Mrs Shajanabi Mehbooba hails from Amminabavi village of Dharwad Taluk of Dharwad District. She is Member of Sakshi Self Help group. After her association with Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project ®, she developed special interest in agriculture and self-employment activity. So far she has taken 6 numbers of loans amounting to Rs. 5 lakh for her life settlement activities and she has proved herself successful in her effort to lead a dignified life.

Special achievement:

Before joining to SHG, both husband and wife were coolie workers hardly earning Rs.4000/- per •

month. They were possessing 3 acres of land which was leased out to a third party.

After joining SHG, she got many exposures of visiting farmers and self-employment •

models within Dharwad Dist. During her visits, she learnt how a small holding of land can yield

maximum return to the family. As a result she thought of making use of land for agricultural

activity and as a first step she constructed bunding to her field to harvest rain water into land.

Then she designed the “plan for cultivation” and earmarked one and half acres each for •

vegetable cultivation and other commercial crops like onion, ground nut, red chilly etc.

She also engaged herself in tailoring activity, preparation of art-crafts, agarbathi rolling etc. •

during her leisure hours.

As a result of the above now the family is earning Rs.5000/- per week. She is happily repaying •

the weekly installment for the loan borrowed from the Group.

Constructed a new house out of the savings and borrowing through SHG.•

Leading a very good and comfortable life.•

She became a model for many women in villages. •
