Auctioneer Dennis Wagner and GCBAA President Rick Boylan kick off the 2015 Summer Meeting Foundation Auction at The Mining Exchange Hotel.
For the Kids2015 Foundation Auction & Raffle a Success
One of the biggest challenges facing the golf industry is finding ways to grow the game. The GCBAA Foundation’s Sticks for Kids Program was created to break down the barriers and make golf more accessible to children by providing them with the equipment and program materials they need to learn the game. In 2014, more than 46,000 children and disabled adults were given the opportunity to play, thanks to Sticks for Kids.
The Annual Foundation Auction and Raffle is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year, held in conjunction with this year’s Summer Meeting in Colorado Springs, CO. In the weeks leading up to the Summer Meeting, there was an outpouring of support from generous donors and
sponsors, which helped make this year’s auction one of the most successful in GCBAA history. With more than $60,000 raised in the Live Auction, Silent Auction, and Raffle, the Foundation can continue its mission of bringing the game of golf to the next generation.
The Executive Staff would like to thank all of the generous donors and meeting attendees who helped us enjoy another successful year. We would also like to thank the Fundraising Committee and our auctioneer, Dennis Wagner, for their tireless efforts to make this year’s event the biggest and best yet.
For more information on this annual event and how you can contribute, contact the Executive Office at 402-476-4444.

GCBAA Members Go All-In for Annual SFK TournamentAfter just a few hours’ sleep it was
up and at ‘em for the annual Sticks for Kids Golf Outing at Pine Creek Golf Club. GCBAA members and guests spent the morning enjoying the beautiful weather and the great company as they played with breathtaking views of Pike’s Peak as a backdrop.
For the fourth year, the All-In 4 Sticks for Kids initiative has helped raise additional funds for the Foundation with 100% team participation. For $99, each team receives four team mulligans, four raffle tickets, permission to “Tee It Forward” on #2 and #15, and a chance to win a $300 cash prize on the Par 3, Closest to the Pin contest. After the tournament, players gathered in the Clubhouse for the awards luncheon and announcement of the Raffle winners. It was a great end for another great summer meeting.
Keep your eyes open for informa-tion about the 2016 Summer Meeting to be held August 1-3 in Jersey City, NJ.

Dads & DaughtersPort Orange Girls Golf celebrates
Father’s Day with golf, food, and funThe LPGA/USGA Girls Golf program prides itself as being the only
national junior golf program that specializes in providing girl-friendly environments for juniors to learn the game. Girls Golf currently has 300 sites across the U.S. that teach basic fundamentals and valuable life skills to girls ages 6-17.
In 2015, the Girls Golf of Port Orange program in Port Orange, FL reached out to the GCBAA Foundation to apply for Sticks for Kids funding, hoping to expand their reach of their existing program. The 10 sets of junior clubs sent by the GCBAA Foundation have already been put to very good use.
In addition to lessons and clinics, the program also hosts a number of special events throughout the year. One of the most recent was a Father’s Day event held June 20 at Crane Lakes Golf Club. The girls were encouraged to bring their fathers or grandfathers for a fun-filled day on the course.
“We had around 20 girls attend, and half of them didn’t have their own clubs, so we were extremely thankful to have our Sticks for Kids clubs with us!” Program Coordinator Allie Bodemann said. “We had a Father’s Day themed putting course and the girls paired with their dads and grandpas in a scramble format.”
Bodemann and Site Director Teresa Zamboni had a full line-up of fun scheduled for the day. There were stations designed to help the girls work on their swing and design a golf ball as a Father’s Day gift. The event was a huge success.

Gig Harbor Program Grows with SFKFor 35 years, Gig Harbor Golf Club
(GHGC) in Gig Harbor, WA has been investing in youth through its junior golf camp, a program designed to instill a love of the game that will last a lifetime.
“Many of our members, including our current club champion, grew up in the camp and have developed a lifetime love of golf,” said GHGC President Dan Marquett.
In 2013, GHGC partnered with the local park district, PenMet Parks, to extend the junior camp to the local community. Under the direction of PGA Pro Ryan Willey, the GHGC Junior Golf Camp focuses on four key principles--Safety, Respect, Fair Play, and Fun.
Running for six consecutive
Mondays beginning in July, junior camp participants learn all aspects of the game, from chipping, putting, and full swing to the rules of golf and care for the course. Students are divided into three age groups: 6-8, 9-11, and 12-16, and each student is given a Rules of Golf reference book.
“What makes our program truly unique is that we close our course during the camp to allow the kids to actually get on the course and play ‘real’ golf,” Marquett explained.
On the last day of camp, GHGC invites parents and families to the club for a barbecue to celebrate another great year.
As a small, private course, GHGC
often had to turn away children who didn’t have their own equipment, so when Marquett discovered the Sticks for Kids Program, he knew it could be a great fit and help create new opportunities for children in the community. GHGC was granted SFK funding in 2015, and the program hit the ground running.
“This year, due to the generous donation from Sticks for Kids, we were able to support 30 kids who didn’t own clubs!” Marquett said. “This has allowed further growth of our camp, up to 90 total this year, and we look forward to even more success in the future!”

