Jim and Mary Ann Stevens
Founded in 1959, Shasta Miners & Prospectors Association is a non-profit organization that helps small-scale miners and pro-spectors while educating the public about mining. The Association offers gold-bearing claims that the members can enjoy using with full access and we hold monthly meetings that are open to the public.

A letter from our President, Diana Clayton
Dear Shasta Miners and Prospectors: I thank everyone for the cards, flow-
ers, emails and prayers. Gene is as good as new, almost . He
is on the mend.
Jeremy Tuggle , Shasta
Historical Society did a
great job talking about
some of the old mines in
the county. If you were-
n’t there you missed an excellent lesson in history.
This month as the result of many questions
regarding what methods can or cannot be used for
prospecting, Mike Abernathy and Dan Collier are
going to make a presentation regarding these ques-
tions. This will be a great opportunity for members
to get their questions answered about what’s legal
and what isn’t when prospecting for gold. .
We need volunteers for the Shasta Gem and Miner-
al Show on Oct. 8.
Next month look forward to an article by Mike
Russell regarding the Mining Districts and which of
our claims belong to what district and who can at-
tend these meetings.
Although we lost the Rhinehart Case, there is a
solution according to the ICMJ’s Mining journal
and it is in organizing the mining districts. More
about this can be found at

August Metal Detector Outing Summer arrived with a bang and the hot weather is limiting the time detectors can spend in comfort plying their hobby. The early morning hours are the best for going out and staying hydrated is a necessity. A shout out to Diana Clayton and all participants in the planning and coordination of the Annual Outing at Douglas City Campground. The event was great success and despite the traffic conditions on highway 299, and the hot weather, a good time was had by all. The August Outing for detecting was be held at the Club’s Picnic on Saturday, August 20th, at Anderson River Park and great prizes were awarded to those that found the lucky coins. It is my duty to report that following the picnic, metal detecting in the lawn areas at Anderson River Park will be prohib-ited due to unfilled holes left by metal detecting persons. It is unfortunate that because of a few careless persons that do not follow the basic rules of detecting, that the many must suffer the consequences of such carelessness. The Club is planning on resolving this problem by initiating certain guidelines that members shall adhere to, and viola-tions of these rules may result in punitive actions such as fines or expulsions from the club. Until the next meeting, stay hydrated, and keep swinging those detectors. Next outing will be at Grant’s school. Bill
Hello fellow miners, Did we have a great day at our annual picnic? I know I did, I especially liked the part where no one found the Gold, and you call yourselves gold miners! I know we all had a great time. I'm looking forward to more adventures in the coming months. We will talk more at the meeting. There has been a big change on what we can do on OUR public lands as miners. Have a great day! We will see you at the meeting in September. Michael Abernathy claims chairman Outing is scheduled for Bulldog 2 at 9 A.M. Sat. Sept 17. Hear more about this at meeting. Be sure to contact Ray Mills at 739-2973 to get on his list for prospecting for gold with a metal detector. He will only take 5 people at a time for his outings .
Hello Fellow Miners,
Well now it is September and we will be asking for help on a nominating committee for the upcoming
elections. We are also working on the Christmas party mailings and raffle prizes, if you have any ideas on what
1st and 2nd prizes should be please let Diana or me (Donna) know so that we can work on getting the raffle tick-
ets printed. It is finally starting to cool off a little bit and fall will soon be here. I want to wish all who have
been or are still under the weather a speedy recovery. Hope to see you all at the September 15d meeting. I am
looking for a volunteer to take over the membership chair, please let me know or call Diana.
