Wednesday evening (5:30-7:30) is the district’s dinner for all LGBTQ students, families, and staff. See Nora for more information. Thursday evening is our PAC meeting (6-7:30). Please join us in the library to plan upcoming events. Please join Ms. Jasmine for Parent Night In on Tuesday, April 15 th (5- 6 pm) after break. The City Scholars after school program will have a night of family literacy, questions and surveys for all! Childcare and light refreshments will be provided. Mark your calendars for dinner out at Tacolicious (741 Valencia between 18th and 19 th St.) every Monday in April as 15% of proceeds go to SFC. SFC’s 2nd Annual Pie Social and Silent Auction is Sunday, April 13th at The Verdi Club (2424 Mariposa St.) It will be a fun family event with beverages, live music, activities for the kids, our silent auction, and lots of tasty pies! You can buy tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/583150 Arrival and dismissal: Please DO NOT block traffic or stop on Paris or Excelsior Ave. All families must find parking or pull into the white zone. Pick-up and drop-off should only occur in the white zone on Paris. STRONG INDIVIDUALS NEWS STRONG COMMUNITY K/1: students are wrapping up their reviews and reading across genre unit, revising and selecting their best work, and getting project ready. 2/3: students are learning the rock cycle, finishing their realistic fiction stories, reading biographies, and reviewing multiplication and division. 4/5: students are writing a second paragraph about characters, reading biographies, learning about the rock cycle, and multiplying decimals. 5/6: students are reading nonfiction, preparing to start their project on the “Museum of Power,” studying angles in math, and learning about disease-free living. 7/8: students are building rockets, making up work and quizzes in math, and beginning to research the Aztecs, Mayas, and Incas. Garden: Mark your calendars: Earth Day is April 22 nd . How do YOU want to celebrate Mother Earth this year? How about biking, skating, or riding a unicycle to school? Contact Coach Carly with any questions! 2013-2014 Configuration Changes: Staff and our SSC have been making plans for some strategic changes for next school year. Among these will be a change back to a 6-8 middle school structure (along with 3 classes at 4/5), to allow for a smaller class size at 7/8 Humanities, single-subject math 6-8, small advisories in the middle school, and a unified 5 th grade experience. Stay tuned for further changes! We are incredibly lucky to have the flexibility and teacher-run structure to support making the changes needed to best serve our students. With an increasing district budget, we have the opportunity to reconfigure to most strategically meet the academic and holistic needs of our students. We look forward to the new design!     2/3: Los alumnos están aprendiendo el ciclo de roca, terminando los cuentos de la ficción realística, leyendo biografías, y revisando la multiplicación y división.

    4/5: Los alumnos están escribiendo el segundo párrafo sobre los personajes, leyendo biografías, aprendiendo sobre el ciclo de roca, y multiplicando decimales.

    5/6: Los alumnos están leyendo la no ficción, preparando para empezar el proyecto del “Museo de Poder,” estudiando los ángulos en las matemáticas, y aprendiendo sobre el vivir sin enfermedades.

    7/8: Los alumnos están construyendo cohetes, cumpliendo con las tareas y exámenes en las matemáticas, y empezando la investigación de los Azteca, Inca, y Maya.

    Jardín: Marque los calendarios: El Día de la Tierra es 22 de abril. ¿Cómo quiera celebrar la Madre Tierra este año? ¿Andar en bicicleta, patinar ó montar un monociclo a la escuela?     K/1: Los alumnos están terminando con la unidad sobre la crítica y leyendo diferentes tipos de escritura, revisando y escogiendo sus obras mejores, y preparando para los proyectos.

    2013-2014 Cambios en la configuración: El personal escolar y el SSC han estado planeando unos cambios estratégicos para el próximo año escolar. Entre estos es el cambiar de nuevo a la estructura de grados 6-8 en la escuela intermedia (y tener tres clases de grados 4/5) para poder tener clases mas pequeñas para las humanidades en grados 7/8, clases en las matemáticas de una sola materia en grados 6-8, grupos pequeños para la asesoría en la escuela intermedia, y una experiencia unida para quinto grado. ¡Habrá mas información sobre otros cambios! Somos muy afortunados a tener la flexibilidad y una estructura manejada por maestros para decidir los cambios necesarios para servir mejor a los alumnos. Con un presupuesto del distrito creciente, tenemos la oportunidad de reconfigurar estratégicamente la escuela para poder cumplir con las necesidades académicos y holístico de los alumnos. ¡Estamos emocionados por el diseño nuevo!
