SF OM WHITINSVILLE, MASS. I Wonder—Do We Know—I Hope! BY SAILOR "JIM" DUGGAN I wondered: On D Day when I broke from boot camp as millions before me have. How many of these are taking part in the invasion, and in every landing operation made, wherever it may be? What will become of the fellows who trained with me? Do we know: What we shall eventually be fighting for? What, or for whom they are now confronting the enemy? What goes on back home? Or are we too busy to pay attention to reports of the bickering bureaus in Washington carrying on petty arguments? One endeavoring to gain more publicity than the other. Or to the rising prices, the scarcity of this and that. To reports of mismanagement and waste ? Or to news flashes mentioning that a fellow named Winchell is scrapping with Congressman Dies? I hope: We are fighting for the return of the old gang on the corner ; sons, husbands, fathers and daughters b a c k with their families.
