Welcome The Crucible is 40 years old - and the celebrations start here!

Othello, Shakespeare’s psychological thriller brings two mighty actors, Clarke Peters and Dominic West, to the Crucible stage. At Christmas, Stephen Sondheim’s groundbreaking Company will explore the highs and lows of married life with joyful wit and an explosive sassiness.

In the Studio, in a co-production with Eclipse Theatre, we present the European première of the brilliantly funny One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show, whilst with Paines Plough, one of the UK’s pre-eminent new writing companies, we will produce three world premières by three British writers.

November sees the birthday celebrations in full swing with our new People’s Theatre performing on the Crucible stage for the fi rst time.

Meanwhile, the Lyceum offers a dynamic blend of music, dance, comedy and drama including Northern Ballet’s Hamlet, Mr Stink, Season’s Greetings and the devastating Journey’s End.

This is a special time for Sheffi eld Theatres and we hope you’ll join in the celebrations throughout the year.

Sheffi eld People’s Theatre will meet and rehearse regularly at the Crucible and the Lyceum. The debut performance for the company will be Lives In Art on the Crucible stage as part of the theatre’s 40th birthday.

Simon Callow (Waiting for Godot, Shakespeare in Love) is a virtuoso storyteller and returns to the Lyceum Theatre after The Man From Stratford in 2010 with two one-man plays by Charles Dickens.

In an absorbing theatrical event he tells the stories of Dr Marigold, a travelling salesman who adopts a little deaf and dumb girl and Mr Chops, a freak-show turn who wins the lottery and a place in society. Music in the Round’s Children’s Composer in Residence, Paul Rissmann, has written this imaginative and inspirational piece based on the children’s book, The Chimpanzees of Happytown by Giles Andreae, illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees and published by Orchard Books. With projections of the images from the book and lots of audience participation, this concert is ideal for engaging young children in high quality music, as well as fi ring up their imaginations.

Discounts and Concessions

All discounts and concessions are subject to availability. Sheffi eld Theatres reserves the right to add or remove discounts. Only one discount can be applied per ticket.

First Time Fridays – Tickets are available for 40p to fi rst time bookers. The Box Offi ce will check our database at the time of booking and confi rm ‘fi rst-time’ status i.e. no previous booking for the Crucible under the name and address of the booker. Bookings must be made by customers aged 16+. Tickets are limited to 40 per performance and are only available on Friday performances of Sheffi eld Theatres Productions taking place in the Crucible Theatre from 1 September 2011 – 1 September 2012. Customers can book for more than one production in one transaction, but are limited to 2 tickets at 40p per production. Tickets are not available online. Only one discount applies per transaction. Tickets are not transferrable and cannot be re-sold. Tickets which have been privately re-sold will be cancelled. No refunds are offered once tickets are purchased. Please return unwanted tickets to the Box Offi ce for resale. 40p tickets are available until 6.00pm on the day prior to the performance.

£5.00 tickets for selected performances of Sheffi eld Theatres productions for 16-26 year olds (Subject to availability).
