Second Collection this week for
Scottish National Communications
First Communions will take place on Sunday during the 11am Mass. The Sacrament of First Eucharist will be received by the second group of children from P4 at St. Lucy’s. This event is very important, since the Eucharist is the “source and the summit” of Christian faith. The parents and children, with help of catechists and teachers, have been preparing for this special occasion since October 2014. The children, after being born anew at their baptism, will now be strengthened by reception of the Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist; the Real Presence, the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, the food of eternal life. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches “The sacraments of Christian Initiation...lay the foundations of every Christian life.” Our congratulations and prayers go to: Ewan Freeland; Grace Irwin; Luke Kinnear; Grace MacBroom; Aaron Martin; Pierce McBride; Ryan Noble; Shannon O'Neil; Sharee O'Neil; Robyn Wright; Damian Lyzwa; Leon Paterson; Declan Johnstone; Stephanie Moore.
49th World Communications Day 2015. We are asked to reflect on the necessity of fulfilling the command of Jesus to preach the Good News of the Gospel to the whole world. A key to communicating with “the whole world” is the world of the media and its demands for news relating to every aspect of the life of the
Church and its people. Each year, Pope Francis publishes a special message for this day in January, on the feast of St. Francis de Salles, the patron saint of journalists. The theme chosen by the Holy father this year is "Communicating the Family: A Privileged Place of Encounter with the Gift of Love". Pope Francis begins his message by saying “The family is a subject of profound reflection by the Church and of a process involving two Synods of bishops: the recent extraordinary assembly and the ordinary assembly scheduled for October. So I thought it appropriate that the theme should have the family as its point of reflection. After all, it is the context of the family that we first learn to communicate. Focusing on this context can help to make our communication more authentic and humane, while helping us to view the family in a new perspective”. World Communications Day is a worldwide celebration called for by the Second Vatican Council, and is marked, on the recommendation of the bishops of the world, on the Sunday before Pentecost. Second Collection for The Scottish Communications Commission. As you know the parish depends on the second collection for its viability. Pentecost Sunday: Celebration of the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion for Leo Emre Osturk. With great joy Holy Mother Church and St. Lucy’s Parish will welcome Leo as he completes his Rites of Christian Initiation. We pray that this happy day will bring great blessings on the Church and on himself and his family. Concern was expressed at the PPC that there was a danger of some of the girls’ veils or dresses catching fire. Following on a discussion, I have agreed that there should be no candles lit during 11am Mass this Sunday.
