Well, Hong Kong… It’s been a very interesting year for our city both politically and artistically. I can’t say that this year’s festival has been easy. When someone tells you the first year is the hardest year for a festival… they lied. The second year of Shakespeare in the Port has been full of many wonderful surprises and challenges. We created our first touring production and got to tour local schools and Malaysia, thanks to our partners at Third Culture and Air Asia. We were blessed to have local businesses like PhatRice and Arts Futures support us and help us promote our vision of affordable, accessible art. We got to move the festival forward by diversifying and presenting Shakespeare in two languages. (Something we wanted to do last year but were unable to do…) We faced many growing pains this year. Funding issues, lack of government support and language barriers. We pushed through and helped sustain our vision of locally sustainable, grassroots festival, 100% supported by the local art community. I want to thank my team for their hard work, sacrifice and sleepless nights. My friends and fans for their continual support. Fringebackers for being our funding platform once again and every media person who took the time to listen to us and consider writing about us. Special thanks to my directors and designers who have been working on the project since the beginning and our volunteers, who make the festival possible. Art is about community and we are proud to a member of Hong Kong’s ever evolving melting pot of artists. There’s a preconception that Hong Kong is a cultural wasteland. That nothing happens here and that artists who work here create nothing of value. I hope that with Shakespeare in the Port, people will take the time to consider the potential of Hong Kong’s art scene. To Matty and Edmond, who are always in my corner. Art Futures doth present

The Director doth note: Ir’s a weird kind of feeling - siting down to watch a production of Shakespeare. When the crowd quiets down, the lights come up, and the actors are just moments from entering the stage. It’s something about the anticipation. Or maybe it’s the words. Knowing that these words, the words that will soon be spoken have travelled so far, for so long; that they have been performed for hundreds of years; that they’ve leapt from stage to stage, city to city, and country to country- an unbroken chain connecting the present to the past. Of all Shakespeare’s plays, Lear has got to be the most difficult. It's like his greatest hits album, filled with: Tragedy, History, Betrayal, Scheming, Violence, Love, Pain, Torture, … the list goes on. It’s hard work to take so many disparate themes and make them come to life. It's harder still to do that outside, in an open air competing with the sounds of a modern world. For any company it would be a monumental challenge to bring such a play to life. Luckily, we found an such an amazing group of actors to do it. I am proud of this cast, this show, and this production team; and I am so excited to present what they’ve created for you. So please, enjoy our production of Lear! Sincerely, Ben Margalith

Lear Plot Summary

The Earl of Gloucester introduces his illegitimate son, Edmund, to the Earl of Kent at court. Lear, King of Britain, enters. Being old, Lear has decided to abdicate, retire, and divide his kingdom between his three daughters, with each receiving a portion of the kingdom according to how much they love him. Goneril, the eldest, and Regan, the second, both speak eloquently and receive their portion but Cordelia, the youngest, can say nothing. Her declaration that she loves him according to a daughter’s duty to a father enrages Lear and she is disowned. One of Cordelia’s suitors, the Duke of Burgundy, rejects her once she is dowerless but the King of France understands her declaration and takes her as his wife, while the Earl of Kent is banished for taking Cordelia’s part against the King. The kingdom is shared between Goneril and Regan. Lear tells them that he intends to live alternately with each of them. Determined to be recognised as a rightful son of Gloucester, Edmund plots against his father and legitimate brother, Edgar. Meanwhile, the Earl of Kent has returned in disguise and gains a place as a servant to Lear, supporting the King against Goneril’s ambitious servant, Oswald. Edmund persuades Cornwall that Gloucester is an enemy. Despairing of his daughters and regretting his rejection of Cordelia, Lear goes out into the wilderness during a fierce storm and becomes mad. Gloucester takes them into a hut for shelter and seeks the aid of Kent to get them away to the coast, where Cordelia has landed with a French army to fight for her father against her sisters and their husbands. Edgar, pretending to be mad, also takes refuge in the shelter and the Fool, the mad king and the beggar become companions until Edgar finds his father wandering in pain. Gloucester is blinded by Regan and Cornwall for his traitorous act in helping Lear; Cornwall is killed by a servant after blinding Gloucester but Regan continues to rule with Edmund’s help. Gloucester meets the mad Lear on Dover beach, near Cordelia’s camp and, with Kent’s aid, Lear is rescued and re-united with Cordelia. Gloucester, although reconciled with Edgar, dies alone. The French forces are defeated by Albany’s army, led by Edmund, and Lear and Cordelia are captured. Goneril has poisoned Regan in jealous rivalry for Edmund’s attention but Edgar, disguised now as a loyal knight, challenges Edmund to a duel and wounds him mortally. In despair, Goneril kills herself. The dying Edmund confesses his crimes, but it is too late to save Cordelia from the hangman. Lear’s heart breaks as he carries the body of his beloved daughter in his arms, and Albany and Edgar are left to re-organise the kingdom.

