Seton Chinese Mandarin Classes Recognized at Art Exhibition Opening
Chinese Mandarin classes at Seton Catholic Prep were recognized at the Taiwan Exhibition Grand
Opening Ceremony featuring five Taiwan master artists sponsored by Commissioner Lin Ling Lee and the
Phoenix Sister Cities Taipei Sister Cities Committee in celebration of Phoenix, Arizona, and Taipei Taiwan’s
38-year relationship with the city and state, in honor of Arizona 105 years statehood, and in promoting
international arts and culture awareness, diversity and exchange.
The event was attended by city and state officials led by Secretary of State Michele Reagan and
Senator John Kavanagh, Fountain Hill Mayor Linda Kavanagh and members of the Valley’s Taiwanese
American community leaders, as well as Seton Principal Pat Collins, Assistant Principal Dr. David Sorkin,
World Department Chair Robin Noudali and Wen Chyi Chiu of the World Languages faculty. Chiu teaches
Chinese Mandarin classes whose students were recognized as global cultural ambassadors.
The event also honored Seton students who participated in an art contest sponsored by the Taiwan
Overseas Community Affairs Council Advisor, Taiwan Art Exhibition Coordinator and Phoenix Office of Arts
and Culture Commissioner Lin Ling Lee:

Academic Decathlon: National Competition Results
Congratulations to our Academic Decathlon team who competed in the National Academic Decathlon
competition. In the national tournament, Seton’s AcDec Team finished 4th place! Among all competing schools
large and small, Seton finished 10th in the country! Special congratulations to Luke Bastian for receiving a
bronze medal in Literature and Robert Buessing who received two bronze medals, one for Essay and one for
Economics. Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon team members: Honors – Luke Bastian, Diep Tran,
and Kayla Charles; Scholastics – Robert Buessing, Alan Griffieth, and Brian Friedhof; and Varsity – Jacob
