Introduction
4/22
After marketing, the sales for this model decreased.
Main argued reason: Extremely high temperature
perceived at touch.
The solution developer HAIER and the assembling
plant GEDEME requested directly to LACETEL to carry
out several tests in order to detect possible failures and
propose a solution.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT TELECOMMUNICATIONS INSTITUTE
Purposes
5/22
To evaluate the STB performance under different
conditions.
To identify the possible causes of extremely high
temperature perceived at touch.

Conclusions (I)
The temperature protection of Switch STI9712 is
activated for short circuit condition.
When Switch STI9712 is enabled in short circuit condition
causes an increase of 1.4 °C inside a temperature
chamber.
The temperature of Switch STI9712 increases in 40.6 °C
when it is enabled in short circuit condition.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT TELECOMMUNICATIONS INSTITUTE
Conclusions (I)
The temperature of a metallic USB device connected to
the STB USB port increases 6.2 °C when Switch
STI9712 is enabled in short circuit condition.
The temperature of RF connector increases 1.1 °C when
Switch STI9712 is enabled in short circuit condition.
When Switch STI9712 is disabled the components
temperature is similar the same components in other
STB models.
20/22
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT TELECOMMUNICATIONS INSTITUTE
Conclusions (I)
SoC MSD7831 is the component with highest
temperature when Switch STI9712 is disabled.
21/22
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT TELECOMMUNICATIONS INSTITUTE
Recommendations
To include on the OSD of this STB, the option to
disable/enable the Switch STI9712 output and by default
the 5 V must be disabled.
