Off to Straw Bay Railway Station. “Wake up, Dick, wake up” cried Julia. “It’s the first day of our
summer vacation. Tom, wake up and all of you get ready. We have
to go to Straw Bay railway station to pick up John, Lucy, David
and Tommy. Come on, let’s go!”
They all went to the station and were very excited as their cousins
were going to arrive. But as they reached the station they were
quite surprised to see that there was neither a train nor any
passengers on the platform.
They sadly went back to their own house but suddenly they heard
shouts of a loud ‘Surprise’. They were surprised to see their
cousins John, Lucy, David and Tommy who then explained to
them that their train’s engine had stopped working at Gingred’s
railway station and they had to come all the way in a Horse‐drawn
cart.
They all were too happy and all of them sat together for breakfast
and ate
Ginger
‐ bread,
lemonade,
soda
among
other
things.

Jack becomes a friend The next morning, all of them woke up, got ready and went to Mr.
Pollo and Mrs. Polly’s house who were their neighbors. In their
house there lived a boy named Jack who was an orphan. Mr. Pollo
and Mrs. Polly were his Uncle and Aunt and he lived with them.
His Uncle and Aunt behaved very rudely with Jack. They sent him to
work. But before Jack’s parents died they kept all their property on
Jack’s name. They also kept a huge castle on his name.
The children talked to Jack’s Uncle and Aunt for a while and then
came downstairs to go back to their own house. At that time they saw
Jack doing some work in the garden.
Dick questioned Jack, “What are you doing?” Jack answered, “Can’t
you see I am cleaning up the mess from the garden?” Dick asked
Jack, “If you don’t mind, can you tell me what your hobby is?” Jack
said, “My hobby is swimming.”
Lucy said,
“Wow,
swimming!
If
you
are
interested
then
you
can
come swimming with us at 8 O’clock tomorrow. Tom asked Jack,
“Can we all be friends?”
Jack thought for a moment and then said,” Well, I will be your friend
but only if you behave nicely with me.”

Something strange They all went back home. The next day they called Jack for going to
the beach for swimming. Everyone went there happily.
All of them loved swimming and they swam for half an hour in the
cool and refreshing water. After changing their wet clothes, they sat
on the beach, their legs in the water.
Suddenly, one of the cousins, David, saw something strange far away
the beach, something huge and tall. They asked Jack if he knew what
it was.
Jack knew what that was, but he did not tell any of his friends. The
truth was that it was the castle his parents left for him, and if he told
them then it would no longer be a secret.
Suddenly, Lucy’s eyes shone bright and she jumped up shouting,
“David, Jack, Tom, Dick, it’s… it’s an adventure. I can feel that and it
is pulling all of us towards it.” “WOOF” said Tommy, Lucy’s dog.
John said, “What nonsense! It’s not an adventure; it’s just a stupid,
silly, old castle.”
David said, “Leave it. It’s almost 11 and we have to go back to our
house otherwise mother Lucida and father Malhem will not allow us
to enter the house.” “Yes, yes, be quick, otherwise aunty will not give
us the lunch also. Be quick guys, be quick,” said John.
They ran and went back to their house. They all filled their tummies
with delicious food which their mother had prepared for them.

Visit to the Evergreen Island Castle
Soon it was the time for the children to go to sleep. It was nearly 10 at
night. They all slept. At about 12 at night a strong wind blew and the
window near which Lucy was sleeping started banging. She woke up
and suddenly saw a light blinking in one of the rooms of the castle.
But she thought that she was dreaming and went to sleep again.
In the morning they all got ready and were sitting on the table for
breakfast when Lucy told all of them what she saw at the previous
night. But no one believed her.
They all went to see Jack to tell him what Lucy saw. But Jack also
didn’t believe her. Then all the children decided that they would not
sleep the entire night that day and if they saw any light in the castle,
Tom would say a loud ‘ MEOW’ so that Jack could hear it. All of
them agreed.
That night when it was the children’s time to sleep, no one slept.
Everyone kept waiting to see the light and suddenly Dick said, “Look
everyone look,
the
light.”
All
of
them
were
greatly
surprised.
Tom said, ‘MEOW’ loudly so that Jack could hear it. Hearing this
Jack came to the main gate of his friends’ house.
Tom, Dick and everyone else went downstairs very softly as their
parents were sleeping. They opened the door slowly because if their
parents woke up they would definitely be in trouble.
The children went to the castle in a boat. At the entrance of the castle
there were many rocks. When they reached the castle they heard the
voices of two men and saw them holding guns.

