OCTOBER 2015
The Conductor’s Call:
“Ministry Sunday Morning VS The Rest of The Week”
I have noticed a recent change when it comes to the perceived role of
“The Church”. Not the actual role, Jesus was very clear, not even the gates
of Hell will prevail against the actual Church. But the perceived role has
changed for sure. There has been a kind of pendulum swing, away from
false notions of The Church, which is good, sort of. The problem is, instead
of swinging back to the correct view of The Church, many have simply
swung to another false notion of The Church.
Here are some examples of False Notions: attending church helps me earn
heaven. attending church is required for salvation. My church is the only
church that has saved people attending. The church is the building.
“Church” only happens on Sunday morning. The only place God blesses
people on Sunday morning is “in Church”. This is My Church.
There are many things that these views produce that can seem wonderful,
but they actually aren’t. For instance, some churches (they tend to be tradi-
tional denominations) have maintained good attendance over the years. But
it is largely because they preach that church attendance helps you earn favor
from God, is required to please God, and that you will receive some sort of
punishment for not attending. I used to attend a church that regularly taught
that. I do not believe this is the church that Jesus set up. However,
swinging the pendulum another wrong way seems to be more popular than
swinging it back to Jesus.
Some examples of “counter” false notions: Church attendance isn’t
important to God. Whatever I do on Sunday morning is okay with God.
God wants me to have the most fun possible with my family; therefore,
church is not for us. Church attendance has nothing to do with being a
Christian. Church is NOT the building, so as long as I pray wherever I am,
that’s “church”! Pass the Tailgate Hotdog In Jesus’ Name. . .
We tend to rationalize our behavior, to manipulate our view of God until it
fits that behavior. In reality, God does not change, and we are supposed to
conform our behavior to His desire.
Regarding the above topic, here is my opinion of where the pendulum
should rest: We come to church to worship the Lord, corporately, as one
body, like temple worship that Jesus participated in regularly when He said,
“I had to be in My Father’s House.” Church Attendance is the best value for
Sunday Morning I can teach my family, a world without church attendance
Please mark your calendars for

Family Fun Night November 1st— 5pm-8pm,
Starting in the DCC Fellowship Hall:
This year instead of a Kids Carnival during the day, we are going to have Bible
Characters Family Fun Night. It will be the day after Halloween, so everyone is
encouraged to dress up! But we would like all of the costumes to have a positive,
Biblical theme please. For example, Pastor Jim will be dressed like Jonah, in a
whale, as an exhibit for the kids to explore. We will also have a “Burning Bush”
similar to the one Moses encountered as an exhibit too. There will be a Cake
Walk, Group Games, and plenty of fun for the entire family. We will also be
receiving gifts for Operation Christmas Child. There will be dinner and snacks that will be served, with all
donations going to DCC Children’s Ministry. If you invite a friend, and please do, please let them know there
is no obligation to donate. For visitors, everything is free! If you would like to help with the logistics of
putting on this event, or would like to help with a group game or provide supplies, just let Virginia Martinez
or the Office know. Candy giveaways will be available as well, so if you would like to donate candy,
please drop it by the office during office hours. So mark your calendar and invite some friends,
November 1st, 5pm-8pm, DCC Fellowship Hall.

is not a better world. Church attendance teaches the concept of sacrificial living, sacrificing a time that could
be used like the world does, and showing the world a different use of that time. A better use!
Whatever you do Monday-Saturday, whether it is working hard to show your boss and fellow employees
how Christians work, sharing your faith, loving your family, serving others, or spending time alone studying
God’s word, praying, and meditating, evaluate your heart and consider it your worship, your act of service to
God. Once you leave your time of “The Fellowship” “The Assembly” “Meeting Together”,
Hebrews 10:25’s phrase for “church time” , your living sacrifice to God continues,
your personal ministry as a Christian begins.
I believe teaching and showing the faithful value of Church Attendance will never be regretted. If the world
devalues something, by doing something else, that should be your first clue to reevaluate your participation
with them. If Jesus valued something, personally, from the age of 12 on, it’s probably pretty important. Don’t
let the world redefine what Sunday Morning is supposed to look like, or the rest of the week for that matter.
Live like Jesus.
We started to work with Operation Christmas Child last year when we packed over 100 shoe
boxes to go to kids around the world. It was an exciting project and many have caught the vision
and have been working on acquiring items for the boxes throughout the year.
We packed 52 boxes at our Christmas in July event and we plan to pack at least that many more
at our October 24th potluck and packing party.
The adventure is going to get even more exciting though as we are going to be a relay station for
Operation Christmas Child this year. People will be coming from all over the area to drop off
their boxes. There will be lots of opportunities for volunteers at all different levels.
Chris and Darlene will share more with us about these opportunities. I want to just share a few dates with you so you can be
watching for these opportunities and planning to be involved on your level.
Oct. 4: Chris Franks will share his testimony about how they got started working with Operation Christmas Child and about the
mission of the program.
