TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Abraham bargains with God to spare the city (Genesis 18:20‐32). Psalm — Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me (Psalm 138). Second Reading — Buried with Christ in baptism, we were also raised with him; all our transgressions are forgiven (Colossians 2:12‐14). Gospel — Jesus speaks of God’s sure response to those who pray (Luke 11:1‐13).

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION St. Paul advised us to pray constantly. In Today’s Gospel, Jesus in effect tells us the same thing. It is difficult for us to underestimate the power of prayer. An active and consistent prayer life is a key factor in being a good steward.
St. Teresa of Avila had this to say about prayer: “The most potent and acceptable prayer is the prayer that leaves the best effects. I do not mean it must immediately fill the soul with desire… The best effects are those which are followed by actions…when the soul not only desires the honor of God, but really strives for it.”
Her point is that prayer requires action. That is the same conclusion we might draw about stewardship as a way of life. Adding the phrase “as a way of life” implies that it is more than an attitude. It is something that should fill every moment of every day for us.
That is what Jesus is trying to communicate to us — that we must be consistent and persevere in prayer. Our lives should reflect our ongoing prayer. You might say how we live our lives is a living prayer. That is what the Lord wants from us. As the Lord advises us, “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

REFLECIÓN DOMINICAL St. Paul nos aconsejó orar constantemente. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús, en efecto, nos dice la misma cosa. Es difícil para nosotros subestimamos el poder de la oración. Una vida de oración activa y constante es un factor clave para ser un buen administrador.
Santa Teresa de Jesús tenía esto que decir acerca de la oración: "La oración más potente y aceptable es la oración que sale de los mejores efectos. No me refiero a que debe llenar de inmediato el alma de deseo ... Los mejores efectos son aquellos que son seguidos por acciones ... cuando el alma no sólo desea el honor de Dios, pero en realidad se esfuerza por ello. "
Su punto es que la oración requiere una acción. Esa es la misma conclusión a la que podríamos llamar acerca de la corresponsabilidad como una forma de vida. La adición de la frase "como una forma de vida" implica que es más que una actitud. Es algo que debe llenar cada momento de cada día para nosotros.
Eso es lo que Jesús está tratando de comunicarse con nosotros ‐ que hay que ser constante y perseverar en la oración.Nuestras vidas deben reflejar nuestra oración continua. Se podría decir que la forma en que vivimos nuestras vidas es una oración de estar. Eso es lo que el Señor quiere de nosotros. A medida que el Señor nos aconseja: "Pidan y recibirán; Busca y encontraras; llamad, y se os abrirá para usted ".

Prayer Ministry What’s Prayer Ministry ? God loves us and knows our deepest needs even before we ask. His plan for meeting those needs is perfect. Remember that the team begins by praying in tongues (a prayer language) in order to be receptive listeners as they seek the Lord's guidance. (It is not necessary that you mention any requests until later in the prayer time). During this initial time, the Holy Spirit will in many cases give the team a specific image, inspired word or Scripture passage that is relevant to your present situation. A few minutes later, they will ask you: “Is there anything else you want prayer for that we did not cover?” When the prayer time ends, all will pray together: “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

On August 12 & 13, the Academy of Our Lady of Peace will host its first annual Alumnae Reunion Weekend, including two days of reunion events for OLP graduates of all class years. All alumnae are encouraged to come back to campus to celebrate, to reminisce, and to see what’s new at their beloved alma mater. Because Christ himself is present in the sacrament of the altar, he is to be honored with the worship of adoration. “To visit the Blessed Sacrament is…a proof of gratitude, an expression of love, and duty of adoration toward Christ our Lord” (Paul VI, MF66). We all need help at one time or other in our lives. We at St. James Mental Health Ministry, through our pray‐er and support group, all will have the opportunities to talk, to share and to grow closer to our friend, Jesus. To trust and wait for God’s plans to unfold. Come share, pray and support families who have a love one with a brain disorder. Spend time with people who understand mental illness. St. James is a place of sup‐port and community. Come to the family prayer and support group at St. James.

St. James—St. Leo Catholic Community is under the pastoral care of the Eudist Fathers, or Congregation of Jesus and Mary. We owe our name to Saint John Eudes who founded the Congregation in France in 1643. The Eudists currently operate in 15 countries, most of which are in the developing world. Evangelization, mainly with the poor and the youth, is our primary purpose, as well as formation to ministry in the

You probably have heard “We want everyone’s picture in our new directory” We really mean “I WANT YOU”. Photography ended July 2nd but then we received calls from people that wanted to be included. Do to popular demand you will have another opportunity to be photographed. Photography will take place in our parish hall August 2 to 7.

KEEP PRAYING St. Monica, whose feast we celebrate in August, is often known as “the persistent mother.” She watched her oldest son, Augustine, turn his back on his Christian faith. Monica was exasperated. For years she gave up talking directly to her son on the advice of a local bishop, who told her that it was better to talk to God about Augustine then to Augustine about God. The mother never gave up praying for her son. Eventually Augustine gave up his wild ways, was baptized, and later ordained and named bishop of Hippo. St. Augustine went on to become one of the Church’s greatest scholars. Today’s readings address the importance of persistent prayer. Abraham, in spite of trepidation that he is bothering the Lord, continues to ask about the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah. Jesus, in Luke’s Gospel, tells his disci‐ples to “ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Luke 11:9). This is our charge: keep praying.