They stood near the wall very silently to what was going on inside
the room. Suddenly one of the men threw a piece of paper on the
floor, but none of the children paid any attention to it.
Suddenly Julia,
who
was
wearing
high
heels,
stepped
on
David’s
leg
and he shouted, ‘OUCH’. Hearing the sound, both men started
looking around to see where the noise came from.
By that time all the children hid near a broken wooden door. As the
men went away the children ran out through the castle and sat on the
boat. While they were sitting in the boat everyone shouted at Julia
that because of her they were in a great trouble.
David said to Julia, “You stupid girl, can’t you take care?” Due to this
Julia started crying. When they reached their house they slowly went
to their rooms and slept peacefully.

Something Awful
The next day, they took permission from their Uncle and Aunt to go
to the castle. Their uncle and aunt agreed.
They went into the castle and suddenly something crushed under
Jack’s leg. Listening to this, everyone started looking around to see
where the noise came from. Lucy grabbed a paper from the ground
and unfolded it.
All the children were surprised to see a map and in the map they
found the word ‘GOLD’ written. David kept that paper safely in his
pocket and all of them went to their house and brought many things
like rope, cake, orange squash, etc.
They went in each and every room to explore the things through
which they could find gold. That’s when they found a half – broken
ladder. But, John was an expert in climbing. He took a rope and
climbed up. Then he threw the rope down and one by one all the
children went up climbing.

A strange Door There was a door with ‘PASSWORD’ written on it. Jack’s mother and
father had kept a password so that no one else could steal the
treasure boxes. When the children saw that door, Dick said to Tom,
“Tom, what shall we do now? It is a very strange door. If we want to
go inside, we have to give the password, otherwise we can’t get in.”
Tom had an idea. He said, “Let us type the name of Jack’s parents. If
the door won’t open, then we’ll know that it’s not the password.”
They gave the password but the door didn’t open.
Then, Dick had a brilliant idea. He said, “Let us type the first letters
of our names.” Julian said, “Yes, that is a good idea because Jack’s
father, Mr. Jacuroy, and his mother, Mrs. Jenny, knew all of us very
well because we have lived here since our childhood.”
So, all of them along with Tommy, the dog typed the first letters of
their names in the password column. John was standing with his
hand on the door and suddenly the door started vibrating and it
opened. But
as
it
opened
John
fell
down.
Lucy laughed, “HA! HA! HA!” All of them excitedly went inside the
room and they found a big round door. It was nothing but a tunnel
leading to some another room.

Big surprise The children, and Tommy, started looking for the key to open the
tunnel door. Suddenly Tommy barked “WOOF, WOOF” near a
window.
Hearing this, Lucy went near to Tommy to try to understand what he
was trying to indicate to. And, at that time Lucy saw a rusted key
lying at the window pane.
She called everybody and Lucy excitedly opened the door. In
excitement they just forgot the key there only. One by one all of them
went sliding down into the tunnel.
When they reached there, once again they found a room. Tom was
surprised to see treasure boxes. And as he went near to open it, many
swords came in front of him.
On them, it was written:
NOTE
“If you want to take the boxes away, you just have to play a simple
game of chess.’’
Tom shouted, “Dick, Jack, Lucy, David, and Julia, all of you come
here and read what is written.
Julia said, “Wow, chess!” As Julia was an expert at playing chess,
everyone forced
her
to
play.
At last, she agreed. She played chess and won too. They got the
treasure boxes but didn’t have the key to open them. It was hidden
somewhere.

They went out of the room and through the ladder but kept the rope
and key of the tunnel there only.
The children went into the room which was downstairs and were
surprised to
see
that
there
was
not
a thing
which
they
saw
before.
Suddenly Tom noticed a diary, which the men might have forgotten
to take with them, and on it was written:
Mr. Bunking and Mr. Buskins
Farmyard Cottage, House no. 35
Opp. Wonderland Bakery shop.
Excitedly, they all went back through the boat to their house.

