Off Page Ranking

Off page ranking factors is synonymous with the term: backlinks or links

To rank highly in Google you NEED lots of quality links. (i.e. you need other websites linking to your website)

You can rank highly in Google for a keyword and not even have that word anywhere on your web page, IF your off page optimization is good.

A good example of this is looking up the word, “Click Here” on Google and then seeing how adobe’s PDF reader page is ranked highly and the word “Click Here” is nowhere on the web page.

Off Page Ranking

If your domain name is the keyword itself, you’re going to instantly get an advantage in Google. (i.e. your keyword is gift baskets, and you own giftbaskets.com)

Use the Yahoo Site Explorer to get a list of any website’s backlinks (i.e. a list of sites linking to whatever website you input). You can visit the Yahoo site explorer using the following link:

http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com

Activity: Off Page Ranking

Open up a spreadsheet and create the following columns:

Website Outbound Links Inbound Links Page Rank IP Address Anchor Text Page Title Website Age.

Page 8: Session Website Traffic. Topic Outline Off Page Ranking RSS Feeds Posting Comments Authority Backlinks Article Syndication

Off Page Ranking Columns

Website: The websites linking to whatever

website you are analyzing (i.e. the website URL you input into the Yahoo Site Explorer)

Outbound Links: The total number of links located on

each page listed in the Yahoo Site Explorer. The fewer the links on these pages, the more a link from that page will help you.

Page 9: Session Website Traffic. Topic Outline Off Page Ranking RSS Feeds Posting Comments Authority Backlinks Article Syndication

Off Page Ranking Columns

Inbound Links: The total number of links pointing to

each of the pages listed in the Yahoo Site Explorer. You get this number by entering each website back into the Site Explorer. Higher the better.

Page Rank: The Google page rank of each page

listed in the Yahoo Site Explorer. Page Rank 1 and up websites are best; however, don’t disregard PR0 websites as though will still help your ranking.

Off Page Ranking Columns

IP Address: The IP Address of each page listed in

the Yahoo Site Explorer. You can get this by visiting http://www.who.is and inputting the domain name. The more links you can get from unique IP addresses, the better.

Off Page Ranking Columns

Anchor Text: The actual link text located on each

page listed in the Yahoo Site Explorer, that links back to the original website you’re analyzing. (i.e. Somewhere on each of these pages is a link to the original website you’re analyzing. You should visit each page and look for the link on the page. Then record what the actual link text says). You should use the keyword you want to rank well for in the anchor text of your links.

Off Page Ranking Columns

Page Title: The title of the web page for each page

listed in the Yahoo Site Explorer. It’s good to have your main keyword in the title of each page linking to you. A helpful tip is if you own some of the sites linking to you, change the page title of those sites to match the keyword you’re trying to rank for.

Off Page Ranking Columns

Website Age: The age of each page listed in the

Yahoo Site Explorer. Links from old websites are extremely powerful and will boost your ranking. A link from a 5 year old site will likely help you more than a brand new site with a high Page Rank only. In my opinion Age is more important, so look for links from old websites.

Off Page Ranking

You should go through all of the websites listed in the Yahoo Site Explorer and take time to fill out each column. This will take a long time if you’re not using tools to help speed up the process.

Try the SEO Elite software tool to speed this process up so it takes 3 minutes instead of 3 hours.

Anchor Link Text

You shouldn’t use the exact same anchor/link text in every link that you get from other websites. The reason is because it does not look natural. Google wants things to look natural. So, to make things look more natural to Google, you should vary up your anchor text.

Get some links containing: gift baskets, Christmas gift baskets, Buy

Christmas Gift Baskets. Get some links containing

http://www.YourWebsite.com as the anchor text. Vary it up A LOT.

Article Syndication

A typical link building strategy directory submission, article submission, and 3-way linking.

Regular Article Submission IS definitely worth doing; however, a better way to go about writing and submitting articles is to use Article Syndication.

