• These are the main characters from the first half of Acts

• The GE are “framed” by Jesus’ brothers

• As the first book, James is influential in setting the message of the group (he gets out the Legos)

• With James, the GE may then be generally letters about persevering through sin, suffering, and serpents by living faith unto the goal: salvation

• Suffering will be the norm

• Christ will be the model

• Faith will be what is practiced

• Salvation will be the hope that keeps you going

• Concerning the “test cases” in 3.1-7:

Life in exile means living with personal hostile oppressors, like a wife with an unbelieving husband, whose redemption should be sought not by persuasion with words but by illustration with deeds the character of the innocent suffering Savior.

Life in exile means living with the more vulnerable and exploitable, like a husband with a wife, whose knowledgable conduct should honor the feminine one as the Shepherd who sacrificed Himself for His sheep.
