A new era of business reinvention is dawning. Organizations are facing an unprecedented convergence of technological, social and regulatory forces. As artificial intelligence (AI), automation, Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain and 5G become pervasive; their combined impact will reshape standard business architectures. The “outside-in” digital transformation of the past decade is giving way to the “inside-out” potential of data exploited with these exponential technologies. Many organizations already experimented with AI and moved simple workloads to the cloud. Now, there is a new chapter opening, moving from experimentation to true transformation, with speed and scale.

CLOSING KEYNOTE: GEOPOLITICS, TECHNOLOGY, MEDIA AND THE STATE

5.45pm

Closing Keynote: Technology, Media, and the State

From the spinning jenny to self-driving cars, from the printing press to 5G, technology constantly changes the way we live. Whether 5G or Blockchain, IoT or AI, technology is supposed to be an elemental force transcending borders and solving humanity’s problems. The scientists who invented the atomic bomb had similar hopes. Our world system is bounded by national interests. The modern state arose alongside and because of modern technology. The media, whose primary purpose is to be the state’s critic, can create reality as easily as it can reveal human truth. In the post-World War II world, technology and media reigned over the state. That balance of power is now shifting. The state now seeks to use technology and media for its own purposes. Geopolitics is no longer simply the context in which we operate – it is the single biggest risk to our futures.

9.00am Opening Keynote: Cybersecurity in the Age of 5G

Countries across the world are racing towards the full implementation of 5G and the technology is set to become a reality within the next couple of years. As an entirely new network architecture, 5G will fundamentally change the way businesses operate and how they deliver experiences to their end users. With 5G, cutting edge innovations such as autonomous vehicles, remote manufacturing, virtual reality and telesurgery will become mainstream. This also means that Communication Service Providers (CSPs) will now be able to grow their revenue streams through the introduction of new value-added services made possible by 5G.

However, with an exponential increase in data transmitted across 5G networks, organizations relying on 5G will become increasingly vulnerable from attacks from increasingly sophisticated cybercriminals. In the race for 5G, what are some of the crucial focus areas that CSPs have to bear in mind as they implement this new technology?

DIGITAL ENTERPRISE & WORKPLACE TRANSFORMATION

1.30pm The Advent of Workplace Experience: Avoiding Silos In Your Digitisation Strategy

Organisations must assess and consider leveraging their whole ‘ecosystem’ when embarking on a digital transformation journey. As a starting point, this includes identifying who within the organization is best placed to lead the digital transformation and the disruption it will bring to the organisations business as usual and its stakeholders.

Yet, further analysis of the stakeholder landscape should not just include the organizations internal stakeholders, but also business partners, customers, legislators and even competitors.A strategic stakeholder approach supported by modern change management practices to identify and address the needs, fears and capabilities of all the organisations stakeholders is a necessity to avoid silos and harness all available leverage for an organization as it undertakes a digital transformation journey.

THE EDGE, CONNECTED CLOUD

4.10pm Panel Discussion: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Are You Ready To Move to Multi-cloud?

Enterprises are used to having multiple suppliers; in a cloud context that makes engineering, security and operations more complex, introduces risk and often reduces the opportunity to get volume discounts. Inevitably, multi-cloud is nearly always more expensive. But how do we choose the right vendor(s) since they all provide different services and what criteria should we use to define the preferred one or two providers? Is cloud arbitrage a myth? Clients have spent millions building cloud broker layers, to move workloads between cloud providers, but this approach loses a lot of cloud benefits and increases complexity. Also, what are some of the cloud best practices? Cloud providers are innovating at an accelerated pace such that industry best practices change regularly. How do businesses keep up with that? Finally, talent. Do we have a team for each cloud application or do we get teams to manage and work across multiple clouds?

4.50pm Coding for Success: Open Source Software (OSS) and IP Considerations

From IoT to education, virtually every industry is impacted by the adoption of cloud computing. At the heart of unfettered cloud innovation lies open source and an agile developer community. Experts believe open source will fuel disruption and shape the future of cloud computing, with multiple tools such as Eucalyptus, OpenNebula and Linux already available.

