Read Mark 1:14-20 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.” As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him. ————————————— Suggested Questions: Have you ever bought a product because it was sold really, really well? What was it about the sell that made it so good? Have you ever been a part of an organization that was really, really good at selling something? What made them so good? Look back over your past and think about these two questions: (If you’re in a Growth Group, go around in a circle and each person offer their answer.) “How did you become a Christian?” “Was there a person instrumental in your becoming Christian? Who was it? How did it happen?” Read Mark 1:14-20 again. This is the beginning of Jesus’ ministry and he’s building his leadership team (a.k.a. “The 12 Disciples”). Looking at this short story what are some things that you notice about how Jesus calls people? For example, what kind of “news” is Jesus proclaiming? What does Jesus say to Simon and Andrew about what will happen if they follow him? Is Jesus inviting to them to come to a building or is he inviting them to help build a vision? What’s the difference? And why might this be important? Have you ever shared your faith with someone else? If you’re in a group, can you share that story now? What are some reasons why you think people do not share their faith with others? Think about the following statement from: “Sharing our faith is a test of our faith, testing that this is faith is true not just for us but that it can be true for others. The point of sharing our faith is an expression of joy in our faith and it’s an expression of love for others because we want them to experience this joy too.” Talk about this statement in your group and explore how it resonates with you and others. In our Growth Groups we like to be about action and growth and we like to make progress in our faith, so here’s the question: 1) Will you consider sharing your faith with someone this week? 2) Will you commit to sharing this experience with your Growth Group the next time you meet?
