Dear friends,

During this Easter season, we are called to rejoice in the glory of the Resurrection, in our Lord’s triumph over sin and death, and the gift on new life that He brings us. The various Preface prayers of the Mass during the Easter season conclude by saying: “Therefore, overcome with paschal joy, every land, every people exults in your praise...” So, how is your spiritual joy during this Easter season?

Sometimes joy can seem very difficult to grasp in our lives. In the previous newsletters, I’ve written about love, mercy, and trust, and in some ways perhaps these all seem more tangible, but joy can seem fleeting. Too often we identify joy with a sense of overall happiness or contentment, but true spiritual joy comes from God, and is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. Spiritual joy can be lived even in the midst of emotional, physical or spiritual trials and suffering. St. Paul wrote the above words to the Philippians while he was suffering in prison, yet this letter is full of his most beautiful words of hope and joy.

Spiritual joy comes from rejoicing in the Lord. It is not a sense of contentment that all is right in the world, or a feeling of happiness that everything is good in my life. Spiritual joy comes from lifting up our minds and hearts to the Lord, even in the midst of our greatest difficulties. We rejoice in Him because we know He is near, and because despite everything we know we are loved. When we focus on God’s goodness and glory in the world, there is always reason to rejoice. Queridos amigos,

Durante este tiempo de Pascua, estamos llamados a regocijarse en la gloria de la Resurrección, en el triunfo de nuestro Señor sobre el pecado y la muerte, y en el don de vida nueva que nos trae. Las oraciones del Prefacio de la Misa durante este tiempo Pascual concluyen diciendo: "Por eso, con esta efusión de gozo pascual, el mundo entero se desborda de alegría..." Entonces, ¿cómo es su gozo espiritual durante este tiempo de Pascua?

A veces la alegría puede parecer muy difícil de captar en nuestras vidas. En los boletines anteriores, he escrito sobre el amor, la misericordia y la confianza, y tal vez estos parecen más tangibles, pero la alegría puede ser fugaz. A veces identificamos la alegría con una sensación de felicidad o contento, pero la verdadera alegría espiritual viene solo de Dios y es uno de los frutos del Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas. El gozo espiritual se puede vivir aún en medio del sufrimiento, pruebas emocionales, físicas o espirituales. San Pablo escribió su carta a los Filipenses mientras él estaba sufriendo en la cárcel, sin embargo, esta carta está llena de palabras muy bellas de esperanza y alegría. Gozo espiritual viene de regocijarse en el Señor. No es una sensación de estar contento, y que todo tiene razón en el mundo, ni una sensación de felicidad, pensando que todo es bueno en la vida.

El gozo espiritual viene cuando levantemos nuestras mentes y corazones hacia el Señor, aun en medio de las dificultades profundas. Nos regocijamos en él porque sabemos que él está cerca, y porque a pesar de todo sabemos que somos amados. The Light to the Nations prayer group meets each Monday evening at 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Church Conference Room. You are invited to come and pray with us. We pray, sing and praise God through His Son Jesus Christ in thanksgiving for all the blessings bestowed on us,

our families and friends while lifting up our personal petitions. Scriptures state where "one or two are gathered in my name, there am I......" Yes few numbers are powerful, but if you were there even occasionally how much more power would go forth. Prayer is important AND necessary. Call Jana Wilson for more information, 663-9170.

You are invited to pray the Patriotic Rosary for America in the Mercy Chapel each Friday at 3:00 p.m. with friends and fellow parishioners. I am certain that everyone is aware of 2016 being an election year. A very important one. As a matter of fact America's true future is at stake. You may wonder how important your actions may become. That is where our prayers come into the picture, It is important for us to pray that God will send good leadership, and give us the wisdom to realize this and the courage to vote. Rummage Sale - Coming this Fall!

Parish Rummage Sale October 7, 8 & 9 - Don't Miss the FUN!

The annual parish rummage sale will be held the second weekend in October, so start looking around for things you'd like to donate! During August and September, items may be dropped off at the gym door after all weekend

Masses. You may also call for pick-up of items from your home. Much help will be needed in the weeks before the sale, to sort, display and price all the treasures, so they

will be ready for their next owner! This is a good way to practice stewardship of the gifts God has given us -- we will help others find needed items, while we help ourselves to live more simply! Plus, it's a lot of fun to work on this fundraiser project with your parish family! For more info,

Desde el escritorio de María,

Nuevamente saludándoles con el afecto de siempre y el gozo de la resurrección del señor, deseando que hayan encontrado, paz, armonía, y que aun conserven el aroma de la noche gloriosa del triunfo del Señor.