Lear - Alexandra Jacobs Alexandra Jacobs has been performing and teaching drama in Hong Kong since 2011. Recent credits include Mrs. Muller in Sweet and Sour Productions' Doubt and the Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts in Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection's "Alice in Wonderland". She has also appeared in several monologue showcases and devised community theatre projects. Thank you to everyone in the Lear cast for a great experience and thank you to everyone at home for their love and support.

Goneril - Keren Chaukria Keren studied at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where she ably performed in the production of Alice in wonderland. Her first performance in Hong Kong was in the Vagina Monologues where she entertained with her re-enactment of the piece 'Hair'. She has since performed in several other pieces such as Mothers Matter and Taming of the Shrew as a part of the Shakespeare festival. Keren is thrilled that she will be a part of the Shakespeare festival for the second year running and hopes to make this a regular occurrence.

Regan - Yolanda Sadler Yolanda was born in and grew up in the UK. She's always had an interest in theatre and studied at Birmingham School of Acting. She's been involved in productions in the UK and Spain, including playing Hortence in The Boyfriend, The Green Fairy in Jack and Bean Stalk Pantomime and Gill in Serious Money. This will be her first show since moving to Hong Kong, she can't wait to be a part of Shakespeare in the Port and hopes you enjoy the shows!

Cordelia - Allison Needels Allison is in HK for her year abroad, and is a University of Manchester student of Chinese Studies. Allison has constantly been on stage since the age of thirteen. Some of her favourite roles include Queen of Hearts in "Alice in Wonderland", Feste in "Twelfth Night", and White "The Sunset Limited". She hopes that "Lear" will make you laugh, cry, and tell your family that you love them! Enjoy!

Gloucester - David Allen David is a relative newcomer to the stage and has steadily found his feet over the last two years featuring in musical productions such as A Chorus Line, Oliver, Footloose and The Wild Party. This is his first foray into Shakespeare and hopefully not his last!

Edmund - Nikhil Sridhar Nikhil is excited to play the bastardly part of Edmund in this adaptation of his favourite Shakespearean tragedy. Although he studied Film and Literature in Philadelphia, his theatre credits in the States include "Godzilla" (Drexel Co-Op Theatre Co.), "The Apple Tree" (The Drexel Players), "Blink" (Directors' Labs Co.), and those in Hong Kong include "An Evening with the Bard" (Shakespeare in the Port) and "Thinner Than Water" (Aurora Theatre). He has also been an avid lover of Shakespeare's works ever since his chubby fingers first found a partially burnt and particularly smelly collection of Comedies at his school' old library; why he chooses to mention such stuff is beyond me (and him) - nonetheless, he's played parts in "The Tempest", "Hamlet", "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and "Macbeth". He's quite happy with the budding Hong Kong theatre scene and hopes you enjoy the performance!

Edgar - Tom Mclean Tom has been involved in numerous stage productions in Hong Kong, including last years Shakespeare in the Port. He also works with professional freelance media producers as a writer, and actor. His day-to-day job is teaching drama, going into primary and secondary schools to direct all sorts of productions.

Oswald - Nathan Koval Nathan received a BFA in Musical Theatre from Emerson College in Boston, MA. Before coming to Hong Kong, he toured internationally with Missoula Children's Theatre. He most recently played Pierrepont Finch in HK Singer's production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Previous credits include: Snoopy (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown), Leaf Coneybear (The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee), and John (John and Jen).