Golf Course Builders Association of America Foundation:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous $1,000 scholarship. I am very happy and appreciative to know that I was selected as the recipient of your kind generosity.
I am a PGA Golf Management Major attending the University of Nebraska. I plan to pursue a career as Head Golf Professional upon my intended graduation date in the fall of 2018. I am currently a sophomore carrying 16 units and plan on continuing a rather heavy class load to minor in Health and Nutrition Sciences. Thanks to you, I am already one step closer to these goals.
By being awarded the Golf Course Builders Association of American Foundation Scholarship, you have taken away some of the burdens that get in the way of most college students for me. With this scholarship, I will be able to focus even more of my time on my education and career goals. I can only hope that one day I can help other students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.
Kindest Regards,
Nickolaus St. OngeUniversity of NebraskaPGA Golf Management Student

One Ticket, One Chance, Big Win2016 Harley Raffle Tickets Coming Soon!
Just one ticket, a $100 chance, was all it took for Sean Duffy of Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, FL to walk out of the 2015 Golf Industry Show a winner. Duffy purchased a ticket from the GCBAA Foundation booth on his way across the GIS tradeshow floor, not knowing that less than 24 hours later his name would be drawn as winner of a brand new 2015 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic motorcycle.
One ticket is really all it takes.
Held each February in conjunction with the Golf Industry Show, the Chuck Cloud Memorial Raffle is one of the GCBAA Foundation’s most popular fundraising events of the year. With just 500 tickets available, participants have a 1/500 chance of winning their choice of a beautiful new Heritage Softail Classic or $10,000 cash. Tickets are just $100 each. After the grand prize winner is drawn, an additional 50 tickets are pulled for a $100 cash prize.
The odds are ever in your favor.
The GCBAA Staff is hard at work on finalizing the details for the 2016 raffle. Tickets will be available soon. They make great stocking stuffers for the Harley lover in your life!
For more information, contact the Executive Office at 402-476-4444.
GCBAA Executive Director Justin Apel and Foundation President Rick Lohman draw the winning ticket and congratulate 2015 raffle winner (and proud new Harley owner) Sean Duffy. A total of 467 tickets were sold in 2015, a Foundation record.
A big thanks to Pat Jones and Helen M. Stone at Golf Course Industry Magazine for an awesome SFK feature story in the October issue! Take a moment and head over to www.golfcourseindustry.com to read more and to sign up for the magazine that delivers a wealth of industry news.
Sticks for Kids Year-End Survey Coming Soon! All Sticks for Kids Program participants are required to take part in the annual year-end survey. Data collected from SFK
Programs is used to create the annual GCBAA Foundation Status Report. The Status Report is shared with GCBAA Members and donors so they can see the impact their contributions are making on the children and families we serve. The survey will be live in December. Be sure to check your email, or log onto our website www.sticksforkids.org for more information.
Invest in Youth, Build the FutureThe future of golf is dependent on
the next generation and the GCBAA Foundation has taken a special interest in providing youth with the tools and support they need to explore the game of golf and potential careers in the golf industry. Through the Sticks for Kids Program, the Foundation Scholarship Program, and the support of like-minded allied industry initiatives, the GCBAA Foundation is committed to breaking down the barriers that may prevent the next generation from exploring the game and building new partnerships that can continue to benefit the entire industry.
But we need your help.
The work of the GCBAA Foundation is made possible by the ongoing support and generosity of our donors. Each year, the Foundation hosts several fundraising events (such as the annual Harley Raffle, the Foundation Auction, and the SFK Golf Tournament), but that is just one piece of the puzzle.
Maintaining our current programs and continuing to expand our reach is a big job and we need your help to do it. There are so many ways to get involved and contribute. Here are a few ways you can make an impact:
DONATEWhether it’s your time, your money,
a product/service from your company, or an item for our auction, your donations are what help us keep our programs going.
Through the years, the GCBAA Foundation has also received a number of memorial donations, which are a great way to honor the memory of a friend or family member who served in the industry or just loved the game. Memorial funds are easy to establish. A button can be added to our website to make it easy for people to access the donation form, and the donations directly impact the children and families we serve through our Sticks for Kids and Scholarship Programs.
VOLUNTEERThe Foundation is always looking
for volunteers to help with our annual events (manning the Foundation booth at the Golf Industry Show, selling Harley tickets, reaching out to donors to secure raffle items, etc.). If you’re a hands-on type, you can roll up your sleeves and help us at one of our events.
SPREAD THE WORDEveryone knows the best advertising
is word of mouth. Talk about the Foundation with your friends and colleagues. Direct people to our website www.sticksforkids.org. Share copies of the Foundation Status Report or Newsletter. We love to see Sticks for Kids applications come in from referrals or take phone calls from people who heard about our programs and want to learn more. One of the easiest ways you can support the GCBAA Foundation is to talk about us and the work we do.