Against the backdrop of a complex and quickly evolving open source and cloud computing universe, the need to protect digital creations through Intellectual Property (IP) has become critical. The patent litigation on cloud technologies has been increasing by 700% over the past four years; innovators must consider smart strategies to mitigate IPR risks.

This session discusses how cloud computing and open source are leading digital transformation and provides insights on how to protect and promote success by leveraging IP in a simple way.

Over half our world’s population lives in cities today and their rapid growths suggest they will become even greater economic powers. There are increasingly more complex demands on critical infrastructure, policy makers, educators, and industry leaders across global cities. Competition intensifies as leaders position their cities as ideal places to live, learn, work, and invest – while being mindful to respond to technological shifts to succeed.

Identifying the set of governing criteria becomes critical to move the success needle and tap on the opportunities amongst the many vulnerabilities exposed to the leading cities in the face of technological disruptions. Today, we’ll look across Asia: which future city is winning? What is the city readiness for embracing the opportunities and managing the challenges of AI? And which ‘sleeper’ cities should current leaders be looking out for?

3.40pm Digging Deeper on Cybersecurity: Securing the Expanding Cloud Footprint

As enterprises rapidly adopt cloud computing, new security vulnerabilities emerge and need to beaddressed. Often, enterprises have multiple point security solutions for different types oftechnology. But, the world of hybrid multi-cloud environments requires a more robust andintegrated approach to cybersecurity. This presentation will discuss cybersecurity challengescreated by cloud migration and focus on ways in which enterprises can secure their clouds.

Andrew Milroy, Head of Advisory Services, Asia Pacific, OVUM

4.00pm Protecting CIIs via Detection-less Paradigm

Today’s cyber landscape is radically different from the past’s. Advanced threats are stealthy and lethal. They are difficult to detect. Unfortunately, cyber protection technologies continue to progress in a detection-oriented framework. It is therefore not uncommon for malicious codes to reside in a CIIs or enterprises and stay undetected for hundreds of days, exfiltrating data in complete silence. Traditional methods are no longer working. Detect nothing does not mean it is safe, a detection-less strategy is imminently needed. This sharing session focuses on addressing the common gaps in today’s cyber protection strategies collectively and offers the thought leadership to fill these gaps from a highly operational, practitioner’s perspective.

Ken Soh, CEO, Athena Dynamics

4.20pm Securing the Future Enterprise Today: “Build Pervasive Cyber Resilience Now”

With the proliferation of more and more sensitive data, expanding connectivity, and the adoption of automated processes, new research reveals that C-suite and IT decision makers need to embrace a different approach to cybersecurity to effectively protect against future cyber risks. While most companies have a chief information security officer (CISO) or assigned cybersecurity to a C-suite executive, such as a chief information officer (CIO), often, these leaders have limited influence on cybersecurity strategy outside their departments. Additionally, nearly half of CISOs acknowledge that their responsibilities for securing the organization are growing faster than their ability to address security issues. This session will highlight the struggle to prioritise cybersecurity being one of the main agendas for an organisation and how the shift in responsibility and accountability from top-down to the individual business units will impact future operations and productivity.

Wayne Dennis, Security Lead, Accenture

4.40pm Eventually, Everyone will be Breached

This session will discuss about how and why businesses should be designed in a “built to be breached” form - Why and how should governments and organizations should design their IT and business infrastructure not only for prevention of a data breach, but also to be able to be resilient during and after a data breach.

Guy M. Segal, General Manager, Custodio Technologies

5.00pm Looking Beyond the Perimeter: An Immune System for Smart and Digital Environments

As organisations and nations alike rush to adopt internet-connected devices and smart sensors, defending these advancements becomes a monumental challenge.

For all IoT’s convenience and appeal, the race to innovate is leaving security behind. IoT adoption provides hidden inroads to sensitive data, and broadens the attack surface for cyber criminals and nation states. As this proliferation accelerates with smart cities and 5G, AI driven cyber-attacks, the effects of IoT hacks will no longer be restricted to cyberspace.

AI can look across all digital activity in real time, and understand what’s normal, to help defend against these complex digital environments. With AI-powered defences, organisations can develop their own self-healing digital ecosystems to detect and fight back against novel threats, regardless of origin, before they cause serious damage.

