome to the 60th Shelf Gala, the first one been on Saturday 25th June, 1960 (see page 6in this programme for a newspaper cutting of the first Shelf Gala and on page 55 for another newspaper cutting of the second Shelf Gala.According to the two reports they “bathed in sunshine” and “the weather was good and theevent well attended”. Hopefully this year we are blessed with the same weather because ithas a great bearing on the success of Shelf Gala, a fine sunny day makes all the differenceto the numbers of people through the gates. Last year we had a brilliant day weather wise and a large crowd in the early afternoon butthat decimated around 2.45pm due to England playing Sweden in the World Cup QuarterFinal where England won 2-0. The gala went on with the entertainment and we even got alarge TV screen (complete with licence) to try and keep some people at the Gala. Our fundraising takings were down but we were able to donate approximately the same amount tolocal organisations, charities and worthy causes. This again is due to the generosity of theShelf public, our advertisers and sponsors who support us year after year. Thank You to all. While I was writing my rambling I began to think of what Shelf was like in the Sixties andhow it has changed to the present day. It has certainly grown in the housing market, a lot ofbusiness have moved on or closed, pubs have been open and shut and reopened, the cricketteam have practically moved out and joined Northowram Hedge Top, many of the changeshappening in my time with Shelf Gala. It’s like a history lesson looking through the oldprogrammes. This year we have some great entertainment in the arena with a great local group MemphisCruisers on the stage and in the Arena Jack Carthy, World Champion Trials Cyclist, alongwith Stardom, Magpie Movers, a local dance and fitness group from Halifax; ImperialCrusaders, a local marching band; Dance Stars, a local dance troupe from Woodside andoutside the arena we have again, Brian Llewellyn Punch and Judy, stalls, food, beer tent, tea tent and fairground.Thank you again to all our sponsors and advertisers, to Shelf Junior Football Club fororganising our five a side football competition, to Colletts Transport for loan of wagon forstage and to all our hard working volunteers who help year on year and of course you…the general public who attend and spend each year. Your support is greatly appreciated byourselves and of course the recipients of our donationsAs ever our aim is to provide a great family day out for Shelf and surrounding districts andraise funds to donate to local charities and organisations at our presentation evening heldlater in the year in October. Many thanksTrevor Priestley, Chairman, Shelf Gala Committee 2019

Our Out of School philosophy is all about a child’s need to play. Play is a biological, psychological and social necessity and is fundamental to
the healthy development and well being of individuals and communities.
At Shelf Out of School Club play is a process that is freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated. That is, our children determineand control the content and intent of their play, by following their own instincts, ideas and interests, in their own way for their own reasons. Children lead theplanning at Shelf Out of School Club and they tell us what fun activities they
would like to do, which makes for some fun times!
Our Childcare Practitioners prime focus is to support and facilitate the play process.

Q. I’ve had an offer accepted to buy aproperty, what do I do now?
A. Now’s the time to instruct a PropertyLawyer or Solicitor. Call us for a free, noobligation quote! We will guide you throughthe process over the phone and with aleaflet and we’ll keep you updated.
Q. What is the advantage of using aProperty Lawyer as a LicensedConveyancer instead of a Solicitor?
A. A Solicitor practices in all areas of law. A Property Lawyer and Conveyancerspecialise in property law.
Q. My neighbour believes my fence is onhis land, can you help?
A. Yes, we can advise on the title and whoowns or is responsible for whichboundaries.
Q. How can I protect my propertyfurther from fraud if I do not live in it?
A. Your property is at risk from fraudsters ifyou do not live in it, if it is mortgagefree, if it is empty or if you let it out. Wecan assist you by registering a PropertyAlert on your behalf at the LandRegistry.
Q. Is my property at risk if my title isunregistered?
A. Unregistered properties are at more riskof fraud, especially if there is nomortgage on it and more so if you donot live there. We can assist byregistering the title at Land Registry byway of Voluntary Registration.
Shelf resident Valerie Holmes is a Property Lawyer with an officein Hipperholme next to the Coop. A Property Lawyer specialisesin Property and Land and is here to help you when you buy, sell, transfer or lease a property, or have any concerns overboundaries. We also deal with the legal aspect of re-mortgaging too.
Here Valerie answers some commonly raised questions.
