Description The Hackathon Competition aims to encourage full-time university students (undergraduates or postgraduates)2 to develop innovative solutions to enhance banking experience and solve real business problems. You can choose more than one of the following themes to work on:

Remarks: 1. Competition Details• To submit an entry to the competition, all teams are required to provide: 1. a completed submission form 2. basic information of their team members 3. (Optional) a detailed explanation of their innovative solution/idea (in PowerPoint format or video demo)• The Organizers reserve the right to use, display, exhibit, collect, and/or publish any of the PowerPoints and/or videos (whether in whole or in part) submitted for promotional purposes for free. The Organizers may take photos and/or films in the Regional Competition and/or the Grand Final for their publication.• Selected teams will enter the Regional Competition in Hong Kong, which will be held on 4 November 2017.• The Organizers may disqualify any teams if there is any infringement of intellectual property rights or any breach of the rules as may be set out by the Organizers.• Selected teams are required to give a live presentation of their innovation during the Regional Competition in Hong Kong. Coding is not required in this phase.• Three winning teams will be selected from the Regional Competition to represent Hong Kong in the Grand Final in Shanghai (flight tickets, accommodation and travel expenses will be provided for the winning teams) and compete with the finalists from Mainland China and Taiwan. They will be notified by email in late October 2017.• IBM will provide training to the selected teams for developing apps on IBM Bluemix platform. • During the Grand Final, all teams will be required to present their ideas and demonstrate their innovation.• The Grand Final is scheduled on 2 December 2017 in Shanghai.• Team members are responsible for applying for the necessary travelling documents on their own. Also, they should make the necessary scheduling arrangements.• In case of any dispute regarding the selection of teams to enter the Regional Competition or the Grand Final, or regarding any issue related to the Hackathon, the decision of the Organizers shall be final.

2. Entry Requirements• Full-time student teams (undergraduates or postgraduates) from recognized tertiary institutions in Hong Kong.• A team of 2-5 members.

3. Hackathon Themes 1. Social Finance. Use social media networks and smart mobile terminals to create a social media + financial services ecosystem based on existing financial products, introduce social concepts, and link with social media platforms, travel industry and e-commerce. 2. Digital Finance. Develop diversified, customised and precise financial product innovations by analysing and processing a large amount of data using Big Data technology to achieve real-time, portable and mobile financial services. 3. Financial Inclusion. Promote the creation of an inclusive financial system for a harmonious society by ensuring effective and comprehensive provision of equal financial services for any social groups using the bank’s products and technologies. 4. Blockchain. Resolve technical challenges faced by financial activities using secured, transparent, non-tamperable and easy-to-track blockchain technologies. 5. Artificial Intelligence. Integrate machine learning, intelligent reasoning, speech recognition, text recognition, image recognition, emotional analysis, voice activated systems or other artificial intelligence in current financial services to improve customer services. 6. Internet of Things. Achieve automated and intelligent financial services using Internet of Things technologies to bring financial innovations into the physical world and create a new generation of financial services and business models.
