Every Valley
Performance NotesBaroque in style, this piece works well with harpsichord or guitars. The flute accompanimentalso adds to the baroque feel. Because of the high vocal range of the verses, they are notintended for singing by the assembly but rather by a strong cantor or choir section. I suggestthat the harmony part for the refrain be added later in the song so that the arrangement canbuild in intensity.
Every Valley is ideal as a gathering song or closing song. The subject matter makes itappropriate for middle to later Advent, but also during the whole Christmas season, or anykind of celebration of hope.
This song was originally published by North American Liturgy Resources in the collectionNeither Silver Nor Gold; however, the two-flute arrangement is new and there is a slight textchange in the third verse.
