Remember the merry-go-round that was at Lincoln Park from 1921 until 1987? That historic carousel is now a treasured Battleship Cove destination. Qualified walkers in SHARE’s largest fundraiser of the year will be able to ride for free as many times as they want from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Heritage State Park boasts many other attractions as well, and the area is full of fun places to go and see. Our walk route will stretch along the waterfront. Participants (and that includes our friends who use wheelchairs!) can choose to walk from the Carousel building to Heritage State Park, or keep going all the way to the Iwo Jima Memorial at the end of the boardwalk. It takes about 25 minutes to reach the memorial and is well worth the jaunt. Across the street from the Carousel is the Fall River Train Museum, and one block down the street is the Marine Museum. The big attraction, of course, is Battleship Cove. Located at 5 Water Street, the renowned tourist attraction has so much to offer, including the Battleship Massachusetts, the Destroyer Kennedy, the Lionfish submarine, a PT boat and more. Admission will be charged to tour the battleships. Here’s how you can be a part of it all. Registration runs from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Carousel building. Treat yourself to the ever-popular coffee and doughnuts courtesy of our supporter Towne Donuts, hang out with friends and make some new ones before we set out on our all-new adventure! We’ll step off at 10 a.m., crossing the footbridge to Heritage State Park. From there, walkers can choose to turn around at any point or continue all the way to the Iwo Jima Memorial. Our pizza party starts at 11:30 a.m., and as usual, there will be prizes, T-shirts, raffles and our wonderful assortment of donated gift certificates to local restaurants that you might win. A minimum of $50 must be raised in order to qualify. But you can’t win unless you register—here’s how!
