Knights of Columbus Breakfast for Vicenta Sunday, February 23

Many of you have heard that a dear parishioner has been seriously ill. Vi-centa Galicia, who is a lector for the Spanish Mass, was struck down with the flu just before Thanksgiving, which resulted in a miscarriage in her 8th month of pregnancy. Later she became so ill that she was transported to Spokane’s Sacred Heart hospital. The doctors there gave her a 1% chance of survival but miraculously, through constant prayers for intersession to the Virgin of Guadalupe, she was spared. However, her heart was weak for so long, that she lost circulation to her extremities and she has had to have a foot amputated. Her husband has been without work for these many months, as he is her care-giver. The Knights would like to support Vicenta and her loving little family.

Please join the Knights for breakfast THIS Sunday after all the Masses. Thank you in advance for showing your

love and support in this way.

FOOLISHNESS

Sometimes the idea of repentance seems old-fashioned, naï ve, even foolish. But if you’re looking for real foolish-ness, you’ll find it in today’s readings. We begin with Leviticus and the admonition, “Take no revenge and cherish no grudge” (Leviticus 19:18). We’ve heard that message before, of course, so we might forget how far it is from the so-called “practical realities of life.” Saint Paul warns us about being practical, though. Whoever considers oneself wise had better “become a fool,” because “the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God” (1 Corinthians 3:18, 19). This “foolishness” continues in the Gospel: “Offer no re-sistance to one who is evil” (Matthew 5:39). In fact, offer the other cheek when you’ve been slapped. Hand over your coat as well as your shirt. Be like God, who sends sunshine and rain on the bad as well as the good. “So be perfect,” says Jesus, “just as your heavenly Father is perfect” (5:48).