Visit to Farmyard Cottage
The children asked Mrs. Lucida why she was preparing different
delicacies and packing them in their father’s bag.
Their father came downstairs and told the children that he was going
to Farmyard Cottage for 3 days to meet his friend.
Hearing this, Julia’s mouth dropped open, because that was the place
where those two men lived.
Looking at Julia, her father asked her, “What’s the matter? Why are
you standing
like
this?”
Julia replied, “I was surprised to hear such a name and I have never
been there so can we please come with you?”
All of them shouted, “Please, can we come with you?” And their
father agreed.
The children
quickly
packed
their
bags
and
got
ready
to
move.
Tommy was also ready to move.
They said goodbye to their mother and also to their best friend Jack
before leaving. All of them went through a car to the Mariana railway
station. After half an hour, they reached there.
They got their seats in the train and as the train started to move, the
children could
not
wait
to
reach
Farmyard
Cottage.
They saw the scenery as they passed by it. After about two hours of
traveling, they reached their destination.

All of them went through a rickshaw to Farmyard Cottage and at
house no. 34 which was Uncle Pharen’s house.
Uncle Malhem knocked at the door and the door was opened by a
tall, smart
and
well
‐ built
man.
He
warmly
welcomed
them
all.
They
helped their guests in keeping the luggage aside.
Uncle Pharen showed the children to their rooms.
In the afternoon Aunt Polina called the children and also their father
for lunch.
While eating,
Uncle
Pharen
warned
them
not
to
open
the
right
side
window of their room as there lived two thieves in the house on the
right who did not like children.
Their names were Mr. Buskins and Mr. Bunking. The children were
surprised to hear that because they directly got the answer of the
question for what they came without any problem.
A couple
of
days
passed
and
it
was
the
third
day
and
they
had
to
return back to their own house which was known as Malhem house.
Everyone packed their bags and said “Goodbye’’ to Uncle Pharen
and Aunty Polina. They went to Mariana station and sat in a train
which went to Straw Bay railway station.
Then, through a horse‐cart they reached their home. Their mother
gave them
a hearty
welcome.
David said to aunt Lucida that “Aunt Polina was a good natured
woman.”

Mother Lucida had prepared the children’s favorite dishes like
chocolate cookies, strawberry cake, chocolate cake, orange squash,
lemonade, ginger bread, strawberries and a jug of milk and in that
she had put a spoon of cold cream.
As the children were too hungry they finished up everything and
since they were too tired they went to sleep.

A Visit again to the Evergreen Castle
The next day, the children woke at 10 o’ clock in the morning as they
were too tired. They completed their daily activities and went to meet
Uncle Pollo and Aunt Polly.
Jack was very happy to see their friends after three days that had
passed as months for him. Seeing Jack, Tommy started licking his
face.
They all went to the beach for swimming in the cool water. Then,
John said, “Hey! Can’t we go to the castle to find the key of the
treasure boxes that we found last week?”
All of them agreed. They changed their clothes, took permission from
their parents and reached the castle.
One by one they climbed up through the door and entered the
password, and as the door opened they went sliding down through
the tunnel.
As they reached the tunnel, they saw the same message.
Each of them decided that they would not leave the place till they
find the key to open the treasure boxes.

An Exciting Adventure Julia started playing chess and as she was confused everyone shouted
at her, “Julia, be quicker, we want to find the key.”
Then, Julia said, “Yes don’t worry. I will do it.”
The two men, Buskins and Bunkings, then came back to the castle as
they remembered that they had forgotten their diary in the castle.
As they reached there, they were surprised to see that there was no
diary.
At that time Bunking spotted the rope and got suspicious that there
was someone else in the castle.
Both of them climbed the rope and saw that a door was open. They
entered it and went through the tunnel.
They both reached the room where the children were. David saw
them and
shouted,
“All
of
you,
look
towards
the
door!”
Everyone looked there and were frightened to see those men. Julia
had still not completed playing the game, but seeing them she ran
away to Lucy without playing the whole game.
Buskins took out a gun and told them that if they went any closer to
the boxes then he would shoot them.
The room was very dark and there was just a little amount of light
near the chess board. They were not able to see the faces of the men
clearly but could hear their voices.

