Creation of Coca-Cola Beverages Pakistan Limited

Coca-Cola® originated as a soda fountain beverage in 1886 selling for five cents a glass. Early

growth was impressive, but it was only when a strong bottling system developed that Coca-Cola

became the world-famous brand it is today.

As a part of its drive to enhance the quality, availability, and image of Coca-Cola products, The

Coca-Cola Company established a new Company in Pakistan in 1996, by the name of “Coca-

Cola Beverages Pakistan Limited” (CCBPL or Company).

CCBPL is a part of Coca-Cola İçecek which is sixth largest KO bottler in the

World. It has a presence in ten countries including Turkey, Kazakhstan,

Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Syria, and

Pakistan. CCI has 48% shares of CCBPL with Management Control.

CCBPL started the process of acquiring and investing in locally franchised bottling operations.

This process was completed in 2006 and, thereafter, all manufacturing and selling rights of Coca-

Cola products are now with CCBPL.

CCBPL has 6 plants and 13 warehouses throughout the country and serves a population of more

than 170 million with a production capacity of 111 million physical cases. CCBPL is a

significant player in the growth of Pakistan’s economy since it is one of the country’s top foreign

direct investments in FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) business and is one of the major

tax paying beverages companies of Pakistan.

Project during internship

The project I was assigned for my internship tenure was to work on company’s Master data. The

company had to re-implement its SAP (supply chain) according to the template provided by

(Coca cola Icecek).

Following were the tasks which I was assigned and completed during internship.

1. Identification of duplicates material in SAP.

2. Identification of redundant and inactive BOM’s of finished goods from SAP.

3. Identification of redundant and in active BOM’s of Semi-finished goods from SAP.

4. Creation of PK MM authorization matrix and single roles.

5. Creation of vehicles on Beverages Advance Sales Information system (BASIS).

Following were the Major tasks of the project:

SAP:

Is a German multinational software corporation that makes enterprise software to

manage business, It’s an enterprise resource and planning (ERP) software that help

large scale organizations in their different fields such as Finance, Supply chain and

HR.

SAP (Supply Chain)

CCBPL is also using a supply chain module to manage its Production and logistics,

It helps in production planning, managing production through different ways, and logistics.

Identification of duplicates material in SAP

Since the organization is using SAP for their Business transactions. While working on SAP the

organization faced some problem as some duplicates materials were created in the software by

different users on different territories.

Before starting our work we received the latest list of materials extracted from SAP. There were

almost more than 37000 materials created in software. The duplicates were found into different

departments and different locations of the company. The different departments include

marketing, production, commercial (sales), logistics which includes the transport fleet and the

sales centers across Pakistan.

The criteria we selected to find the duplicates were different from department to department. We

also set criteria that those materials which are not in business from last two years should be

removed from the list.

We found duplicates from procedures some were found by applying a formula in the MS excel,

some were found by visiting the Coca Cola plant and Sales center, some were

found by consulting the different departments where the materials belongs to. And

the most critical thing was to identifying the materials eye to eye.

Sheikh Sami Ullah “Internship Report” Page 9

Page 10: Sheikh Sami Ullah (Internship Report)

We found almost 11000 duplicate materials in different categories and almost 2000 material

inactive that worth millions of rupee. The materials were found in Production, raw materials,

shop floor, production lines and the fleet.

This task can be more accurately performed if the concerned people of the different departments

are attached to it. This exercise helps the company to get a clear picture of the materials they use,

material which are not in use and what type of materials to use in near future.

Identification of redundant BOM’s of finished goods (FERT) in the

company’s SAP

CCBPL is dealing with its variety of brands in Pakistan. They are dealing in Coca-Cola, Coca-

Cola (diet), Sprite, Sprite Zero, Fanta, and Sprite 3G, Minute Maid Pulpy Orange, Minute Maid

Pulpy Tropical, Minute Maid lemon, Kinley water and Splash. These finished products are

available in different stock keeping units (SKU).

These finished products are made by some raw materials, which are combined to make a finished

product. Different finished goods are formed by different Bill of Materials (BOM).

BOM’s consist of raw materials, production version, production quantity and quantity of material

used to manufacture a finished good.

I also observed that a single product is manufactured by different BOM’s in

different plant due to some constraints. Like 1000ml pet bottle is only

manufactured in Gujranwala Plant.

Sheikh Sami Ullah “Internship Report” Page 10

Page 11: Sheikh Sami Ullah (Internship Report)

There were almost more than 70types of finished products depending upon their size and

packing. Most of the finished goods are manufactured from different BOM’s even if the locality

is same.

We set the criteria that BOM’S which are not in use from last two years, or duplicate in nature

should be highlighted and to be discussed it with Planning and logistics department so that we

can decide the future of that particular BOM’s.

To work on this task we used SAP and its different transaction to extract the BOM’S, material

used in BOM’S and the quantity produced in each BOM’S. This task was very sensitive and was

time taking because further decision making regarding the production has to be done on this

extracted data.

Identification of redundant and in active BOM’s of Semi-finished (HALB)

goods from company’s SAP

All the above mentioned finished goods are made up of Semi- Finished goods. Semi-finished

products are also as important as finished products. Semi-finished products are also called raw

materials. These semi- finished products are also made by some raw materials, which are

combined to make a semi-finished product. Different semi- finished goods are formed by

different Bill of Materials (BOM).

BOM’s consist of raw materials, production version, production quantity and quantity of material

used to manufacture a semi-finished good.

Sheikh Sami Ullah “Internship Report” Page 11

Page 12: Sheikh Sami Ullah (Internship Report)

I also observed that a single product is manufactured by different BOM’s in different plant due to

some constraints. Like MMPO is only manufactured in Lahore Plant.

To work on this task we used SAP and its different transaction to extract the BOM’S, material

used in BOM’S and the quantity produced in each BOM’S. This task was very sensitive and was

time taking because further decision making regarding the production has to be done on this

extracted data.

Creation of PK MM authorization matrix and single roles

This task was done to align the record of CCBPL employees. About job roles, Role Description, Name, Employee ID in SAP HR, Employee ID in Active Directory, SAP ID and description.

This task was very important for the company because it has to follow the template provided by CCI.

Above mentioned information had to be aligned in such a way that each employee data is available without any discrepancies

Conclusion and recommendation to fellow students:

My personal evaluation for my internship is positive. I had the chance to work in one of the top

notch Beverage industry of the world.

I enjoyed working in the BSG department of the company because of dynamic processes and

high level of responsibility, where a student can get practical knowledge about the corporate

structure. Other benefits to be mentioned are gaining experience of SAP (supply chain) and

BASIS. Whereas I have also improved my I.T and Microsoft Excel skills

There is a learning atmosphere in the organizations, which is very helpful in the professional

grooming of students who really want to achieve some position or a status in their Career.

In the end I would suggest my university administration that they should recommend their

students for internship to the Coca-Cola beverages Pakistan ltd.
