John Shakespeare marries Mary Arden.

Mary was a land-owner.

She inherited her father's farm the year before her marriage.

April 1564

Shakespeare is born, the third of eight children.

He is the eldest surviving son.

Shakespeare attended the local Grammar School aged 8 years old.

King Edward VI started the Grammar School.

He wanted to provide free education for all of the town's boys.

Young Shakespeare was taught Latin and Greek.

He studied the great classical authors and dramatists.

We think Shakespeare was in school until 15 years old.

Shakespeare marries Anne Hathaway, a local farmer's daughter.

Shakespeares's first child, Susanna, is born.

She is baptised on 26th May 1583.

1585

Shakespeare's twins, Hament and Judith, are born.

They are baptised on 2nd February 1585.

Shakespeare's only son Hament dies aged 11 years old.

Hament is buried on 11th August 1596.

Shakespeare buys New Place, the largest house in Stratford.

He pays about £120.

Shakespeare's father John Shakespeare dies.

Shakespeare's daughter Susanna marries John Hall.

They marry on 5th June 1607 in Holy Trinity Church.

They live at Hall's Croft until the death of William Shakespeare.

They move into New Place.

Shakespeare's mother Mary dies.
