How do I make the team?Attend time trialsClub swimmers may give me times from club
teamDo you have previous swimming experience? If you swim with “age group”/ Senior 2 level,
I would like you to swim at high school practices
Upcoming Dates to RememberSept. 8th - Registration Meeting in the
evening for parents and studentsOct. 7th - Physicals dueOct. 19th - Time trials (9th graders or new to
the team)Oct. 20th- 1st Day of Practice
We will have a kickoff party the first weekend in the season, and will be hosting spaghetti dinners throughout the season.
Practice SchedulePractice Starts October 20th
Monday 6:45am-7:30am Conditioning at SFHS Track (weather permitting; conditioning ends after Holiday break)
Tuesday-Thursday 6:00am-7:15am at Cumming Aquatic Center
Athlete ExpectationsYou are a student-athlete, not an athlete-student. You must maintain
satisfactory grades, attendance and attitude in all of your classes to participate with a minimum of 2.5 grade point average.
Some of the meets will be capped this year so not all of the swimmers will be able to participate in each meet. This is a varsity team so those with the fastest times will be entered in those meets (tba).
90% attendance is mandatory for lettering consideration. ALL CLUB swimmers must check in with Coach Spurlock at 8am on
Tuesdays after or during conditioning. Club swimmers must attend at least 5 practices throughout the
season. Deliberately skipping a meet will result in suspension from the team. If another high school sport overlaps swimming at the beginning of
the season practices will not be mandatory until the prior sport has concluded. (note needed from coach)
Practice ExpectationsSwimmers need to be in the water promptly
at the start of practice. Practices are only 1 hour 15 minutes- every minute counts!
Keep open-lines of communication – with team captain and coaches. Any negativity will be promptly addressed.
Meet Expectations/Sportsmanship Swimmers must wear their team suits and their team caps – swimmers may wear their
fast skins and dome caps for the county and state meets. Know which events you are swimming and be on time to each event. IF YOU ARE
ENTERED INTO AN EVENT BUT MISS IT YOU WILL BE CHARGED THE COST OF THE EVENT – USUALLY AROUND $5.
Relays MUST be swum in the order designated by the coaches – the heat sheets will not always be right
Cheer for all of your teammates At the conclusion of each race, shake hands with the opposing swimmer next to you. Be on time for the busses to away meets. If you are late, you will be left behind. All athletes are required to be on the bus to and from designated meets. Buses will be
provided for the following meets: 12/11 Tallulah Falls Winter Invitational County Meet State Meet
In the event you absolutely have to go home with a parent – the parent must inform Coach Spurlock. Last year several swimmers left without communicating this.
As in practice, everyone stays to help clean up the pool; no one leaves until everything is done!
