Shaker Step #181 is one of the handiest and most beautiful pieces of furniture we make at Redway Furniture. This step is an adaption of a step made at Hancock Shaker Village during the 19th Century. It is constructed of solid American Black Cherry using hand-cut dovetails. Only a Dozuki Saw and Chisels were used to cut these dovetails. Dovetails are the strongest way to join wood at right angles, and these dovetails will never come apart. The step is finished with 5 coats of hand-rubbed Tung Oil /Teak Oil for a silky-smooth finish. The Shakers used steps like this to retrieve items in their tall cabinets and chests of drawers. This step is extremely useful in the kitchen, living room, or bedroom. Its light enough to carry room to room. Use it as a side table for drinks, to reach tall kitchen cabinet shelves, or a portable stool.
