    Describe the real, sentimental and varied Shanghai you have seen.

    Everyday see old china and new china mixing

    Ex- old shanghai people with the shuiguodians/street food stalls &new shanghai with H&m, Haagen Daas, and Forever 21s developingon Nanjing dong lu

    See old architecture and temples for older days in shanghai such asthe Jade Buddha Temple, Longhua temple. The bund and itsarchitecture.

    Differences between younger generations and older generations ofShanghainese people. Younger people embrace western culture and

    modern practices. Older generation Shanghainese seem to avoidwestern developed places such as downtown.

    The Shanghainese youth have a tendency to be prone to numerousdisplays of public affection that make for awkward situationsespecially I the subways.

    A sense of urgency

    Some people have the tendency of displaying their wealth

    through material possessions e.g. Seem to be very hardworking and driven

    More focused on family relationships as opposed to otherexternal relationships

    Intense competition between younger generations tosucceed in their educations, and make their families proud.

    Spoilt children, a result of the population control of onechild policy.

    Wide income gap between the rich and poor

    Identity Crisis

    Unhappy People

    Sheltered maybe a result of the government

    Overall, a young developing city Its easy to forget that the rest of China is not

    like Shanghai

    Boston

    Boston has old historical significance whileShanghai seems to have very little history.

    Shanghais new development hasnt given the

    Shanghainese an identity Boston has mix of different heritages, Shanghai is

    becoming a mix of American, Chinese, andEuropean customs.

    Boston is more unified as a city than Shanghai,Shanghai has a division between the Shanghaipeople and foreign population.

    Lagos

    Similar situation of both cities being a place wheredreams can come true.

    A similar sense of urgency and some desperationwithin the lower classes and even the middle class

    Similar situations of corruption in business andgovernment

    Lagosians overall seem to be more knowledgeableabout international affairs, a little less sheltered than

    the Shanghainese are. Both central business locations with access to ports

    that facilitate trade.

    Very large gap between the poor and the rich.