DEEP LEARNING, AI, AND ROBOTICS

9.00am Session Keynote: How AI will Disrupt Today’s Innovation Practices

Innovation offices and teams need innovation. Practices like Design Thinking have reached a plateau. Corporate innovators are challenged by the speed and complexity of technical change and AI is moving faster than a speeding bullet. Thus, AI exploitation is not understood by most enterprises. This talk will highlight how AI is poorly understood and how it is under appreciated. Due to its inherent cognitive automation, AI is a powerful general purpose tool that can drive new R&D, make discoveries and execute product rollouts faster than humans, besides replacing human diligence. The effects of AI are more potent than we could imagine.

Despite the rich opportunities, most corporate technical leadership are not able to efficiently manage Big Data and they struggle to deploy advanced Deep Learning AI systems e.g. those that could comprehend text and images to save on manpower costs, derive insights and could hence step up the automation of innovation delivery. Unsurprisingly, AI projects are often failing. Although, there are also some successful ones, what works today, may not work tomorrow. Bleak as it sounds, a few companies will eventually master AI, transforming innovation to be a less mysterious and much cheaper process. These will be the first movers in the AI First economy and this is unfolding as we speak.

11.30am AI Demystified: Case Study

At its core, artificial intelligence analyzes data to support informed decisions and predictions. However, its ability to do things faster, more efficiently and more precisely than humans has caused it to become sensationalized and mysterious. This session will explain not only its vast capabilities but also its limitations. Learn why good design principles must underpin AI development so that artificial intelligence and human intelligence can work together for maximum benefit, and so AI can be appropriately regulated. Most applications of AI will require specific guidelines, to prevent regulation from being either be too general to have effect, or too strong so that it slows or prevents AI adoption. Dr. Sun will leave the audience with some ideas of what we can expect from AI, and why it will neither make the world perfect nor destroy it, butrather help us to continuously move forward, with much left to be explored and discovered.

11.20am From the Core to the Edge – Optimising and Unlocking Full Potential of 5G

For 5G telco operators need to address a number of challenges associated with cost-efficient network deployment that scale. A key enabler of efficient 5G deployment is underlying universal compute infrastructure spanning from core to the very edge of a network. To fulfill edge compute infrastructure should have the following properties:• Universal general purpose compute resources that are available from edge to core and exposed in consistent way throughout whole network• At the edge of networks, general purpose compute platforms should be optimized for new unique requirements to operate outside of datacenters (tough operational conditions, limited footprint, non-secure environments)• General purpose compute platforms should support consistent mechanisms of deploying and managing the infrastructure both at edge locations and in datacenters

This session will summarise requirements, challenges in deploying network virtualisation.

1.30pm The Open Edge: Delivering Web scale Performance at the Edge

Network edge is becoming the new frontier for both data center operators and telecommunications service providers as the demand grows to onboard more users, deliver enhanced experiences and increase webscale performance for data transport. The pressing question isn’t how to transform the network but rather how to deliver end user performance at low cost per bit and improve differentiated service offerings. This is where Open Networking offers great potential by opening up the edge at low cost per bit while enabling operators to create differentiated services and deliver end user performance on demand. This is the world of Open Edge.

2.00pm SDN, NFV and the Asian Telcos: Attitudes and Projections

Telcos were largely responsible for the furthering of SDN and NFV technologies. At the same time telcos are also skeptical about what SDN and NFV means to them. Lack of product maturity, inability of vendors to show real cost savings, piecemeal approach towards product development and fear of the unknown are the main reasons for telcos to be cautious.

Barring exceptions, Asian telcos by-and-large, are playing it safe with SDN and NFV. The advent of 5G will however force Asian telcos to take sides and firmly commit themselves to the new ways of network design. 5G will make it impractical to accommodate the diverse user profiles with conventional network planning, design and operations. SDN use-cases such as network slicing which are aided considerably by vEPC and vRAN are pivotal for 5G operations. As a result, we now witness examples of successful adoption of SDN and NFV in their existing 4G networks.
