Setting up blogs and wikis
Fall 2009
• Go to www.blogger.com• Click on the button that says “Create blog now.”• Enter email (must be active; something you use; it
cannot be your parents’ email)– The great thing about this is that you only have to set
this up once; this could be something that you use all four years here, never needing to set up another blog.• Password must be 8 characters. • In calendar, write down password. • Unclick where is says to get newsletters. • Display name: must be first name last initial. Cannot be
anything else. Mine is kackerman. Mr. Booth’s would be rbooth.
• Click the button that says “Accepts the terms of service” and click continue.
• In calendar, write down display name.
Personal Blog • Create a personal blog title; mine would be
– “K Ackerman’s Blog” • Your URL must be appropriate and it cannot have both of your
full name’s in it– Check availability – Write down your personal blog title and the URL
• Click continue• Choose template.• “Create blog”—click. • Want to blog now?
– Click on dashboard• Go to our class blog
– We’ll talk about how to make a comment. – Always use proper spelling, grammar, language, etc.
Personal Wikispace• Go to www.wikispaces.com • Click on “create your classroom wiki now”• Scroll down to “Join now”• Fill out “Username,” “Password,” and “Email
address”– I recommend using the same usernames and password as with
your blogger
• For #5, wiki domain name, I recommend “First initial, last name’s wiki”; mine would be kackermanwiki– Record in your wiki domain name and your wiki URL in your
calendar.
• For #6, wiki permissions, choose “Protected”• For #7, click “I certify this is for educational purposes”
• Click “Manage Wiki”• Under “Settings,” click “Look and Feel”– You can change color and choose a new logo here.– On the right, click “Home”
• Click “Edit”• You should type a welcome message on this
page, which includes a note about being created for your English 9 class.
• Click “Save” after you’ve finished typing.
