A. Students and Setting Students:
Ages 9-11 (3rd-4th grade), so far they have had 2 lesson per week at their schools for 8 months. All of the students are
on basic level of studying English.
Setting:
It is a after-school additional courses for children who (or whose parents) wish to have more of English studying
experience. There are 6 students in this class. The class meets 2 times per week for an hour. The classroom itself is
pretty large, all chairs and tables are movable. There are also a TV and couple laptops connected to the Internet.
B. Lesson Background: Previously we have studied Food module, so the students are able to recognize different kinds of food, name it,
describe it (shape, color, taste), and make recipes (we have had a little activity creating a recipes using a set of
ingredients). Since it is the end of our academic year and we have about 5 lessons left, I have decided to let students
to watch and discuss cartoons. This particular lesson we will watch The Gingerbread Man story, then we will practice
on re-telling the story. Each student will be saying what he remembered aloud for the whole class, and other
students task will be listening to speaking student and add something or correct him if needed. The teacher will be
monitoring the students speaking, giving on-spot feedback. At the end of the lesson the students and the teacher will
give formative assessment to each students in the class, and then little pictures of the Sun, Star, Moon, or Cloud
(Very Good, Good, Average, Need to Work) will be put on our Board of Progress. Next lesson we will be re-writing
this story by changing some things in it and reading it aloud.
C. Learning Objectives/Expected Results: By the end of this lesson the students will be able to improve their listening and speaking skills. They will be able to
re-tell a little story after being introduced to it this develops memorization, ability to speak and listen to the story and
to other students. Also they are required to give an assessment to each other this will give them a chance to find
out if they can notice mistakes and correct them and see what they might be doing wrong and correct themselves.
D. Materials and Sources: Materials
The students will be given scrape paper to take notes while watching the story.
A ball used in recall activity was bought at the beginning of the year.

E. Procedures / Timing: List step-by-step what you will do in class, and what you expect the students to do. Your lesson should be about 40-

60 minutes long. There should be a good balance between teacher talk and student activity. Make sure that you are
using integrated skills in your lesson plan. You will need to use alternative assessment as well, which you will
describe in F. Alternative Assessment below.

F. Alternative Assessment: The teacher will take notes of each students performance, paying attention to students speech, vocab, and pronunciation. If there are students who need more practice or help, the teacher will make sure to work with these students separately. In addition, there is peer-evaluation taking place too. G. Reflection Phase 1: Describe how this lesson demonstrates the use of integrated skills and alternative assessment. Also discuss why this lesson is appropriate for the age/grade and proficiency level of the students you are targeting.
This lesson demonstrates listening and speaking skills, vocabulary and basic grammar integrated (when the students listen, watch, and speak). Alternative assessment is used by teacher (performance assessment) and the students (peer-evaluation). This lesson is appropriate for the age group and their proficiency lever since stories and fairytales are widely used to teach them not only in English class the students enjoy reading stories and watching cartoons. Also they have had an academic year of studying English so they can understand
