There is also low-key lighting, which conforms to the repertoire of elements used in the genre horror. The place is also abandoned adding to the theme and creating the sense of isolation. This is the exposition part of the trailer in freytag’s triangle.

24 seconds. The visceral pleasure is used as the point of view shot is shown through the eyes of a character, creating an enigma for the viewer becoming an intellectual puzzle, as they have to un-ravel whom the killer may be. There is also the sound of screaming from a girl, which is a typical representation with in a horror film as women are represented as innocent and vulnerable.

41 seconds. There is representation of a boy not being the ‘perfect’ young American boy we see on films. We see a close up of the boy showing to the audience the importance that the young boy must have on the narrative. This also creates enigma for the audience being as young boys are normally represented as innocent, this therefore makes them question who is the young boy? And why is such a young boy holding a knife?

45 seconds. The title ‘Halloween’ is shown, showing the product to the viewers. The connotation of this being that on Halloween night scary, frightening things occur, reassuring the audience that the film is a horror movie. The colour orange and the icon of a pumpkin also representing Halloween.

58 seconds. Music slows down at this point creating anticipation for the audience. Again low-key lighting is used creating a spooky affect. We do not see who the killer is and only see short flashes of his face. This once again creates enigma for the viewers as they are still anxious to who the killer is.

1.54. Girl falls down stairs screaming. Killer standing at the top of the stairs represents him as a more powerful character then the other characters as he is physically higher up then them. This would be the rising action in freytag’s pyramid, building to the climax. The low-key lighting and music creates suspense for the viewer as they are waiting for the climax. Also the long shot of the stairs creates an enigma for

viewers, as they are not fully aware of what they are looking for.

2.08. Representation is shown of women being vulnerable and in need of help. The male is represented as the dominant stronger sex and more aggressive.

2.26. This point in the trailer reaches the climax on freytag’s pyramid, as the ‘final girl is being chased by the killer creating anticipation for the viewer. Still leaving the viewer with the enigma of who the killer is.

2.31. The end of the trailer leaves the audience with a cliffhanger, as they are un aware whether the girl will survive. Another enigma for viewers. The ending shows the abandoned house as it did at the star creating esolution for the viewers - making them feel back to normality.