Cornwall - James Brockman After moving back to Hong Kong six years ago, Jim's failing acting career plods on from strength to strength to include memorable performances in Othello, The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui, Six Characters In Search Of An Author, Twelfth Night, Champagne & Cigarettes and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

Duke of Burgundy/Servants - Osmary Nieves Osmary is very excited to join Shakespeare in the Port for their performance of Lear. She was born and raised in Florida, USA and has recently appeared in Hong Kong Singers production of How to Succeed in Business. Her performances in the United States include “Agona” in The Lost Colony; “The Baker’s Wife” in Into the Woods; “Hero” in Much Ado About Nothing and “Ronnet” in Little Shop of Horrors. She would like to thank her family and friends for all of their continued love and support!

King of France/Servants - Emilie Broyelle Emilie was born in France but travelled most of her life. In Hong Kong, Emilie participated in the Faust musical productions of ‘Peter Pan’ and ‘Around the World in 80 Days’. She played the role of Decius in Julius Caesar in last year’s Shakespeare in the port festival. Emilie’s day job is working with children in a kindergarten.

Fool - Emma Smith Emma is excited to have Lear as her first production in Hong Kong and her first Shakespeare play. As a young girl she was involved in some theater but didn’t realize her passion for it until high school. Over the years, she have grown to love all areas of theater whether viewing, acting, or helping behind the scenes. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Kent - Vanessa Noble Vanessa is a classically trained saxophonist, clarinetist and actress who loves performing. Her Hong Kong appearances include The Vagina Monologues, Julius Caesar, Shakespeare in the Port and Mother Matters, Apple Pie Productions. Vanessa received her BA(Hons) from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London where her prominent moments were performing at The Minack Theatre, producing a Film project and studying as a Playwright. When not acting, Vanessa enjoys international travel and Kung Fu. Vanessa is very excited to be involved in the second year of Shakespeare in the Port and hopes you enjoy the shows!

Costume Designer – Stacey Kwan Stacy Wing Kwan Ip began her career studying theatre set and costume design at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Art. Upon graduating from HKAPA with a Bachelor Fine Arts (Honors) Degree in Theatre and Entertainment Arts major in set and costume design. She's passionate about art. Besides theatre design, Stacy has participated in set construction, graphic design, painting and photography. She enjoys working in different kinds of art-related projects.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream The Director Doth Note: A Midsummer Night's Dream remains one of the most well-loved and adapted plays of the Bard for all the right reasons - it is a play not only about love and courtship, but also about misunderstanding, eavesdropping, imagination, dreams, transformation, mischief, magic and music. Watching Midsummer is like watching As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing and The Tempest all at once. On a superficial level, Midsummer is a typical Shakespearean comedy: a pair of star-crossed lovers facing opposition, escaping to the countryside, defying all obstacles and eventually undermining the opposing authority. Like in many dreams, conflicts are resolved magically during the night. As the lovers recount their dreams in the following morning, they accept that their dreams actually have a direct impact on reality. The audience is thus faced with hundreds of questions: are dreams real? Do they reflect truth or at least a degree of truth? What are real and what are not real? When staging Midsummer, these are some of the questions that constantly linger in the back of the minds of directors and actors. After all, so many actions take place in full view of everyone and yet the characters are oblivious to these actions most of the time. How do we make sense of that? Staging Midsummer also reminds us of the binary relationship between comedy and tragedy. Having written Romeo and Juliet in the same year, Midsummer is almost a reinterpretation of the former (or the opposite). Either way, Shakespeare showed a high awareness of the relationship between comedy and tragedy and as directors and actors this is something difficult to miss. The play-within-play is almost like a lecture he wished to give all of us: comedies are always built on tensions and conflicts that can easily be spun into tragedies. Despite a happy ending for all the lovers in Midsummer, the play-within-play Pyramus and Thisby is a warning to all - that it is just as easy to end with the death of the lovers as their marriages. Indeed, there is a fine line between everything in life: fantasy and reality, love and hate, good and ill will, pleasure and offence. It is a reminder to all of us that misfortunes can easily be manipulated into fortunes, just as fortunes can easily be manipulated into misfortunes. Rosalind Wong Director