Article Syndication is where you write an article, submit it to a synidication website (ie SEOLinkVine.com) that would then “syndicate” (i.e. put) your article onto thousands of blogs across the internet.

Page 20: Session Website Traffic. Topic Outline Off Page Ranking RSS Feeds Posting Comments Authority Backlinks Article Syndication

Article Syndication Article Syndication is the best form of linking because you: Are getting links from multiple websites related to the

content of your article Can control the exact text surrounding your link and can

place 3 links to your website within the actual content of each article. Not just 1 link in the footer of your article.

It is 100% undetectable by Google because it facilitates the natural process between people that own websites and want content, with the people that don’t mind writing the content in return for links to their websites.

Page 21: Session Website Traffic. Topic Outline Off Page Ranking RSS Feeds Posting Comments Authority Backlinks Article Syndication

Article Syndication

Instead of writing articles and submitting them to the same article directory hundreds of times (in which case you’d get 100 links all from the same website; ezinearticles.com), you’re submitting the articles to a syndication website which allows you to insert 3 links per article, and then it syndicates your article to DIFFERENT blogs across the internet. So you’re getting links from different IP Addresses… and you learned in a previous lesson the importance of getting links from difference IP Addresses.

Forum Profile Linking

Get mass links through forum profile linking. Find forums across the internet and create an account with them. They don’t need to be related to your website’s content. After you create an account, add a link to your website within your forum profile. Use your main keyword phrase as the anchor/link text that you use to point to your site.

This can be somewhat time-consuming, but works really well. Think about using a software program to help automate this process and save you hours of time, ie Nuclear Link Blaster, however it’s pretty “techy”.

Link Building Programs

Get mass links also through blog networks that build backlinks to your backlinks.

A good program for this is: www.linkpipeline.com

RSS Feeds RSS is a type of language that formats your

website content in a standard way so that RSS readers can understand your content. When you go to a blog or any number of other sites you'll often see an orange block in the address bar, or somewhere else on the page. That's the RSS icon. If you click on this it will bring up the RSS feed.

Where it's useful for us is that a lot of these "web 2.0" sites allow you to both create RSS feeds and add content to their networks using RSS feeds. They translate your feed into standard HTML so that it can be published as content on a website.

Page 26: Session Website Traffic. Topic Outline Off Page Ranking RSS Feeds Posting Comments Authority Backlinks Article Syndication

RSS Feeds Every time you post a new article on a site

that has an RSS feed it will automatically update the RSS feed and consequently any site that is using that RSS feed, so by updating one site you can effectively be updating many. Not only that, but each update will also provide a link back to the original source for the RSS feed. You can essentially build a chain or network of sites and links that ends up pointing back to your main website, and thereby explode your traffic through the backlinks.

Page 27: Session Website Traffic. Topic Outline Off Page Ranking RSS Feeds Posting Comments Authority Backlinks Article Syndication

RSS Feeds The way to do it is to take a systematic

approach. Take a good, high-quality article that links to your main affiliate site on your important keywords, then go to (for example) Blogger and build yourself a great Blog on this site. Your article should also focus on your keywords. Blogger will create an RSS feed using this content.

Repeat the process using different websites linking back to your original affiliate product website.

Use different sites and mix things up to see what works best.

RSS Feeds Some good sites to use are:

hubpages.com Squidoo.com tumblr.com blogger.com xanga.com pulse.yahoo.com wordpress.com (VERY wary of anything that looks commercial) zimbio.com feedbite.com bumpzee.com twitter.com (for getting your new sites, posts, comments etc

indexed in Google) ping.in (for pinging your new content).

Posting Comments Get links by commenting on blog owner’s blog posts. DO

NOT spam. Make comments directly related to the blog post that would add to the discussion. Then throw in a link to your website in the “name” field.

Get links by adding a signature to your forum posts. If you’re not a member to a forum related to your niche, become a member. Them become active in the forum. The more posts you make to the forum, the more links you’ll get. A forum signature is simply the text that’s located at the bottom of every single forum post you made. You can edit your forum signature within the edit profile screen of most all forums.
