AGENDA
Joy Fuchs and Jane Peterson were

out soon. Council commended the
committee for their excellent and
dedicated work.

A landscaping quote was accepted
from Sebastian’s Lawn &

flower beds and trim shrubs. New
mulch will also be put down. The
council also asked if he can check
the sprinkler heads before any new
planting is done.
The Republic Services dumpster
has not been picked up. They say
they will not pick it up until
outstanding balance is paid even
though it’s not being used.
Negotiations are underway to get
this resolved as soon as possible.
The semi-annual congregational
meeting date has been set for July
23, 2017 immediately following
church. At that time the new bid
for High Definition cameras will
be voted on. Also congregational
approval is needed to begin the
first phase of the cemetery project.
There being no further discussion
or business, the meeting was
adjourned by Carol Gaskamp.
The committee closed with The
Lord’s Prayer.
Respectfully submitted, Margo Teegardin, Secretary
On behalf of Lauren & Zach,
from our family to yours, we
want to thank everyone who has
been helping with care, making
visits, sending prayers and
words of encouragement to get
us through these hard days. We
are blessed to be a part of God’s
extended family at Zion making
a difference with what is really
needed during times like this.
We all need help at some time
in our lives.
Thanks also for the noisy
offering directed to help
Lauren’s fight against cancer.
Each Sunday as the children of
Zion energetically help collect
our offerings, we see our own
children again carrying out
God’s wishes to help others.
Only God knows exactly what
our future holds, so every day
we should be thankful for what
we have been given and carry
out our lives accordingly.
As you have prayed for us, we
pray for you also in the name of
Jesus Christ our Lord.

“As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no
longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of
you are one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:27-28
This year we tried something new at Zion in our “friendly” competition for Mothers and Fathers Day,
in trying to see who could fill the pews and sing the loudest. It was a fun competition and I certainly
loved parading the trophy around during announcements like one of the Price is Right girls, but it
made me realize that being the church is not a “we” and “them” concept, but an us.
As much as I would like to uplift the winner of the competition, I can’t. The way see it, in Christ we
are all winners. It takes the whole church to participate and if it was up to just the males or females to
bring on the win, it would be impossible. We are in this together!
It is this point that Paul is getting at in his letter to the Galatians. We are the body of Christ and as the
body we are one. Even though we come to this oneness with various gifts, we are one. God’s love is
freely given to all.
All too often in older congregations, where there are generations of family connections, there are
some who have the mind set that it is their church and there is a definite sense of an “us” and “them”
mentality. In these situations it becomes very difficult for that church to be a welcoming church,
because there is division between the people.
One of the great attributes about Zion is that there is more of an “us” feeling here. Despite being a
family church where there are families that go way back, there is not much of a distinguished division
between the “us” and “them.” This was seen in our friendly competition because on both Sundays, I
sensed support from the other side. On Mother’s Day, the men were singing loudly, as well as on
Father’s Day the women were singing just as loud. You were lifting each other up! You displayed
what it meant to be one in Christ! In my book, you all are winners!
It is this understanding of oneness in Christ that will grow the church. As for Zion, I see a bright
future as you move forward in this time of transition and discerning where God is leading you.
In God’s peace and love,
Pastor Jill
Hey gang, just a short note this month. As of newsletter deadline time, the Zion Youth Mission Team and I are still in California.
They are definitely keeping us busy with all the projects that are scheduled.
Since I am out of the office with the youth for most of this month, I will catch-up with my newsletter items in August.
Keep us all in your prayers and we will see you when we return.
Cindy Lyles Youth Director
Teaching preschoolers and children has many immediate rewards through hugs
and loving words, but it also can be very hard work. It is one of the less visible
or glamorous ways to serve in the church, and therefore can be overlooked
when it comes to expressing appreciation.
Most teachers would agree they do not serve for recognition-but it is nice when
someone remembers them and how they serve and what they do. We would like
to take this opportunity to show our love and special recognition this month to
all of our Sunday school teachers and their support staff. For a job well done,
may all God’s blessings be showered upon each of you.
Questions: 1. What was the name of Jesus’ mother? 2. What was the name of the garden where Adam & Eve lived? 3. With what food did Jesus feed 5,000 people? 4. What method did the Romans use to kill Jesus? 5. From which part of Adam’s body did God create Eve?
(Too Easy? Don’t worry, they’ll get a little more difficult each month)
1. Mary (Matt 1:18) 2. Garden of Eden (Gen 2:8) 3. Loaves of bread & fishes Matt 14:19) 4. Crucifixion (Mark 15:25) 5. Rib (Gen 2:21)
