WHY KIDS PLAY SOCCER: SURVEY SAYS...
#48 WINNING
Words from the Players:
• Don’t yell at the refs! It never makes them change the call!
• Don’t yell at my teammates- it’s so embarrassing!
• Don’t yell at me during the game- often it’s different than what coach says, and it makes me confused!
• Don’t ask me about the game right after the game- just take me to get food.
• I feel like you hate me when I don’t play well.
Tips from Val:
• Remind them you love them
• Ask open ended questions and LISTEN
• Ask players if they want to do more. Support their interest and push them harder only if they want it
• Pay attention to the environment- is there joy? Is there constructive feedback? Does your son/ daughter look like he/she likes the team? Is he getting better? Does she enjoy going to practice? Does he respect the coach?
What you can do:• WATCH THE GAME: Youtube/ NWSL/ EPL etc.
• Take them to games- help them study their position
• Expose them to awesome resources (IG, books)
• Catch them doing something right!
• Tell them you love them!
• Enjoy yourself!