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Plot Summary

Theseus, the Duke of Athens, is preparing for his marriage to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. A courtier seeks the Duke’s intervention because his daughter, Hermia, will not agree to his choice of Demetrius as a husband; instead, she is in love with Lysander. The Duke tells Hermia to obey her father, on pain of death, or acceptance of life as a nun in Diana’s temple. Planning to elope, Lysander and Hermia tell Helena, who loves Demetrius, but who in turn hates her and loves Hermia. The lovers run away from Athens but get lost in the woods. They are followed by Demetrius, and then by Helena. Meanwhile, Oberon, king of the fairies and wood-dweller, has quarrelled with his queen, Titania, over an Indian boy. Overhearing Helena and Demetrius arguing, Oberon sends his mischievous servant, Puck, to get a flower whose juice has the power to make people fall in love with the first creature they see when the juice is placed on their eyelids while asleep. He instructs Puck to put some drops on Demetrius’ eyes, but he mistakenly puts the flower juice on the eyes of the sleeping Lysander so that when Helena wakes him he immediately falls in love with her instead. At the same time, a troupe known as The Mechanicals are rehearsing a play about the tragic comedy love story of Pyramus and Thisbe in the woods, to present before Theseus on his wedding day. Bottom, the weaver, is to play the lover, Pyramus; while Flute, the bellows-mender, is to play Thisbe, with others playing the Moon, the Wall and the Lion and they are directed by Quince, the carpenter. Puck overhears them and plays a trick on them by giving Bottom an ass’s head, frightening the others away. Bottom is lured towards the sleeping Titania whom Oberon has treated with the flower juice. On waking, she falls in love with the ass and entertains him with her fairies, but when Bottom falls asleep, Oberon restores Titania’s sight and wakes her. Appalled at the sight of what she has been in love with, Titania is reunited with Oberon. Puck removes the ass’s head and Bottom returns to Athens, rejoining his friends as they prepare for their play. Meanwhile, the lovers’ arguments tire them out as they chase one another through the woods. When Demetrius rests, Oberon puts magic juice on his eyes so that both he and Lysander pursue Helena until the four lovers fall asleep, exhausted. Puck puts the juice on Lysander’s eyes before Theseus, Hippolyta and their dawn hunting party awake the lovers. Happily reunited, Lysander with Hermia, Demetrius with Helena, they agree to share the Duke’s wedding day. The Mechanicals perform the play of Pyramus and Thisbe before the wedding guests. As the three couples retire Puck and the fairies return to make amends, suggesting the entire experience might be nothing but a dream.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Rosalind Wong– Director Rosalind is a BA&BEd graduate from HKU, where she also obtained a Master's degree in Literary and Cultural Studies. In 2013, she won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Hecklers for her portrayal of Armande in Les Femmes Savante. She is also the recipient of the Outstanding Actress Award in the 7th Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival and the Hong Kong School Drama Festival. Acting credits include Gogol's The Government Inspector, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It, Shakespeare’s Shorts, Twelfth Night and Much Ado About Nothing. Recent directing credits include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, Othello, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, As You Like it and Much Ado About Nothing. Her upcoming production, Tom Stoppard's The Inspector Hound, is co-directed with Julian Lamb and produced by the Shadow Players. She enjoys teaching English and drama to young people in her leisure time.

Puck – Debbie Chin Debbie is currently a BA undergraduate studying Japanese and Psychology in HKU. Her first drama experience was in primary school when she played Mrs. Tompkins from the children’s play Billy Bones and the Rock Rascals and she has studied drama-related subjects since then. Acting credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth and Hamlet. Her hobbies include acting, yoga, and daydreaming.

Peaseblossom – Sharon Tam Sharon is currently studying Languages and Humanities in HKU. She has been a stage manager and occasionally an actress in inter-school dramas, including Fame the musical and self-written dramas. She enjoys acting in dramas and sharing her own experiences with others as she believes that love never fails.