Lucy sent her dog, Tommy and told him to bite those two men. He
smelled their footsteps and went to them.
As it was too dark, the two men were not able to see anything. But
the dog
could
see
them
as
his
eyes
were
too
sharp.
Tommy went near them and bit their leg. Buskins and Bunkings
shouted, ‘OUCH!’ As Tommy bit them the gun from Buskins hand
fell down and John picked it up.
John forced Julia to go and play the remaining chess. He told those
men to not dare to come in front. As they didn’t have another gun
they obeyed
him.

Treasure Boxes stolen
Julia played the remaining chess and at last she won. Then, all the
children except John, who was standing with a gun, started looking
for the key.
They checked all the drawers but they could not find it. Only the last
one remained to check.
It was something strange. There were boxes inside boxes in that
drawer and at last they got a small box.
As Lucy
opened
it,
she
found
a key
inside
it.
She
tried
to
open
the
box and found a note.
NOTE
Guess which one is the correct box from these three boxes. There is a
slight difference in one of the boxes. The remaining two boxes are the
same and the box with a difference is the right box.
They decided
to
open
the
middle
box
as
it
was
quite
different
and
as
they opened it they were surprised. Even those two men were
surprised.
All of them saw gold and silver coins, real white and blue pearls,
necklaces and big shining diamonds. At that time there came a big
spider from the top of the box. No one saw it except Buskins who
was afraid of spiders and John was afraid too.
Seeing the spider Buskins shouted, “Spider”. Hearing that, John
jumped and threw the gun away. He tried to move the spider away
and that was when Bunkings picked up the gun.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/seven-go-the-evergreen-island-castle 19/22
After sometime the spider moved away. Then Bunkings warned the
children that if they would move or touch the box he would kill
Tommy, Lucy’s dog.
Hearing that,
Lucy
said,
“Please
don’t
kill
my
dog.”
Then
Buskins
said, “If you don’t want your dog to be killed then give that key and
the box to us.”
Lucy said to others, “Please give that key and box to them. I don’t
want my dog to be killed.”
Everyone agreed and gave that key and the box to those thieves. As,
the thieves
went
out
they
closed
the
nut
– bolt
of
the
door
and
went
away.

Happy ending The children started screaming for help. But no help came.
Suddenly, Tom noticed a big stone and he threw it right over the nut
– bolt with a force, and it opened.
Everyone ran fast to go to call the police. They hurried down through
the rope. As, they went down to the entrance of the castle Tom saw
Bunkings and he pushed him right on his leg and he fell down,
‘THUD’.
The thieves sat in a boat with the treasure box and went to an oak
tree as they heard the noise of a police car. The oak tree was right
beside the children’s house.
Jack knew a shortcut to his house and they took that way. So they
reached there before those thieves and they phoned the police and
they came right to Mrs. Lucida’s house.
The children
took
the
police
to
the
oak
tree
from
the
back
door
of
the
house as they saw the thieves from the window of their house.
The police went silently to them and arrested them. The assistant of
the police threw those thieves in his car and locked the door.
The police thanked the little children because those thieves were too
dangerous and they were trying to catch them from many years.
But each time they escaped. The police gave them a reward of Rs.
6000 because they helped them in catching the thieves.
He also gave them a reward of Rs. 600 for their bravery. The head of
the children’s society gave them an award because they saved them

from those thieves. All the children divided the money between
themselves.
Mr. Pollo and Mrs. Polly were too happy to know that their children
performed such
a brave
act.
Jack’s Uncle and Aunt started behaving nicely with him as they
understood what their mistake was.
At night all the children were too happy and they all slept thinking
about their adventure.
The next
morning
Aunt
Lucida
packed
John,
Lucy
and
David’s
bag
and lunch.
Julia, Tom, Jack and Dick were too sad as John, Lucy and David, and
Tommy were going back to their house as the school was reopening
the next day.
They went to the station and as their cousins sat in the train they said,
‘GOODBYE’ and
the
train
started
to
move.
Everyone was so sad but they thought that they might have an
adventure in the next summer vacation.
