In 2015 The West Australian Government approached Seven West Media to present their major infrastructure projects, collectively known as ‘The Bigger Picture’, in a fresh, unique and engaging way to the public.

We proposed ‘virtual tours’ to the public, offering guided tours of a fully functional venue, long before construction was actually complete.

The concept was accepted and subsequently, the travelling ‘BIGPIC360’ bus was rolled out. The bus was equipped with two Virtual Reality stations giving members of the public access to these virtual reality tours of the venues.

The project was a great success. We delivered three significant virtual reality products over a nine month period through multiple activations at major public events such as Telethon and the Hopman Cup.

Developing these VR products, required;

• Converting 3D models from assorted commercial modelling applications into usable assets for a VR experience

• Creating a storyboard from the assets to deliver key messages as determined by the client

• Applying materials, dressing the scenes and blueprint functions to deliver the content and carry the user through the experience

• Recording and implementing audio (with narration from public figures Dennis Cometti and Susanna Carr), highlighting touch points provided by the client

• A close working relationship with the client to assist understanding the technology and delivering to expectations.

THE VENUES

Perth Children’s Hospital

Perth Children’s Hospital is a $1.2 billion investment, and will replace Princess Margaret Hospital as the State’s dedicated children’s hospital.

With a tight budget, we delivered this VR experience from the original concept through to activation at Perth’s Telethon Weekend.

It was highlighted as a feature segment.

Optus Stadium

Optus stadium (then, Perth Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium which was under construction at the time, and is now the third-largest stadium in Australia.

On a limited budget, We delivered a virtual tour of this project, highlighting football, cricket and concert activities, as well as showcasing the surrounds.

This VR stadium tour was a huge hit when activated at major sports events.

Yagan Square

At just over one hectare in size, Yagan Square is a major public space forming part of the Perth City Link project, and was the final ‘Bigger Picture’ project.

Featuring animated people, traffic and multiple angles, this project required a vast amount of optimisation to get a successful 75fps (for DK2 delivery).