Oberon/Theseus – Desmond Chu Desmond has been with STG since 2011, when he acted as Duke Frederick, Orlando and Silvius in As You Like It for the 7th Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival, competing against actors and actresses from Macau, Mainland China and Taiwan. He also appeared as Oliver in another As You Like It production in 2013. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream this year, he will rediscover his talent for speed costume-changing when performing as Theseus and Oberon.

Titania – Malavika Shanker Malavika is currently vice president at J.P. Morgan and pursuing a part-time Masters in international affairs at HKU. She has had a passion for theatre since middle school, and was a part of her university’s a capella group in Singapore. She is excited about being a part of the HK theatre scene thanks to Ros Wong and the cast of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Ye Olde Bios

Helena – Charlotte Mui Charlotte is a first year BA undergraduate in HKU. This is her first production with STG, debuting in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She is the recipient of the Outstanding Actress Award and Outstanding Director Award in the Hong Kong School Drama Festival. Recent acting credits include Othello and Taming of the Shrew. She enjoys painting in her leisure time and is currently the Publication and Publicity secretary at Swire Hall.

Demetrius – Matthew Ko Matthew is an undergraduate in HKU, studying Business and Journalism. His previous acting experience includes Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream with STG. He is a professionally-trained writer in journalism, his first writing career being The Economist's intern reporter. He is currently a freelancer.

Lysander – Marco Wong Marco is currently studying in HKU. As a drama enthusiast, he has acted in theater productions since he was a child. He also enjoys directing and scriptwriting, for which he has won awards in university and high school drama competitions.

Hippolyta/Sets & Props – Suskihanna Gurug Suski is a freshman at HKU, majoring in Comparative Literature and English Studies. It is her first time acting in a Shakespeare play and getting out of her comfort zone. In her spare time, she is trying to tame her wild curly hair and involved in minority inclusion programs.

Egeus – Timothy Ng Timothy is currently pursuing a double degree in Mechanical Engineering and Marketing. He was the director, playwright and actor for the 2014 Malaysian Cultural Night and the director in 2015. He is a member of the HKU English Debate Team, and spends his leisure time attempting to understand how the world works, especially human behavior.

Hermia – Venus Cheung Venus is currently a year 3 student studying Global Business and Marketing at HKUST. In her first year, she participated in the Joint University Mass Dance Pre-team performance and acted as Marty in HKUST’s Summer Musical “Grease”. She enjoys singing and would like to try busking in Hong Kong.

Quince – Wyatt Kwok Wyatt is a fresh BEcon&Fin graduate from HKU and will start doing the Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Wyatt participated in the HKU Shakespeare Team in the play Hamlet in 2011. In the following years, Wyatt also took part in the production of Othello and Twelfth Night.

Snug – Suemiy Jiang A year one student from the Faculty of Arts in HKU, Suemiy plays the role of Snug the mechanical. Her interest in drama has driven her to act in Chinese dramas in the past, but this will be her first Shakespeare play and it has proven to be an interesting challenge.

Snout – Judy Lee Judy is a BEcon&Fin student from Tianjin, currently studying in HKU. She joined STG’s production of A Midsummer Night's Dream as the mechanical Snout. Enthusiastic about college life and interested in different cultures, she is a committee member of HKU’s Kendo Club and participates in a series of cultural events on campus.

Bottom/Costumes & Makeup – Brian Lau Makeup artist and actor Brian is a BA&BEd (LangEd-Eng) undergraduate in HKU. His dedication for drama began at the age of 11, when he first cross-dressed as Cinderella. Apart from teaching English and performing, he also has a strong passion for cosmetics and stage makeup.

Assistant Director - Areon Chan Areon is currently a politics and law student at HKU who considers arts and culture more than just an enlivenment to her formulaic and tedious study life. She joined STG in 2013 as an actress in Othello, and started directing in Twelfth Night. A Midsummer Night's Dream, co-directed with Rosalind Wong, is her latest production in 2015. Areon secretly fantasizes about actress' dresses because she is always forced to play male characters.

