Light Moments – Comical theory of Life’s stages On the first day God created the Dog and said “Sit all day at the door and bark at anyone you see and I will give you a life span of 20 years.” The Dog says that is too long to bark so please take back 10 years. This was done

On the second day God created the Monkey and said “Entertain people, do tricks and make them laugh. I give you 20 years.” The Monkey says 20 years is too long, like the dog I give back 10 years and only take 10 years.

On the third day God created the Cow and said “You must go the field with the farmer, work hard, have calves and give milk to support the farmer’s family. I give you a life span of 60 years.” The Cow said that is too much hard work for 60 years so I shall keep 20 years and give you back 40 years. God agreed

On the fourth day God created humans and said” Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. I give you a life span of 20 years “. But the Human said “Only 20 years, that is bad. Give me my 20 years, the 40 years the cow gave back, the 10 years the monkey gave back and also the 10 years the dog gave back, which will make it 80 years Okay”. Okay said God, you have asked for it so be it ….

That is why for the first 20 years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next 40 years we work like slaves to support our family. The following 10 years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren and for the last 10 years we sit on the front porch of the house and bark at everyone ….

Poveglia, Italy - Around the turn of the 18th century, this tiny island

in the Venetian lagoon served a simple purpose: It was a place for

plague victims to come to die. Later, Napoleon used the island to

store weapons, and in the 1920s, a mental hospital opened its doors

for about 40 years. Local lore has it that one of the doctors butchered

patients mercilessly before dying in a fall from the hospital's bell

tower. While a destination with such a gruesome history might

appeal to some, the island and its ruins remain closed to visitors.

North Brother Island, New York - It's hard to believe anything is

out of reach of New York City's relentless crowds, but North

Brother Island sits isolated in the East River. The island

quarantined patients with dangerous illnesses starting in the

1880s, later, it became a soldiers hospital and a drug treatment

facility but fell into disrepair beginning in the 1960s. Today it's a

bird sanctuary that attracts herons, gulls, egrets, and other birds

who come to nest in solitude.
