We promotes ecological designs and makes efforts to develop and provide eco-efficient products that
support "energy-saving", "3R design (*2)", and "management of used chemical substances" in order
to reduce the burden on the environment throughout the product's entire life cycle.
In fiscal 2015, we moved forward with the compliance with the International ENERGY STAR Program
Ver. 2.0 for image scanners, the acquisition of EPEAT, and the acquisition of the Eco Mark certification.
In the case of embedded products, we strove to achieve our target values defined in the
environmental performance index by making these products more environmentally friendly.
Main Achievements of Fiscal 2015
Producing products with top-level energy efficiency
Scanners
As planned, we complied with the "International ENERGY STAR Program Ver. 2.0" for 7 newly-developed models.
Embedded products
We defined the environmental performance indexes by ourselves, calculated them for all of our products, and achieved the goal we established.
Interactive KIOSKs
As planned, we investigated the latest energy-saving standard levels and developed a model of a product with top-level energy efficiency in fiscal 2015.
To comply with environmental labels
Scanners
As planned, we acquired certification for 4 new models that are to be expanded to North America, for EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool), an environmental evaluation system for electronic products adapted as a system for promoting green purchasing, primarily in organizations related to the American government .
As our environmentally conscious activities, such as 3R design and energy-saving functions became recognized, 5 new models received Eco Mark certification. In addition, we received the Eco Mark Award Bronze Prize in recognition for our extensive efforts in environmental activities for many years, prompt compliance with international environment standards, and our efforts to raise awareness by using Eco Mark to promote environmental consciousness.
(*2) 3R design: Design in which the concepts of "Reduce", "Reuse", and "Recycle" are taken into
consideration.

We provide environmentally conscious solutions and services that contribute to reducing the burden
on the environment from our customers' business, such as energy conservation and paperless work,
through more efficient business, reduced consumption, reduced movement, and efficient use of
space.
In fiscal 2015, in addition to developing and shipping various solutions and services, we moved
forward with customer proposals and the transmission of information.
Main Achievements of Fiscal 2015 Reducing our customers' environmental burden by expanding our environmentally conscious solutions and services
Promotion of customer proposals
・Fujitsu Environmental Contribution Solutions certification Received recognition for reducing storage space outside the company building and reducing work-hours for audits. (53.2% reduction of CO2)
・Electronic Document Solutions
・Development and shipment of environmentally conscious solutions
・ViaDocV1.0L10, BIP Smart ・DynaEye Individual Number OCR ・IPCOM EX E30L10 ・IPCOM EX E20L32 ・Scan to DocuWorks ・ScanSnap Cloud
Promotion of transmitting information
・Participation at events We exhibited the ScanSnap iX100 and iX500 at the "17th Eco-Products 2015 Exhibition", introducing their use in paperless work.
Main Effects of Reducing the Burden on the Environment by Using Electronic Document Solutions PFU's electronic document solutions support the Electronic Document Act (Electronic Books
Maintenance Act), and achieve extensive business efficiency by digitizing national tax documents. The
digitization of national tax documents (paper vouchers) reduces the burden on the environment and
contributes to global warming countermeasures.
With the enactment of the Electronic Document Act taking place in April 2005, PFU worked to incorporate
electronic billing and was reviewed by national tax authorities as the first company in Japan (*) to take such
steps. Based on our in-house efforts, in 2015 we started providing our electronic document knowhow as
"Electronic Document Solutions". (* based on an in-house study)

Using E-mail Notification from
Digital Thermo-Hygrometers for
Efficient Control
Using a Document Management System to
Reduce the Volume of Data Transmission
To provide eco-efficient products, we established "PFU Group Green Procurement Direction", which
specifies basic requirements for our suppliers, and we promote environmental activities together with
our suppliers.
In fiscal 2015, we promoted efforts for CO2 emission control for our applicable suppliers, and
confirmed that each company achieved our standard level for green procurement.
Main Achievements of Fiscal 2015
Promotion of procurement from suppliers that work aggressively in consideration of the environment.
Maintained 100% of suppliers working to control CO2 emissions. (5 new companies + 82 existing companies = 87 companies: 100%)
For in-house business, we are engaged in environmental activities such as paperless work, saving
energy, and reducing CO2 used for transportation, through changes in the way we work such as using
information technology to enhance business efficiency. Activities for enhancements are shared as
Idea Snap Activities (in-company improvement activities). To promote spreading the activities
throughout the company, examples are regularly introduced. Examples of Improvements in Fiscal 2015
・Using a Document Management System to Change the Way We Work in Meetings
Until now, it was common that materials for in-house meetings
were collected/distributed via e-mail. As part of our efforts to
change the way we work in our company, we used a document
management system to manage the registration and viewing of
such materials on company servers, resulting in a reduction in
the volume of data transmission and the work-hours for
collecting/distributing mater ials.
・Using Digital Thermo-Hygrometers to Improve the Efficiency of Temperature/Humidity Control It is necessary to keep temperature and humidity constant in
areas where electronic parts are stored and manufactured in the
plants. Previously, we used thermo-hygrometers that used special
paper and ink, which required paper replacement. In addition, a
time lag occurred when an error was detected.
By switching to digital thermo-hygrometers that allow wireless and
centralized control in all work areas, paper replacement is no
longer required and automated alarms provide a prompt response
to errors.

To prevent global warming, we engage in energy-saving and power-saving activities to reduce the
amount of energy consumption.
In fiscal 2015, we improved the office environment at our Headquarters, and made efforts to reduce
energy consumption such as switching to 100% LED lighting.
We also made efforts such as installing heat-shielding sheets in summer and installing inner walls in the
truck yard in winter, where there is a lot of in/out traffic, to enhance the efficiency of air conditioning at the
ProDeS Center.

the Yokohama headquarters), converted into crude oil (kL)
Results of Power-Saving Activities
Our two sites set voluntary targets for peak power and amount of power used in summer. The ProDeS
Center was unable to achieve its target for peak power due to an increase in production volume.
However, the Headquarters achieved its targets for both peak power and amount of power used. ✔: Target Achieved X: Target Unachieved

Examples of Energy-Saving and Power-Saving Activities
・Installing Heat-Shielding Sheets and "Green Curtains"
By controlling the effects of solar radiation in summer, the efficiency of air conditioning was
enhanced.
- Heat-shielding sheets were installed on the south side of the Headquarters.
- "Green Curtains" were installed at the Headquarters and the ProDeS Center.
・Reducing Power Consumption of Office Lighting
We improved the office environment at our Headquarters, and
greatly reduced power consumed for office lighting by switching to
100% LED lighting. We expect the reduction in heat from fluorescent
lights to lead to a reduction in air conditioning usage.
・Reducing Load on Air Conditioning at Plants
At the ProDeS Center, we installed rockwool thermal insulation
materials as inner walls at the truck yard, which greatly enhances the
walls against external temperature. This heat shielding reduced air
conditioning usage.

・Local production for local consumption and recycling of food waste in the company cafeteria
Every year since October 1999, we have produced
vegetables at a company-owned farm (Eco-farm) on
land owned by the company. The vegetables from
this farm are provided in the company cafeteria on a
menu of locally produced food. Kitchen waste from
the cafeteria is converted into compost that is used
on the farm, allowing us to build and maintain a
system for recycling food.