Treasurer/Sets & Props – Ruth Yip Ruth is a BBA (Acc&Fin) Year 3 student in HKU and current member of STG. Despite studying business in college, she enjoys literature and the arts very much. During her leisure time, she enjoys watching different art and theatre performances.

Producer– Joyce Ng Joyce is a first-year BA student studying in HKU. She was previously in charge of the sound and lights for STG’s last show. This is the first time that she is undertaking the responsibilities of a producer and it has been an intriguing yet frustrating experience.

Plot Summary

In this special edition of the play specially created for Shakespeare in the Port, four community theatre actors report for play rehearsal only to find out the director is not coming. To add to the confusion, one of the cast members has dropped three rehearsal scripts, . of which all the pages are unbound and unnumbered The pages fly everywhere No problem -.! unless the scripts are "Macbeth," "The Taming of the Shrew," and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" As one of the actors quips,. "We do not know anything about Shakespeare, but it all sounds the same anyway, so grab some pages." The mayhem that results will have you wondering if this play is "to be, or not to be."

Megan - Emma O’Rourke Emma O'Rourke graduated with a BA -. Acting for Stage and Screen from Charles Sturt University in Australia 6 years ago She spent her first year out, touring Italy performing TIE shows of "Robin Hood", "Excalibur", "Peter Pan" and "The wizard of Oz". Performing in the stage shows of "The last days of Judas Iscariot", "Bun in the Oven" and most recently in "The Taming of the Shrew" in which she played the lead role of Katharina. It was her performance in this show that earned her The Best Actress award in the Hecklers, an awards show that honors the theatre and performing arts community of Hong Kong.

Josh – Boaz Lo Boaz came from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, major in Acting. Boaz is passionate in acting and performing. Boaz has participated in various theater productions such as 'The Taming of the Strew' (as Lucentio) 'Annie Jr.' (As Drake), 'Bugsy Malone' (as O'Dreary) and 'The Wizard of OZ' (as the Tinman) .He was also a winner in the Hong Kong School Speech Festival for solo verse speaking, dramatic duologue and public speaking.

Carrie – Minna Cheung Minna graduated from CUHK with First Class Honours in English. She won the Best Actress Award at the 4th Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival, in which her team placed first-runner-up. After graduation, she has been actively involved in public drama productions such as . "Aladdin the Panto" by Hong Kong Players Other Performances include "Sweeny Todd the Musical" and "Shakespeare: Ms. Directing" by Youth Arts Foundation. Her Performance in the 2013 Debut Shadow Players Production "The Learned Ladies of Mid-Levels" Earned HER nomination in Both the Best Actress and Best Designer categories in the Hecklers, an awards show that honors the theatre and performing arts community of Hong Kong. In this year's Shadow Players production "The Government Inspector", she continued to showcase, alongside her acting, her obsession with set and costumes, which brought her another Best Designer nomination.

Jason – Joe Fiorello Joe Fiorello started his acting career performing in high school productions of "The Outsiders" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". Since then he has studied acting and filmmaking at NYU, performed in a stage production of "Six Characters in Search of an Author ", and written, directed and acted in award winning short films. His most recent project has been writing and directing his first feature film in Hong Kong," Love Stalk love ‧ punch ". Joe has also been very active in English language learning productions, performing in such classic tales as "Beauty and the Beast", "Robin Hood", "Cinderella", "A Christmas Carol" and "Romeo and Juliet”.