Desde muy pequeña, he tenido la oportunidad de vivir los días de cuaresma, durante los años que viví en país México y actualmente en este país, gracias a mi madre que se esmeró por enseñarnos este tiempo del año litúrgico, como celebrar la Semana Santa, desde niña aprendí sobre la abstinencia, tiempo de ayuno, no solamente de no comer carne o ciertos alimentos, sino que de no hacer uso de ciertas cosas con las que pudiéramos ofender al Señor, por ejemplo: no televisión, no radio, no trabajo, etc., esos días eran para hacer oración en familia en casa y para asistir a los servicios que la Iglesia ofrecía durante ese tiempo, como el Triduo Pascual, empezando el jueves Santo con la celebración del lavado de los pies, después visitar los siete altares en diferentes Iglesias, y colectando reliquias en cada altar, como pan bendito, uvas, estampillas, escapularios, rosarios, etc. Viernes Santo, un día de luto, de ayuno, y silencio a las tres de la tarde toda la familia rezábamos y más tarde nos íbamos al templo del Carmen donde iniciaba la procesión del Silencio, una gran multitud nos congregábamos para acompañar a la Virgen Dolorosa, todos en silencio por las calles de la ciudad caminando, siguiendo su imagen y al golpe de un tambor que pregonaba el dolor de una madre al perder a su Hijo, y así continuando con el silencio todo el sábado, hasta media noche, cuando acudíamos a la misa de Gloria, al regresar de misa volvíamos con alegría porque el Señor había resucitado y ya podíamos hablar. A El, la Gloria y el poder por los siglos, amen.

Happy Easter, I greet you all with affection and joy of the resurrection of the Lord, wishing that you have found peace, harmony, and happiness, and still retain the aroma of the triumphal and glorious night of the Lord. To Him be Glory and praise.

Since I was little I have had the opportunity to live the days of Lent, in my country of Mexico and now in this country, thanks to my mother who taught me about this time of the liturgical year, to celebrate Lent, since then I learned about abstinence, time of fasting, not only no to eat meat or certain foods, but not use other things that could offend God, for example: no television, no radio, no work. Those days were for family prayer at home and also to attend Church services

offered during this time: as a Holy Thursday, to attend the celebration of the washing of the feet, and later we visited the seven altars in different churches, collecting relics on each altar, such as blessed bread, grapes, prayer cards, scapulars, rosaries, etc. On Holy Friday, day of mourning and fasting, all was silent. At three in the afternoon the whole family prayed, and later we went to the Temple, where we processed in silent with a large

crowd accompanying the Virgin of Sorrows. All were silent through the streets of the city on foot following her image, and the beat of a drum proclaiming the pain of a mother losing her son. Quietly continuing all day Saturday until midnight, where we attended the Mass of Glory. Upon from Mass we came with joy because the Lord had risen and we could already talk. To Him be Glory and Power for eve and ever, amen.

FRIDAY MORNING GATHERING—SENIOR MOMENTS

Come get acquainted and join your parish sisters/brothers on Friday mornings for the 8:00 a.m.

Holy Mass. We pray the rosary after the Mass, then adjourn to the social room to fold the

Church bulletins for the weekend Mass. Then, we fellowship with coffee/refreshments and

learn what is going on around us. A great time is had by all in attendance. Need more informa-

I can’t believe that summer is almost here! It has been a busy time for our youth here at Good Counsel! On Mon-day, May 2 we had Confirmation. It was such a blessing, after two years of for-mation, to have the day finally arrive. Bishop Taylor spoke to the teens about the challenges they will face after Con-firmation because the world does not hold the same values that we do. So many times confirmation is seen as a type of “graduation”, as the end of the journey of learning about the faith; however that is not what Confirmation is. Through receiving the Sacrament we are strengthened to live the life that Christ asks us to live. To defend our faith and stand up for what is right. This can be a reminder to all of us as adults: that is our calling too! Pray for our teens that were just confirmed but also pray that all of us as Catholics live our confirma-tion every day. Thank you to all who helped make this Confirmation so beau-tiful and go so seamlessly. As we transi-tion into our summer schedule we have several trips that we are preparing for. On June 3rd Kristin and I will be travel-ing to Phoenix for the Catholic Youth Ministers Training Conference( CYMC), it is a time blessing for us to be able to meet with other youth ministers from across the country and learn about dif-ferent aspects of ministry. It is a great

time of spiritual rejuvenation.

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS O Jesus, I pray

for Your faithful and fervent priests,

for Your unfaithful and tepid priests;

for Your priests laboring at home or

abroad in distant mission fields;

for Your tempted priests;

for Your lonely and desolate priests;

for Your young priests;

for Your dying priests;

for the souls of Your priests in purgatory.

But above all,

I recommend to You the priests dearest to me;

the priest who baptized me;

the priests who absolved me from my sins;

the priests at whose masses I

assisted and who gave me Your Body and

Blood in Holy Communion;

the priests who taught and instructed me;

all the priests to whom I am indebted in any

other way.

O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart,

and bless them abundantly in time and in

eternity.
