United Orthodox Synagogues /AIPAC High School Scholarship Program

United Orthodox Synagogues announces that it will con-tinue its program sponsoring a high school student to attend the AIPAC National Policy Conference which is held each year in Washington D C. Through the generosi-ty of private donors UOS is offering a full scholarship for the conference registration fees to allow 1 deserving high school student to attend this conference. The winner is responsible for arranging their flight and lodging either in a hotel or with home hospitality. The AIPAC Policy Conference 2016 will be held Sunday, March 20th – Tuesday, March 22nd at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The three day confer-ence is filled with programs and speakers who educate attendees on the importance of the US/Israel relation-ship, explain the nature of the relationship, and educate conference participants on both the method and the im-portance of being involved in the political process. The three day program concludes with thousands of attendees traveling to Capitol Hill to meet with their Con-gressman and Senators to lobby them on the importance of the US/Israel relationship. AIPAC is a lobbying group that advocates for pro-Israel policies to the Congress and Executive Branch of the United States. It has been described as the most effec-tive lobby in this country. This year, more than 14,000 people are expected to attend the policy conference which will include a special track for the more than 1,000 high school and college students who will attend. The scholarship is available to any high school student whose parents are UOS members. Students are invited to prepare an essay explaining what they think they will gain from the conference, why they think the U.S. Israel relationship is important both to the U.S. and to Israel and how the applicant intends to be involved in Israel advocacy upon returning from the conference. Essays should be between 500 and 1,000 words and must be submitted to via email [email protected] no later than January 21. The United Orthodox Synagogues prides itself on being a staunchly pro-Israel synagogue and believes that this program is yet another example of how synagogues can promote the importance of Zionism. Please mail submissions to [email protected]

ב"ה

Dear Rabbi Gelman and UOS community members,

A few weeks ago we had the honor to be hosted in your community for Shabbat.

The cause of our visit was meeting our daughters after 4 months of separation.

During this period which was not easy for us we have heard a lot about UOS Houston community. Our

daughters told us about the duties they have in school, Bnei Akiva and other challenging activities with the

young generation of the community.

We have heard about the wonderful families supporting and taking care for them.

During our short visit we have realized much better the life in your community and the stories and the

descriptions which we have heard about during this period became much more real and colorful.

We found a very warm and loving community full of values, very welcoming, friendly and very pleasant.

We really felt almost like at home.

We were very excited for what we have seen and experienced during the weekend we have spent in your

community.

The experience which they pass this year is unique. We are sure that this year will leave a powerful and an

important positive mark for the future, new relations and much better understanding of the Jewish world

outside Israel which we believe is very important.

We understand that the support and the help they get from the community are vital for their success and

ability to proceed the plans and other doings for and among the community and we appreciate it very much.

At this point we wish to thank you for your kindness, generous hospitality and last but not least your care and

support to Renana and Shani all around.

We are full of "הכרת הטוב" to God and to you for this special year which we hope that contributes the UOS

community as well as to Shani and Renana.

We would appreciate if you could pass these words to UOS members.

Thanks again and we wish the whole community all the best,

Spigelman and Breslauer families,

Shoham, January 8th, 2016