The Tempest Plot Summary

Alonso, the king of Naples, is returning from his daughter’s wedding in Tunis. His son, Ferdinand; his brother, Sebastian; and Antonio, the Duke of Milan accompany him. An old Milanese courtier, Gonzalo, is also on board. The ship is wrecked in a tempest and all the passengers and crew are thrown into the furious sea. The magician Prospero, rightful Duke of Milan, and his fifteen year-old daughter, Miranda, are watching the shipwreck from a nearby island. He recounts, for the first time, how they came to be on the island. Usurped by his brother Antonio twelve years ago, he fled with his baby daughter, Miranda, with Gonzalo’s help, and his library of prized books on magic. They had ended up on the island and Prospero turned, Caliban, a deformed and savage creature, into his slave. One spirit, Ariel, was also freed by Prospero and was made to reluctantly serve him. The ship’s passengers are cast ashore, unharmed. Alonso believes his son to be dead but Ferdinand has landed on another part of the island. He encounters Miranda and they fall in love at first sight. Prospero puts Ferdinand to work manually, controlling all his movements with magic. Ariel pesters Prospero for his freedom and Prospero promises it has done his bidding regarding these newcomers. Ariel leads the party towards Prospero. During this journey Antonio and Sebastian plot to kill Alonso so that Sebastian can be king. Two other members of the party, Trinculo, the court jester, and Stephano, a boisterous butler, are also wandering about on the island. Caliban recruits them to help him overthrow Prospero. They all get drunk then set off for Prospero, but fails in their plot. Prospero releases Ferdinand and gives his blessing to the marriage of the young couple. When the three would-be usurpers arrive at his cell they are distracted by brightly coloured clothes hung out for them, and are chased away by a band of spirits who have taken on the form of dogs. With everyone gathered by Ariel, Prospero reveals himself and renounces his magic. He forgives his brother and prepares his return to Milan and to resume his dukedom; Miranda and Ferdinand are betrothed; Ariel is set free; Caliban and the drunken servants are also forgiven; and a final celebration of their reunion ensues.

Aska Leung Ka Wai - Director As a Hong Kong's theatre actor, founder and artistic director of Theatre Strawberry, Leung focuses on research and development of physical theatre in the recent years, from physical training to creation, strengthening the traditional concept in acting.

The Director Doth Note: The world needs hope forgive freely, and love and this is what we need most lacking. I really want to use this drama to remind you what is the most important I advocate the use of this Poor Theater to lead performers, I try to show them the body as the main tool. This is their challenge we look at how the actors body to tell a story for everyone.

In 2011 to 2014, Leung worked closely with Tang Shu­Wing Theatre Studio. Performances include Why aren’t you Steve Jobs?, A passionate body, Detention (performed in Shouson Theatre of Hong Kong Arts Centre in 2011, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012, re­ran in Hong Kong, Macau and 5 major cities in mainland China in 2012 to 14), Titus Andronicus (performed in the 40th Hong Kong Arts Festival and Globe to Globe, and World Shakespeare Festival in Globe Theatre of London in 2012, re­ran in Germany in 2013), Titus Andronicus 2.0 (re­ran in Norway, Poland and Beijing). Leung became a full time artist of Tang Shu­Wing Theatre Studio in 2013/14.

Eddie majored in English and English Literature, getting a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from Hong Kong University; and a master’s degree in Applied Theatre and Drama Education from Griffith University. He has been teaching English, practising speech and drama coaching in Hong Kong for about thirty years. He now presently serves as the vice-president of the Hong Kong Professional Teachers’ union, and a member of RTHK Programme Advisory Panel. Being a member of the board of Directors of the Seals Players Foundation Company, he has served as an actor, and director for the company, including Andre in Chekov’s Three Sister, and Cassio in Shakespeare’s Othello. Besides, he also has directed over ten musicals for the Hong Kong East District Children’s Choir since 1995, including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Lionel Bart’s Oliver. In 2014, he adopted and directed a junior version of Ms. Rebecca Pan’s Chinese original musical “Pai Niang Niang” in Hong Kong , Manchester, Derby and London.

Wong, known as Bosco, graduated from the The Hong Kong Academy for Performancing Arts, School of Drama, with a Major in Acting. Wong now works as a Freelance Actor, but also works in education and with teens. Wong’s activities vary and includeFilm, TV, and Stage. Recently Wong took part in RTHK “ Below the Lion Rock Real Estate”, Movie “ Design for Living”; HKREP “ The Island of GoldFish”.

Trinculo – (David )Chan Tak Wing

Videographer – Aaron Michelson Born and bred in Hong Kong. Aaron Michelson is a lover of arts and experienced videographer. He has filmed many of the local theatre plays and other live events that took place in HK. He also has filmed promotional videos and a couple of music videos as well. Last year he was one of the Camera Operators at TED X HKU. He is currently working on his own project, which is a documentary on the HK theatre scene.
