in Stratford-upon-Avon, England
• Born into a middle-class family
• Attended a local grammar school, studying Latin and reading works by ancient Roman writers

• Had a daughter named Susanna
• Had twins named Hamnet and Judith
Shakespeare’s Career
• One of the most successful playwrights in London
• Wrote a total of 37 plays and over 100 sonnets
• Famous for tragedies, comedies, and histories
Career continued…
• Good businessman, as well as a master dramatist
• Part owner of an acting group called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, which later became the King’s Men
• Owned shares in the Globe Theatre, where most of his plays were performed
Saying Farewell to the Bard
While there are no records of William Shakespeare’s death, the monument that marks his grave at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon suggests that he died on April 23, 1616.
His works will live on forever!
